Mr. Jack R. Sampson
Mr. Jack R. Sampson, age 65, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away
Saturday, January 24, 2004, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital
in Somerset.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, January 27, 2004, at
11:00 in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. David Troxell
and Rev. Mike Cassada officiating. He was laid to rest in the Holloway Cemetery.
Military honors were provided by the McCreary Central ROTC.
Jack was born May 24, 1938, in Whitley City, to the late George and
Flonnie Perkins Sampson. He is also preceded in death by a son,
Randy (Carp) Sampson and a sister Hazel Montford.
Surviving are his wife Nancy Ball Sampson of Whitley City, and two
sons, David and his wife Connie of Revelo, and George and his wife
Juanna of Whitley City. There are three brothers, Herbert Sampson
of Evanston Wyoming, Joe Sampson of Lake City, Florida, and George
Sampson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and a sister, Wilma Dean Perry
of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Jack had six grandchildren: Randall J.
Sampson, David Allan Sampson, Courtni Anne Sampson, Megan Stevens,
Britani Stevens and Blake Sampson.
Jack was retired from the Pine Knot Job Corp, was a member of the
Whitley City Second Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion
Post 115 of Stearns, The VFW Post 5127, and a member of the Greenwood
Masonic Lodge Post 903. He served his country both in the United
States Army and the Navy.

Mr. Henry Moore, Jr.
Mr. Henry Moore, Jr., of Whitley City, Kentucky passed away
Wednesday, January 21, 2004 after a brief illness. He was born April
2, 1915 in Harold, Kentucky to his parents, Henry Moore, Sr. and Nan
Hunter Moore. He graduated from Betsy Layne High School in 1933 and
from the University of Kentucky in 1941 with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Education. Mr. Moore taught at Betsy Layne High School and was the
basketball and baseball coach. During this time, he also operated
his coal mines in Floyd County.
Mr. Moore was a member of the Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church in
Whitley City, KY. He was a member of the East Point Masonic Lodge
for more than 60 years, having been initiated October 10, 1943.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Bryant Moore of Whitley City and
three daughters, Nancy Moore Jones of Whitley City, Janice Riggs and her
husband Phil and Brenda Stull and her husband Bill both of Lexington.
There are grandchildren, Trisha Moore, and Rachel Fisher, and two
great grandchildren Zachary Denniston and Blake Henry Moore.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Andrew Moore, and
six sisters, Spicie Martin, Mindy Goble, Eva Page, Lexie Martin,
Gustava Alley, and Sadie Martin.
Mr. Moore moved to Maryland in 1953 where he was a realtor and an
appraiser. He also had construction, insurance and rental agencies.
He received his Master’s Degree from American University in
Washington D.C.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday January 24 at 11 am in the
chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Staley and Rev. Mark
Sewell officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Claude "Bug" Durham Jr.
Mr. Claude "Bug" Durham Jr., age 71 of Whitley City, passed away on Sunday January 18, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in
Somerset.
The family received friends after 12 noon on Monday at Pine Knot
Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Durham Family Cemetery at
Greenwood.
He was born in Bee Rock on March 12, 1932. He was the son of the
late Claude C. and Pernetha Lamb Durham. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Bill J. and Marshall Durham, and two sisters, Ruby Durham and Betty Durham.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Durham, Whitley City and Claude
Douglas Durham of Revelo, a daughter, Betty Meece of Somerset and one step daughter, Virginia Sue Gregory of Pine Knot. Two sisters, Ethel Durham Clark of Deland, Florida and Georgia Durham Owens of WhitleyCity. There are six grandchildren, three step grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mr. Durham was a former caretaker for the US Forest Service.
Mr. Aaron Caddell
Mr. Aaron Caddell, of the Mountain View Apartments in Pine Knot began his journey into eternity on Wednesday January 14 at the Jellico Community Hospital. Aaron was 80 years old.
Funeral services were held at 2pm Sunday in the chapel of Pine Knot
Funeral Home, with Bro. John Gray officiating. Burial followed in
the Bethel Cemetery
He was born in Pine Knot on June 17, 1923. He was the son of the
late Orlando and Una Jones Caddell. In addition to his parents he is
preceded in death by a brother, J. E Caddell.
Survivors include 4 sisters, Dessie Cooper and Ruby Cooper both of
Pine Knot, Mary Duncan of Muncie, Indiana and Nola Robbinson of
Canton, Alabama. There are several nieces and nephews also surviving.
In the early 1940’s Aaron worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp,
and had also worked for Herb Gilreath. He made many lasting
friendships and acquaintances during his lifetime.
Clifford Lovejoy
Clifford Lovejoy, age 76 of Pine Knot passed away Monday.
Funeral Services will be Thursday at 11AM at Pine Knot Funeral Home
with Rev. William Kilby officiating. Burial will be in Hayes Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday after 6PM.

