Billy LeRoy Puckett, 75, of Dukedom, died Monday, February 6, 2006, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Puckett were held Friday, February 10, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Jackson Funeral Home in Dukedom. Burial followed in Good Springs Cemetery in Dukedom. Bro. Steve Cochrum officiated the services. Mr. Puckett was a retired farmer and a member of the Knob Creek Church of Christ. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was born December 14, 1930 in Weakley County and had lived in this area all of his life. Mr. Puckett was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Lynn (Marr) and Roy Marshal Puckett; and a brother, Russell Puckett. Mr. Puckett is survived by a daughter, Katherine Collins of Paris; two sons, Chris Puckett of South Fulton, and Paul Puckett of Dukedom; and six grandchildren.

Chester L. Anderson, Jr.
Chester L. Anderson, Jr., 57, of Dresden, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Anderson were held Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Dr. Don McCulley officiated the services. Mr. Anderson was a Weakley County Courthouse Aide and was a Presbyterian by faith. He was born in Gary, Indiana to Bertie Hamlin Anderson and the late Chester L. Anderson, Sr. Mr. Anderson is survived by his mother, Bertie Hamlin Anderson of Dresden; and a sister, Nancy Knott of Dresden.

Edna Jones White
Edna Jones White, 78, of Martin, died Saturday, February 11, 2006, at Beverly Health Care in Union City. Funeral services for Mrs. White were held Monday, February 13, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Ken Parker officiated the services. Mrs. White was a Registered Nurse and had worked at Weakley County Hospital. She was retired from Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City and after retirement had worked at Beverly Health Care in Union City. She was a graduate of Martin High School and a 1973 graduate of UTM with an Associate of Art Degree in Nursing. She was a Baptist by faith. Mrs. White was born October 29, 1927 in Weakley County to the late Felix Maiden Jones and Bessie Davis Jones. In addition to her parents, Mrs. White was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl White; a son, Barry Glenn Harper; a brother, Wilmer Jones; and a sister, Doris Barrett. Mrs. White is survived by a son, Larry Raymond Harper of Martin; a sister, Pauline Dozier of Franklin, Tennessee; one grandchild, Dewayne Harper of Martin; and four great-grandchildren, Alli, Cassidy, Aubreigh, and Manson Harper.

Edna Lois Royster
Edna Lois Royster, 71, of Troy, died Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Graveside services for Ms. Royster were held Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at 12:00 noon at Morris Cemetery in Greenfield. Dennie Duncan officiated the services. Ms. Royster was a homemaker. She was born January 22, 1935 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Earmon Cardwell and Vinnie Ophelia Mitchell. Ms. Royster is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Akin; and two sons, Ken Sharp of Troy, and Tommy Sharp of Troy.

Ella Mai Cantwell
Ella Mai Cantwell, 83, of Martin, died Thursday, February 9, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Cantwell were held Saturday, February 11, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in New Prospect Cemetery in Greenfield. Rev. Mark Abbott officiated the services. Mrs. Cantwell was a homemaker and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Greenfield. She was born July 29, 1922 in Weakley County to the late Hobart Carlton and Marie Rassett Carlton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cantwell was also preceded in death by her husband, J.E. Cantwell. Mrs. Cantwell is survived by a sister, Mirtie Sue Kirkland of Martin.

James Edgar Lindsey
James Edgar Lindsey, 78, of Springville, Tennessee, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris. Funeral services for Mr. Lindsey were held Saturday, February 11, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home in Gleason. Rev. Claude Smithmier, Rev. Fred Morris, and Rev. James Gilbert officiated the services. Mr. Lindsey was a retired business management consultant for Proctor & Gamble Kimberly Clark and former trustee at Bethel College. He was also a veteran of WWII and was a member of the Gleason First United Methodist Church. Mr. Lindsey was born November 14, 1928 in Gleason to the late Wilburn Lee Lindsey and Lessie Lavergne Parks Lindsey. Mr. Lindsey is survived by his wife, Minnie Dean Bennett Lindsey; a son, Lawrence Lindsey of Pennington, New Jersey; a daughter, Leesa Lindsey Roberts of Littleton, Colorado; and two grandchildren.

