Obituaries from April 2003 Nora Marie Yount Yarbrough, age 39, of Fernandian Beach, Florida, wife of Scott Unger, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2003, at her residence following a lengthy illness. A native of Sweetwater, TN, she was the daughter of the late Charles Andrew Yount and Mrs. Rachel Hammer Yount of Sweetwater, and had resided in Nassau County since 1991 when she relocated from Atlanta, GA. She was employed as the Facility Manager of the Long Point Golf Club at the Amelia Island Plantation whose staff and management provided Nora with exceptional compassion and understanding during her ordeal. She attended East TN State University and enjoyed playing the piano, riding horses and participating in rodeos, especially in the sport of barrel racing. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sweetwater. Survivors, besides her husband and mother, include a son, Daniel Yarbrough of Fernandina Beach; a sister, Pam Hagstrom; and a niece, Rachel Ann Hagstrom from Charleston, SC; a brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Becky Yount; nieces, Catie and Sarah; nephew, Andrew Yount all of Atlanta, GA. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Kyker Funeral Home, 113. W. in Sweetwater, TN 37873, with Tim Yount officiating. Burial will follow in Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach on Friday. "Red" Edgemon, age 84, of Ten Mile, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2003, at 7:55 p.m. at the family residence following a lengthy illness. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Kingston. Mr. Edgemon retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company after 35 years of service. He was a well-known Megg's and McMinn Co. farmer. He was an avid U.T. sports fan and a especially the Lady Vols team. He was a licensed Auctioneer. Mr. Edgemon was an internationally known and awarded instructor in wildlife management and trapping. He taught a credited course at Purdue University in Indiana in wildlife management and trapping since 1935. Mr. Edgemon had been featured on the Heartland Series and in the Knoxville News Sentinel on the topic of wildlife management and trapping. Preceded in death by his parents, Hardin and Dora Mae Edgemon. Survivors include: wife of 55 years, Ruth Mitchell Edgemon of Ten Mile; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Kay and Billy G. Joseph West "Buck" Loomis Sr., age 89 of Sweetwater, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at U.T. Medical Center Knoxville after a brief illness. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church of Sweetwater where he served as an Elder and Deacon. A veteran of the U.S. Army and discharged as a major and also served as the Captain of the Sweetwater National Guard when it was first activated in 1950. He attended the TMI of Sweetwater, the Cumberland University where he was in the athletic hall of fame. Mr. Loomis taught history at the Sweetwater High School, and served as football coach. Mr. Loomis along with his brothers in 1947, founded and operated the Loomis Packing Co. of Sweetwater. Preceded in death by his parents, Sheldon and Elizabeth Loomis, brother and 3 sisters, 1st wife of 54 years, Catherine Anne Thomas Loomis. She was born on February 4, 1913 in Cocke County, Tennessee, but in the late 1930's, moved with her family to the Swan Pond Community in Roane County where she lived for over 50 years. Preceded in death by her parents, Newton and Sadie Blazer and sister, Mrs. Grace (Cecil) Ownby. Retired from Burlington Hosiery Mill, was a faithful member of Swan Pond Methodist Church, seldom missing a Sunday. Survived by sisters, Mrs. Maud (Mac) Dawson of Wellington Place, Kingston, Mrs. Pearle Blaylock and husband, Evert of Nashville and Mrs. Anna Wyatt (Fowler) Gamble of Harriman; several nieces and nephews. Funeral at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at KYKER FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, HARRIMAN. Rev. Louis Hill officiating. Interment Roane County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Kyker Funeral Home, Harriman. Shirley Ann Plemons, age 60 of Sweetwater, TN, passed away Monday, April 28, 2003, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville. She was a member of Glennlock Baptist Church of Sweetwater. Preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Evie Dotson; brother, Donnie Dotson; sisters, Juanita, June, and Emeeden Dotson. Survivors include: husband of 39 years, Daniel Plemons; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Donnie Tuttle; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Barbara Plemons, Jim and Kristi Plemons, Jason Plemons all of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Travis, Cody, and Casey Tuttle, Jacob and Brent Plemons, Devin and Courtney Plemons, Deadra and Destiny Plemons; sisters and brothers-in-law,Barbara Lankford, Aldern and Dale Hall, Jewel and Bobby Tuttle, Fammie and Kerry Cansler, Elvina Goodman, Patricia Brooks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Emma Dotson, Randy and Becky Farris, Ronnie Dotson, Gerald and LeAnn Dotson; In-laws, David and Peggy Plemons, Alice and Clarence Thompson, Donna Harrison, Jo Ann Geer; special cousins, Kathleen Currier, Duck and Jack Reynolds; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Kyker's Chapel with Rev. Bufford Albright and Rev. Charles Cassidy officiating. Interment to follow in the Christianburg Baptist Church Cemetery. |