God chose Mr. Clifford Lovejoy, age 76, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, to come to Heaven on Monday, January 12, 2004,at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.
Mr. Lovejoy was born in Jarrolds Valley, West Virginia, on August 26, 1927, to the late Harry and Bertha Howell Lovejoy.
He was a maintenance worker for Steel Improvement Corp. in Cleveland, Ohio, and returned home to McCreary County in January of 1997. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy.
Mr. Lovejoy is also preceded in death by his wife Bernice Lovejoy, a brother, Donald Lovejoy, a sister Elizabeth Harris, and his father-in-law, Edd Litton.
He is survived by his companion/fiancé, Loretta Hill of Pine Knot, daughters, Shelia Norris of Cleveland, Ohio, Vicky Snider of Saginaw, Michigan, step-daughters, Sheila Addair of Richmond, Virginia, Brenda Lewallen of Pine Knot, step-sons, Tony Carr of Cleveland, Ohio, Steve Litton of Pine Knot, a very special son-in-law, Tony Lewallen and sisters: Gertie McGraw of Charleston, West Virginia, Ruby Clere of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Janet Deaton of Ohio, and Gayle Miller of Edgewater, Florida. There are three grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Ms. Lucille Thompson
Ms. Lucille Thompson, age 87, of Revelo, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March
16, 2004, at the Scott County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel
of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Crabtree and Bro. Francis King
officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
Born February 18, 1917, at Bear Creek in Scott County, Tennessee, she was a
daughter of the late Oliver and Ida Terry Strunk. She is also preceded in death
by her husband, Estle Thompson, a brother, Thurston Strunk and a brother-in-law
Logan King.
Mrs. Thompson had two sons, Allen Thompson and his wife Betty of North Vernon,
Indiana, and Larry Thompson and his wife Molly of Revelo, Kentucky. There are
two daughters, Vonda Lewis and her husband Morris of Gilley, Kentucky, and Wilma
Thompson of Revelo. A sister, Edna King and a sister-in-law Kathleen Strunk
also survive. She has 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 2 great-great
grandchildren, 8 nieces and nephews and all their families.
Mrs. Thompson was of the Baptist faith, having attended the Upper Hickory Grove
Church. She owned and operated the Strunk Grocery at Strunk, Kentucky, for many
years.

Andrew Wilson
Funeral services for Andrew Wilson, age 56 of Oneida, formerly of McCreary County will be Tuesday March 2, at 8pm in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Clay Cook and Bro. Willis Troxell officiating. Burial services will follow at 11 am Wednesday at the Botts Cemetery in Anna Dell, Tennessee.
Born in Oneida, TN on January 1, 1948, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Imogene Anderson Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Bernedene Botts Wilson of Oneida, who he married on March 9, 2001. He is also survived by a son Christopher Andrew Wilson of Pine Knot, two brothers, John Wilson and his wife Lisa, and Mitchell Wilson Jr, and his wife Sarah. Three sisters, Brenda Cook and her husband Clay, Anna Taylor and her husband Earl, and Judy Wilson. There are special brothers and sisters, Milicia Kidd and her husband Carl, Macy Stephens, Mittie King and her husband Luther, Merrell Wilson and his wife Beverly, and Murton Wilson and his wife Georgia. His father in law and mother in law, Bernard and Ruth Botts, Brothers in law and sisters in law, Linda Sexton, Loretta Pippin and her husband Rick, Wayne Botts and his wife Mildred, Gary Botts and his wife Rita, Jerry Botts and his wife Leona, and Paul Botts and his wife Tina.
Andrew was a former employee of Tecumseh Products of Somerset and was currently attending the Davis Hill Church of God.