Pat Cole
Patricia (Pat) Ann McGlockin Cole, age 62, died Thursday, February 9, 2006, at Jackson-Madison Hospital. Funeral services were Saturday, February 11, 2:00 p.m. at McKenzie Funeral Home. Interment was at Carroll Memorial Gardens. Brother Dennis Trull officiated. Mrs. Cole was born October 22, 1943 to C. E. (Flip) and Francis Youree McGlockin in Franklin, Tennessee. She worked as sports editor for The McKenzie Banner for 18 years. She was a certified schoolteacher and briefly taught at McLemoresville before the West Carroll consolidation and substituted many years at McKenzie school system. She managed and worked at the McKenzie Recreation Park concession stand during numerous summers. She also volunteered many years in the concession stand for the McKenzie High School Band. She was the valedictorian of her high school class in Florida and returned to McKenzie to attend and graduate from Bethel College. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Samuel Cole; her parents, C.E. and Francis McGlockin; and a brother, Tom McGlockin. Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Cole, and a son, John Ed Cole, both of McKenzie. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life -Carroll North.

Porter Brooks Kennedy
Porter Brooks Kennedy, 87, of Martin, died Saturday, February 11, 2006, at her daughter's home in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Kennedy were held Monday, February 13, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Andy Brewer, Brad Brewer, and Darin Kennedy officiated the services. Mrs. Kennedy was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Church of Christ in Martin. She was a graduate of Martin High School. Mrs. Kennedy was born July 31, 1918 in Martin to the late James Luther Brooks and Jessie Crawford Brooks. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kennedy was also preceded in death by her husband, Larry Kennedy; a brother, Crawford Brooks; and a sister, Helen Beale. Mrs. Kennedy is survived by a son, Brooks Kennedy of Ft. Worth, Texas; a daughter, LaRee Brewer of Martin; four grandchildren, Darin Brooks Kennedy, Derek Lambert Kennedy, Bradley Steven Brewer, and Andy Jason Brewer; and two great-grandchildren, Michael Kennedy and Daniel Kennedy.

Sarah W. Cotton
Sarah W. Cotton, 80, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at Humboldt General Hospital. Funeral services for Ms. Cotton were held Saturday, February 11, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson Tabernacle CME Church. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greenfield. Rev. James G. Dowell officiated the services. Ms. Cotton was a factory worker. She was born January 3, 1926 in Bruce, Mississippi to the late Charlie Wade and Ellal Hearvey. Ms. Cotton is survived by three sons, Johnny C. Cotton of Martin, Charlie Cotton of Humboldt, and Larry Carter of Knoxville; six daughters, Geneva Armstrong of Greenfield, Hattie Cotton of Greenfield, Yvonne Higgs of Greenfield, Sadie Robinson of Memphis, Betty Locust of Humboldt, and Ellal Carter of Memphis; a sister, Clybie Marion of Bruce, Mississippi; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and nineteen great-great-grandchildren.

