CHARLES “SONNY” WRIGHT, AGE 70 OF HARRIMAN PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY MARCH 13, 2002 AT ROANE MEDICAL CENTER. HE WAS OF THE BAPTIST FAITH. RETIRED FROM THE POST OFFICE IN SEVERNA PARK, MARYLAND. SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY PARENTS CHARLES & MAGGIE WRIGHT, BROTHERS, ROBERT, KENNETH, & HORACE WRIGHT, SISTERS, RUBY SCRUGGS & GENEVA JARNAGIN. JAMES TETO AGE 88 OF KINGSTON PASSED AWAY SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 2002 AT METHODIST MEDICAL CENTER IN OAK RIDGE. PRECEDED IN DETH BY HIS WIFE MARGARET TETO. SURVIVORS INCLUDE DAUGHTER AND SON IN LAW; BARBARA AND BOB THORBJORNSEN, SONS; JAMES TETO, DANIEL TETO AND MICHAEL TETO. 8 GRANDCHILDREN, 2 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. Driggs, Carol Annis Mason - age 80, of Clarksville, departed this life to join at his home, her heavenly Father. Born on January 21, 1922, in Sweetwater, TN, the daughter of Mary and Worth Mason, both deceased. Preceded in death by husband, Captain Dale M. Driggs. Also preceded in death by brothers, Glenn "Dood" Mason and Ruell Mason; granddaughter, Stacey Hodge McFalls; brothers-in-law, Carl Black and Buddy Fredericks, and sister-in-law, Mattie Mason. Carol loved flowers and gardening. She was active for many years in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she attained the highest level of service. She enjoyed golf and was a previous column contributor at the Leaf Chronicle Newspaper of Clarksville. She most recently served as secretary to the Board of Trustees at Tarsus Community Church in Palmyra, TN. She enjoyed making crafts and sewing. She loved to paint and brought much joy to family and friends with her beautiful and artistic china paintings. Carol leaves behind daughter, Carol Ann Hodge of Kingston, and son and daughter-in-law, Dale M. Driggs, Jr. and Cynthia of Deland, FL. In addition, she leaves behind sisters, Jretta Black of Maryville, TN; grand-children, Dawn Hodge-Burlan, Robert Hodge and wife, Peggy, Dale Driggs, III, and Michelle Driggs and great-grandchildren, Garrett Burlan, Austin Hodge and Sara Hodge, in addition to nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Special friends, Sarah Phillips of Clarksville, and W.T. Chapman of Palmyra, TN. There will be visitation for family and friends at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Kykers Funeral Home, in Sweetwater, TN to be followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Julian Walton officiating, with burial at the family plot in Westview Cemetery in Sweetwater, TN.
Luther, Curtis Buckner Age 85, of Kingston passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at the home of his daughter, member of the Church of Christ. Preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Buckner and daughter, Phyllis Clark. Survivors Include: Daughters: Ozella Wadley and Elena Campbell Daughters and Sons-in-law: Imogene and Mike Plonka, Sheila and Leonard Morris 15 Grandchildren 19 Great-Grandchildren 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren Funeral 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002, in the Kyker Chapel with Danny Nunn officiating. Gann, Joe "Button", age 44, of Sweetwater, passed away after a lengthy illness, Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center. Preceded in death by: mother, Liza Lee Gann, brother, Eugene Gann, sister, Linda Gann. Survivors: wife, Linda Gann of Sweetwater, step-son, Alex Roach of Athens, step-daughters and sons-n-law, Patricia and Richard Gentry, Tonya and Dale Sledge, and Susan Hope all of Sweetwater. Father, Roy Charles Gann, brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Lee Gann of Harriman, Larry and Marie Gann, Robert Gann of Sweetwater, and Richard Gann of Etowah. Sisters; Vicky, Robin, Wanda, Helen, Bonnie all of Harriman. Step-grandchildren; Samantha, Hope, Faith Sledge and Kayla, Melissa, Chris Gentry. Several nieces and nephews. Family will visit Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 pm. Burial at 2:00 p.m. in Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park. Sweetwater Memory Chapel in charge of the arrangements.