William Charles Kidd
William Charles Kidd, age 78 of Fairborn, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2004.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 31, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Bryant officiating. Dennis and his wife Charlotte Bryant provided the special music. Mr. Kidd was laid to rest in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
He was born August 19, 1925, in Kentucky, the son of Emby and Flora Mae West Kidd. He lived for many years in Kentucky, marrying Lucille Smith on September 18, 1943. She preceded him in death in 1997, as well as a daughter Betty Jean Engle in 1999.
Charles worked for many years for Thornton Daugherty before moving to Ohio and then working for Weidner Construction retiring in 1991.
He is survived by his sons, William Larry Kidd and Roger Dale Kidd, of Pine Knot, and Garry Lee and Ranee Kidd of Fairborn, Ohio, and his daughters, Patricia Ann Leach and her husband Tom of Fairborn, Ohio, Brenda Jo Shufeldt and her husband Jesse of Crystal River, Florida. Eleven grandchildren include Charles Estell Easterling and his wife Theresa of Canel City, Kentucky, Maquada Easterling of Georgetown, Kentucky, Kim Easterling of Hindman, Kentucky, Chasity Kidd, Gary Daniel Kidd, and Mariah Jean Kidd all of Fairborn, Ohio, Cindy Wolfe and her husband Doug of Long Beach, California, Melanie Joy Bissacco and her husband Michael of Spring Hill, Florida, and Jeremy, Alysia and Crystal Kidd of London, Kentucky.
There are eight great grandchildren: Charles, Darrick, Beau, Elyssa, Cody, Devon, Johnathan, and Kelsey, and a great great grandchild, Jordan Terrance Kidd, of Fairborn, Ohio.
Mr. Kidd had three brothers, Edward Kidd of Pleasant Plains, Ohio, Dillard Ray Kidd of Muncie, Indiana, and Oscar Lee Kidd and his wife Betty of Pine Knot. Charles had numerous nieces and nephews, He will also be sadly missed by close neighbors and cousins Marie and Cathy and Roy Taylor.

Mr. Morris Edward Kidd, age 59, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed from this life
Saturday, April 10, 2004, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset,
Kentucky.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 15, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev.
Wendell Hill and Rev. Eddie King officiating. He was laid to rest in the Kidd
Cemetery in Pine Knot.
He was born on September 9, 1944, to Edward E. and Edith Lay Kidd in McCreary
County, Kentucky. His mother and a brother, Robert Kidd precedes him in death.
His family include his father Edward Kidd of Pine Knot, three daughters: Brenda
Musick of Rising Sun, Maryland, Tina Harvey and her husband Gary of Port
Deposit, Maryland, Christina Hilliker of Elkton, Maryland, and two sons: Morris
Eric Kidd and his wife Jennifer of North East, Maryland, and Ronald Edward Kidd
and his wife Jennifer of Port Deposit, Maryland, and the mother of his children,
Linda Kidd of Elkton, Maryland.
There are two sisters, Ester King and her husband Dean of Pine Knot and Joan
Curtis and her husband Clarence of Frankfort, Kentucky.
Morris was a truck driver for Allied Trucking. He was a member of the Sulpher
Springs Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and cooking, especially Sunday
morning breakfast. He took much pleasure in spending time with his precious
grandchildren: Thomas Kidd, Justin Kidd, Alannah Kidd, Joshua Kidd, Steven
Smith, Mara Smith, Taylor Musick, Jennifer Harvey, Christopher Harvey, and
George Hilliker.