William H. Foster
William H. Foster, 78, of Dresden, died Thursday, February 9, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Foster were held Saturday, February 11, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home in Dresden. Burial followed in Martin Memorial Gardens in Martin. Dr. Don McCulley officiated the services. Mr. Foster was a warehouse supervisor for Quebecor and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a native of Weakley County and the son of the late Penn Elmus and Maggie Garner Foster. In addition to his parents, Mr. Foster was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Emmie Legens Foster. Mr. Foster is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Joyce White Foster of Dresden; a daughter, Gail Tuck of Martin; a son, Mike Foster of Paris; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth B. Zito
Elizabeth B. Zito, 99, of Dresden, died Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Zito were held Thursday, May 4, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery near Dresden. Father Joe Paolozzi officiated the services. Mrs. Zito was a housewife and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Martin. She was a native of Taylorville, Illinois and the daughter of the late Frank and Antonia Kruzich. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Zito was also preceded in death by a sister, Ida Smith; two brothers, Albert Kruzich and Frank Kruzich; and a grandchild. Mrs. Zito is survived by her husband, Mr. Mario Joseph Zito of Dresden; two sons, John A. Moross of Lago Vista, Texas, and David R. Moross of Mecosta County, Michigan; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Elner Ray Green
Elner Ray Green, 70, of Dresden, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Green were held Friday, May 5, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Fuller Street Baptist Church in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunrise Cemetery in Dresden. Rev. Alvandon Taylor officiated the services. Mrs. Green was a retired housekeeper and a member of Fuller Street Baptist Church in Dresden. She was a native of Dresden and the daughter of the late Rois N. and Lue Anna Pope Moore. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Green was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Andrew Green. Mrs. Green is survived by two daughters, Janice McNairl of Dayton, Ohio, and Jeniffer Green Hawkins of Vacaville, California; two sisters, Edith Johnson of Muskogee, Ohio, and Jackie Edwards of Dresden; and five grandchildren.

Emma Louise "C.C." Bell
Emma Louise "C.C." Bell, 84, of Jackson, died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Graveside services for Mrs. Bell were held Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Hopewell Cemetery in Gleason. Rev. Bennie Hopper officiated the services. Mrs. Bell was a homemaker. She was born September 6, 1921 in Dresden to the late Ea Jeter and Annie Meal "McElwrath" Jeter. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bell was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joe Bell; and a brother, John Thomas Jeter. Mrs. Bell is survived by a son, Dr. Peter A. Bell of Dover; a daughter, Betty McWherter of Jackson; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Evelyn V. Henry
Evelyn V. Henry, 92, of Martin, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at VanAyer Manor and Rehab in Martin. Graveside services for Mrs. Henry were held Thursday, May 4, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Larry Reagan officiated the services. Mrs. Henry was a homemaker. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Charles and Mary Miller Schitzterry. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Henry was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Hugh Boyd Henry. Mrs. Henry is survived by her friend, Martha Jo Damron of Martin.

Mary A. Elliott
Mary A. Elliott, 63, of Greenfield, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at Regional Hospital of Jackson. Funeral services for Mrs. Elliott were held Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Bro. James Ray Hayes officiated the services. Mrs. Elliott was a factory worker at Kellwood/Wormser and was a Baptist by faith. She was born October 31, 1942 in Greenfield to the late Howard Brewer and Brooksie Sawyers. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Elliott was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Kay Capps. Mrs. Elliott is survived by her husband, Jimmy Elliott of Greenfield; a son, Michael Capps of Dyersburg; six daughters, Melissa (Capps) Vaughn of Greenfield, Renea (Capps) Allen of Greenfield, Donna (Capps) Burton of Atwood, Juanita (Elliott) Dildine of Martin, Cassie (Elliott) Paschall of Martin, and Tina (Elliott) Beasley of Lexington; four sisters, Barbara Pence of Greenfield, Betty Page of Gleason, Linda Cozart of South Fulton, and Martha Hayes of Gleason; and two brothers, Jerry Brewer of Gleason, and Bill Brewer of Palmersville.

Robert E. Lee, Jr.
Robert E. Lee, Jr., 76, of Dresden, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Lee were held Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Brian Crow and Bro. Shannon Seaton officiated the services. Mr. Lee was a school bus driver and a member of Union Chapel Church of Christ near Palmersville. He was a native of Lake County and the son of the late Robert E. and Opal Lillie Dial Lee. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lee was also preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Butler Poore; and a brother, William Lee. Mr. Lee is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Ruth Brown Lee of Dresden; a daughter, Rebecca Ann Turbeville of Shiloh, Illinois; a stepdaughter, Theresa (Eddie) Arnold of Greenfield; a son, Johnny Wayne (Virginia) Lee of Greenfield; five stepsons, Dale Turbeville of Shiloh, Illinois, Gerald (Brenda) Turbyville of Knoxville, Brad Turbyville of Greenfield, Donnie (Wanda)Turbyville of Dresden, and Larry (Kathi) Turbyville of Durham, North Carolina; a sister, Betty Jean DeLong of Martin; eighteen grandchildren; and thirty great-grandchildren.