Thomas, Edna H., age 100, of Sweetwater, TN, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2002, at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville following a brief illness. Mrs. Thomas retired from Bellsouth Phone Co. after 35 years of service. Mrs. Thomas was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church of Sweetwater. She was preceded in death by her daughter: Mary Helen Melton, son-in-law: George Bellamy, parents: James and Susan Martin, brothers: James, Ralph, and Tom Martin, sister: Ellen Carden. Survivors include: daughter, Shirley J. Bellamy, son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Judy Johnson all of Sweetwater. Grandchildren and spouses: Virginia "Tootie" and James Murrell of Madisonville; Mike and Robin Melton of Decatur; Judith "Chip" and Bob Kerzner of Sweetwater; Jill and Gerald Brown of Memphis; and Jay Johnson of Sweetwater. Great-grandchildren: Mike and Jennifer Melton, Jr. of Murfreesboro; Amber and Clay Halcomb of Tellico Plains; Caitlin Brown of Memphis; Kelsey Frix of Sweetwater; and Jaban Johnson of Athens. Great-great-grandchildren: Hailey Halcomb of Tellico Plains and Kyle Jordon and Nolan Randal Melton both of Murfreesboro. Several nieces. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Saturday with the funeral service to follow at 7:30 p.m. in Kyker's Chapel with Rev. Anderson McCulley officiating. Interment will be at 9:00 a.m. Sunday in the Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the building fund of the First Baptist Church of Sweetwater.
Hengstler, Jim, age 76 of Kingston, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2002 at the Roane Medical Center. Member of the Morrison Hill Christian Church and Union Lodge #38 F&AM. and a board member at Michael Dunn. Survivors include: wife, Ruth Hengstler of Kingston, nieces; Shirley Stearns of Toledo, Ohio, Barbara Huber of Columbus, Ohio, and many friends. Funeral 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Kyker Chapel with Minister Dennis Mullen officiating. Burial in Wartburg Cemetery, Wartburg, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Robert Petree, Daniel Petree, Stephen Petree, Robert Sanders, John Sanders, Lloyd Cook, Reed Kerr. Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Rambling Rebels Square Dance Club of Oak Ridge. Ann Poole Garrett, age 89 of Harriman passed away Sunday, March 24, 2002 at Roane Medical Center. She was of the Baptist faith. She was an employee of Burlington Mill. Preceded in death by her husband, Claude Garrett, parents, Jim and Chrissy Poole, brothers, Bob Poole, Howard Poole, Taylor Poole, sisters; Minnie Hickman, Hope Taylor, and Ruby Howard. Survivors several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Kyker Funeral Home Chapel in Harriman with Rev. Ellis Patterson officiating. Interment at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at Roane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman.
Dortha "Wright" Todd, age 86 of Harriman passed away Sunday, March 24, 2002 at Harriman Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of Trenton St. Baptist Church. Survivors: husband, Hermon Todd of Harriman, daughters; Mildred Todd of Harriman; Ann Rhea Janow of Harriman; sons; Allen Todd of Fayettville, NC; Ronald Todd of Simpsonville, SC; sister; Mary Jarnagin of Harriman; grandchildren; Stephen Bane of Harriman; Bradley Todd of Alexandria, VA; Pamela Bane of Harriman; Rachel Todd Poysky of London, Ontario; Teresa Bucholz of Raleigh, NC. Funeral will be held 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Kyker Funeral Home Chapel in Harriman with Rev. Dennis Jarnagin officiating. Interment 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Emory Heights Cemetery. Joann Sampson Age 67of Harriman passed away Monday March 25,2002 at Methodest Medical Center. She was a member of South Harriman Baptist Church. She was a of the Diabetes Association in Harriman. She retired from Harrell’s I.G.A. Grocery Store. Preceded in death by son David Fink. Survivors include, sons: Jeffery L. Fink, Terry A Fink both of Harriman, sister: Carol Hicks of Harriman, brothers: Jack Sampson and Kenneth "Buddy" Sampson both of Harriman. 4 grandchildren. Funeral 8:00 P.M. Sunday at Kyker Funeral Home Chapel in Harriman. Interment 11:00 A.M. Monday at Childs Memorial Cemetary. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman.
Snyder, John Henry, age 94, of Sweetwater, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Wood Presbyterian Home. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Evelyn Blair Snyder; parents; John and Betty Rogers Snyder, brothers; George and Floyd Snyder, sisters; Katie Smith, Inez Raper, Goldie Nelson, and Annie Torres. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home Sweetwater where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Dallas Gibson officiating. Family and friends will meet Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park for interment. Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater is in charge of the arrangements.
Robbins, Marcene Vera O'Strand, age 80, Christian, Wife, Mother, and friend died at home Thursday morning after an extended illness. Marcene, an avid gardener, crafts person and longtime member of the Shade Grove Garden Club was the widow of Elmo Emerson Robbins and is survived by four children; Sherrie, Keith, Rise, and Wayne. Five grandchildren and a great-grandaughter. She will be terribly missed. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston. Family and friends will meet 9:50 a.m. Saturday at Kingston Memorial Gardens for a 10:00 a.m. graveside service and burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the friends of the Kingston City Library.