Randi Elaine Chitwood, age 19 of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Friday, May 21, 2004, at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida, Tennessee.

She entered life the daughter of Lisa Stephens Chaney and Randy Chitwood on May 6, 1985, in Somerset, Kentucky.
She is preceded in death by a step-mother, Belinda, Jayne Waters Chitwood, a great grandfather, James Tapley.
Her family include a daughter, Riley King of Pine Knot, her mother Lisa Chaney and her husband Greg of Pine Knot, her father Randy Chitwood and his wife Radena of Winfield, Tennessee, two sisters, Rachel Anderson of Pine Knot and Brooklyn Chitwood of Winfield, a brother Zachary Chaney of Pine Knot and a step-sister, Cameron Kidd of Winfield and two step-brothers, Shane and John Vanover of Marshes Siding.
Randi’s grandparents are Jimmy and Jean Stephens, Raymond and Brenda Chitwood, and Dean and June Chaney, a great grandmother Betty Thompson, all of Pine Knot, and a grandmother, Wilma Waters of Stearns. She also leaves behind a very special friend, Ashley King.
Randi was the daughter of a wonderful and loving family, the mother of a beautiful baby girl, a special niece to several aunts and uncles, a fun cousin, and a best friend to many, many people.

Mrs. Carol Jean Stigall, of Winfield, Tennessee, passed from this life Thursday evening, May 20, 2004, at the Baptist West Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was 49 years old.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at the Indian Creek United Baptist Church with Bro. Dick Taylor officiating. Special singing was provided by the Keith Family Singers. She was laid to rest in the Indian Creek Cemetery.
She entered life the daughter of Euel and Joyce Thenal Rose on January 6, 1955, in Parkers Lake, Kentucky. Jean has joined her mother in Heaven, and a sister Vicie Bowers, who left this life on July 15, 2000.
Jean leaves her husband, Darrell Stigall of Winfield, Tennessee, a daughter, Angel Renee Rose of Winfield, two step sons: Bary Boyatt of Strunk, KY, and Craig Boyatt of Nashville, Tennessee. And a step daughter, Mary Beth Stigall of Somerset. She has 5 Brothers: Herbert Rose, Levi and Linda Rose, Lester and Linda Rose, Earl and Dinah Rose, and Wayne and Wahena Rose all of Parkers Lake, and 4 sisters: Barbara Rose of Parkers Lake, Dessell and Steve Lanter of Winfield, Pearl and Jim Goodin of Parkers Lake, and Marcella and Kenny Stacy of Dalton, Georgia.
Jean had 6 grandchildren: Devin Tyler, Jessie Wayne, Shadonna, Lanesha, Leanna and Shelby.
Jean was retired from her work having last worked at Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed spending time with her family. May we all cherish the love and memories she left for us.

Mrs. Myrtle Mae Gilreath Baird
Mrs. Myrtle Mae Gilreath Baird, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed from this life early Wednesday morning, May 19, 2004, at the McCreary County Health Care Facility in Pine Knot. She was 87 years old.
She entered life the daughter of the late Joe W. and Ova Jones Gilreath on November 3, 1916 in Savoy, Whitley County, Kentucky.
Along with her parents, Myrtle has joined her husband in Heaven, Joseph Fletcher Baird, who went before her in May of 1985. Other family members who are deceased are two daughters, Josephine and Laura Esther Baird, a brother, Homer Gilreath and a sister Savannah Smith.
Myrtle leaves a daughter, Shirley Fay Lay and her husband Verlin, of Strunk, and four sons: Ledford Baird and his wife Jean of Pine Knot, Fred Baird and his wife Eileen of Pine Knot, Clyde Baird and his wife Frances of Milford, Ohio, and Alvin Baird and his wife Sue, also of Milford, Ohio. There are two sisters, Mary Selvedge of Roseville, Michigan and Dora Lovett of Warren, Michigan and a brother, Arnold Gilreath and his wife Lillian of Lyles, Tennessee. There are 10 surviving grandchildren ) and one deceased) and there are 13 great grandchildren.
Myrtle was a loving mother, dedicated wife, and devoted Christian and made a warm and wonderful home for her family, which gave her complete satisfaction. Besides spending time with her family, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting and gardening. She enjoyed the beauty of the flowers she raised. May she now enjoy the beauty of eternal life.

Irene Smiddy
Irene Smiddy, age 71,of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2004, at the McCreary County Health Care Facility in Pine Knot, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at the Davis Hill Church of God in Pine Knot with Bro. Clay Cook officiating. Chuck Smiddy delivered the eulogy and members of the church provided special music. She was laid to rest in the T. Chitwood Cemetery.
Irene was born August 19, 1932, at Pineville, Kentucky, to the late James Mart and Lillie Daniels Partin. She was a restaurant worker and member of the Davis Hill Church of God. Besides her parents, her husband Homer Smiddy who died December 17, 1961 precedes her in death.
Irene’s family include two daughters, Carol Smiddy of Pine Knot, Debbie Summers and her husband Freddie of Pine Knot, and three sons: Homer Smiddy and his wife Janie of Middlesboro, Dester Smiddy and his wife Vicki, of Oneida, Tennessee, Allen Smiddy and his wife Tammy of Pine Knot. She was blessed to have nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Surviving brothers are Avery Partin of Middlesboro, and James Partin of Cincinnati, Ohio, and sisters, Gladys Martin of Middlesboro, Polly Vaughn of Princeton, New Jersey and Brenda Seivers of Lafollette, Tennessee.

Mr. Orey Ernest Owens, Jr.
Mr. Orey Ernest Owens, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Oneida, passed from this life on Monday evening, May 10, 2004, at the age of 43.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 13, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hilltop Baptist Church in Oneida with Rev. Pharaoh Overton officiating. The Carson Family singers provided special music. He was laid to rest in the Owens Family Cemetery, in Oneida, Tennessee.
He is survived by his three sons: Jared Nathan Owens, James Vincent Owens and Justin Matthew Owens all of the Dayton, Ohio, area and a daughter, MaLana Owens also of the Dayton area. His parents are O. E. and Helen Anderson Owens of Oneida. Two brothers, Timothy David Owens and his wife Zena and Jeffrey Lynn Owens and his wife Jamie both of Oneida, and a sister, Joyce Ann Foster and her husband Paul of Knoxville also survive him. In addition to a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, he leaves behind his many wonderful friends.
Orey was a self-employed tree trimmer until an accident rendered him disabled in 1994. Throughout those years, he still enjoyed life and enjoyed going places until he was no longer able. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him and learned from him.

On the evening of Tuesday, May 4, 2004, Tyler Anthony Showalter was born and died at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.
Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, May 06, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hayes Creek Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Bryant officiating.
He was the precious little son of Kathy Boone and Anthony Showalter of Strunk, Kentucky. Preceding him in death are his great grandparents Lessie and Ed Meadows and an aunt Amber Boone.
Grandparents are Danny C. Boone of Strunk, Kentucky, Lena and Eddie Phelps of Bardstown, Kentucky, Virginia and Edward Bryant of Stearns, Kentucky, Carol and Tommy Lasley of Louisville and great grandmother Julia Showalter of Louisville.

Mr. Archie “Blueboy” Perry
Mr. Archie “Blueboy” Perry, age 57, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 26, 2004, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held Friday Morning at 11:00 in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Mitch Shelton and Shirley Young officiating. Military honors will be provided by the McCreary Central ROTC and the American Legion Kinne-Slaven Post 115 of Stearns. Special music will be provided by the Phillips Family.
Archie was the son of the late Bishop and Truie Perry. In addition to his parents, he will be meeting his son Christopher Perry, a son-in-law Newtie Spradlin, a grandchild Tommi Lynn Bryant and a sister Ann Staley in Heaven.
He was united in marriage to Lois West Perry on February 4, 1965, in Stearns, Kentucky. Besides Christopher, they were blessed with four other children: Priscilla Spradlin of Pine Knot, Carolyn King and her husband Crandell of Whitley City, Thelma Bryant and her husband Tom of Marshes Siding, and MeLinda Wallen and her husband Mike of Somerset. There are 10 surviving grandchildren.
Archie has four surviving sisters: Rachel Slaven of Ohio, Sue Elefritz of Troy, Ohio, Connie Perry of Columbus, Ohio, and Flonnie Jones of Whitley City, Kentucky, and two brothers, Ernie and Harold Perry, both of Cincinnati, Ohio. There is also a special niece, Teresa Perry and nephew, Russell Jones.
Archie worked in the coal mines for 23 years, employed by Blue Diamond Coal Company. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War period. He was a member of the Kinne-Slaven American Legion Post 115 of Stearns. Among many things, he took pride in honoring veterans by placing flags on their graves on Memorial Day. He enjoyed playing the part of Santa Claus at Christmas and took much pleasure in delivering fruit baskets to the elderly and shut-ins. For many years he was a coach and umpire for McCreary County Little League. He was a Christian man who served his God by serving and giving to others.

MR. RONNIE MONROE DUNCAN
MR. RONNIE MONROE DUNCAN, AGE 33, OF PINE KNOT, KENTUCKY, PASSED AWAY ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 22 AT THE SCOTT COUNTY HOSPITAL IN ONEIDA, TENNESSEE.
FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD SATURDAY, APRIL 24, 2004, AT 1:00 P.M. IN THE CHAPEL OF PINE KNOT FUNERAL HOME WITH REV. WENDELL HILL AND REV. EDDIE KING OFFICIATING. HE WAS LAID TO REST IN THE KIDD CEMETERY. FIREMAN?S HONORS WERE BESTOWED UPON HIM BY THE SOUTH McCREARY FIRE DEPARTMENT.
HE WAS BORN INTO THIS LIFE ON FEBRUARY 17, 1971, IN SOMERSET, KENTUCKY, TO RONNIE DUNCAN AND THE LATE LINDA MORGAN DUNCAN. HE LEAVES BEHIND HIS FATHER RONNIE AND HIS WIFE LORETTA WHO RESIDE IN SPRINGDALE, OHIO, AND A SISTER, MEGHAN DUNCAN WHO LIVES IN LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY. HIS PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER IS VINA DUNCAN OF PINE KNOT, AND MATERNAL GRANDMOTHER, MARY SMITT OF READING, OHIO. HE HAS AN UNCLE, JAMES CONLEY DUNCAN AND HIS WIFE CONNIE OF SANDY HOOK, KENTUCKY. HE ALSO LEAVES BEHIND A SPECIAL COUSIN, KAYLA FERGUSON, AND A HOST OF RELATIVES AND FRIENDS THAT WILL MOURN HIS PASSING. IN SERVING OTHERS HIS LAMP BURNED OUT.
MONROE WAS A DEDICATED FIREFIGHTER WITH THE SOUTH McCREARY FIRE DEPARTMENT AND A MEMBER OF THE CENTRAL BAPTIST CHURCH IN CINCINNATI, OHIO.

Ms. Nancy Maxwell
Ms. Nancy Maxwell, age 52, of Revelo, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April
21, 2004, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kenttucky.
Funeral services were held on Saturday April 24, 2004 at 8pm in the chapel of
Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Fred Bolin officiating. She was laid to rest
at the Bethel Cemetery on Sunday April 25.
She entered life the daughter of the late Roy and Pearl Perkins Stephens on
February 19, 1952, in Pine Knot, Kentucky. Also preceding her in death are a
brother, Bob Stephens, a sister Cynthia Marie Stephens and a good friend Harold
R. Maxwell.
Nancy leaves a daughter, Melissa L. Maxwell of Ohio, and a son Chris W. Maxwell
of Smithtown, Kentucky, and her beloved companion, Conley Neal of Revelo, and
four grandchildren: Christen Tucker, Christopher Maxwell, Caiden Maxwell and
Calyssa Maxwell.
There are six brothers: Donald Stephens and his wife Sylvia of Pine Knot,
Roger Stephens of Pine Knot, Jimmy Stephens and his wife Linda of Smithtown,
Bill Stephens and his wife Beulah of Somerset, and Lee Stephens of Felicity,
Ohio. There are three sisters: Faye Stephens of Pine Knot, Linda Stephens of
Revelo, Helen Gilreath and her husband Jim of Austin, Kentucky.
Nancy was employed by the American Bag Corporation, and took much pleasure in
being outdoors. She loved her family and enjoyed many wonderful and lasting
friendships. May we all cherish the love he left for us.
Mr. Everett J. Neal
Mr. Everett J. Neal, age 80 of Strunk, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday April 13,
2004, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 16, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of
Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. John Gray and Rev. Billy Mitchell officiating.
Special music was provided by the Everett Neal Family, Hid in the Rock, Bro.
Leamon Perry, and the Hayes Creek Singers (Donna, Joy, Alisha). Committal
service was conducted by Rev. Leamon Perry at the Upper Cal Hill Cemetery.
Military honors were delivered by the Fort Campbell Honor Guard Division of the
United States Army.
Born in Helenwood, Tennessee, on May 2, 1923, he was the son of the late William
“Bill” Neal and Isabelle Stephens Neal. Along with his parents, he is preceded
in death by 2 brothers, Edgar and Edward Neal, and 5 sisters, Edna Keeton, Jewel
Creekmore, Katherine Wright, Lora Privett and Irene Trammell.
Survivors include his wife, Effie Watson Neal of Strunk. Everett and Effie were
married on January 2, 1946 in Whitley City by Judge Ed Perkins. There are five
sons: Ronnie Everett Neal and his wife Lydia of Sidney, Indiana, William
Sherman Neal and his wife Denise of Parkers Lake, Larry Dale Neal and his wife
Linda of Helenwood, Bruce Neal and his wife Cyndi of Pine Knot and Chris Neal
and his wife Lucinda of Strunk.
Three daughters: Kathy Ann Moore of Stearns, Barbara Faye Zimmerman and her
husband Chuck of Waynesville, North Carolina and Linda Katherine Crabtree and
her husband Cliff of Pine Knot. There is one sister, Myrtle Webb of Helenwood.
There are 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Everett served his God as a member of the Meadows Grove Baptist Church, and
served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for
D. H. Campbell, Inc. for 24 years.
Pine Knot Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
Harold Lavender
Harold Lavender began is peaceful escape from the burden of this life on Monday
April 5, 2004 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. He was 81
years old.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday April 7 at 8pm in the chapel of Pine
Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Bruce Dixon officiating. Burial services were held
on Thursday April 8 at 11am at the Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery with Military
Honors provided by the McCreary Central ROTC.
He was born in Elgin, Tennessee son of the late James and Dora Mayes Lavender.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Luther,
Cleve, and Lawrence Lavender, and a sister, Georgia Jones.
He married his wife Jewelene on August 1, 1942, giving them nearly 62 years of
companionship with each other. 3 children blessed this marriage, Michael
Lavender and his wife Melinda of Greensburg, Indiana. Elizabeth McLaughlin and
her husband Robert of Indianapolis, Indiana and Patricia Hoffman and her husband
Richard of Stearns. He has one brother James Lavender and his wife Nancy of
Indianapolis and a sister, Juanelle Cross of Indianapolis. They have 5
grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Harold was an Army Veteran of WW II having served in the European Theater and
received the Bronze Star Medal in honor of his valor in his country call to
duty. Harold enjoyed his woodworking and working outdoors. He loved his
tractor and working his garden and enjoyed all the beauty that God so richly
gave.