Sidney Gordon Meers
Sidney Gordon Meers, 81, retired from the Furniture and Electronics business, formerly of Senatobia, Mississippi, died May 7, 2006 at his residence in Biloxi, Mississippi. Services will be held today, Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at the Senatobia Church of Christ with burial in Bethesda Cemetery in Senatobia. He leaves his wife, Evelyn Meers of Biloxi; five daughters, Linda M. Cushman of Biloxi, Dana White of Lumberton, Mississippi, Charleen Thornton of Martin, Vicki Henley of Biloxi, and Debra Ratliff of Springfield, Missouri; a son, Sidney Meers of Newport News, Virginia; thirteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Mr. Meers was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Marines. He was a member of the Rodenburg Church of Christ in Biloxi.

William David Stewart
William David Stewart, 64, of Dresden, died Tuesday, May 25, 2006, at his home. Graveside services for Mr. Stewart were held Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery near Palmersville. Bro. Corey Sawyers officiated the services. Mr. Stewart was a home repairer. He was born in Bradford and preceded in death by his father, James Caldwell Stewart. In addition to his father, Mr. Stewart was also preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Melton. Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sandra Kay McClain Stewart of Redding, California; a daughter, Shahna Airoldi of Pasco, Washington; a son, David Stewart of Redding, California; his mother, Mrs. Lorine Stewart of Sharon; a sister, Betty Sue Ary of Sharon; two brothers, Bobby Stewart of Chicago, Illinois, and Jon Dirkans of Chicago, Illinois; and seven grandchildren.

Annie Mae Johnson
Annie Mae Johnson, 87, died Saturday, June 10, 2006. Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were held at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Johnson; a brother, Leonard Trosper; daughter-in-law, Joan J. Johnson; and a grandson, Seth A. Page. Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons, James Marlin Johnson of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, and Herbert Allen Johnson of Charlotte; two daughters, Phyllis Ann (Jim) Davison of Eaton Rapids, and Judy Mae Page of Lansing; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Modean Berryhill of Grand Ledge, and Fay Gray of Eaton Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

Annie Sue King
Annie Sue King, 91, of Martin, died Monday, June 19, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. Funeral services for Mrs. King were held Saturday, June 24, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Larry Washburn officiated the services. Mrs. King was born June 12, 1915 in Jackson, Tennessee and was a graduate of Alamo High School. She lived in Alamo until she met her husband, Lloyd, and they moved to Henderson and lived there until moving to Dresden for a few years. Mrs. King has two undergraduate degrees, one in secondary Education and one in Library Science from George Peabody College in Nashville. She received her Masters in Library Science after moving to Martin in the mid 1940s. She attended UT Martin and was a graduate of UT Martin in Secondary Education in 1945. She later received two more Masters from UT Martin in the 50s and 60s. Mrs. King taught and was a Librarian at Martin High School and Westview High School for over 35 years and was the Yearbook Sponsor for most of those years. She was a member of Tennessee Retired Teachers, Order of Eastern Star, and the First Baptist Church in Martin. Mrs. King was preceded in death by her parents, William Wynns and Annie Lewis Wynns; her husband of over 60 years, Lloyd A. King, who was a professor at UT Martin and a former principal of Dresden High School. Mrs. King is survived by a son, Lloyd D. King and wife, Robin, of Hoover, Alabama; and three grandchildren, Lloyd Brandon King of Hoover, Alabama, Todd David King of Hoover,Alabama, and Taylor Ann King of Hoover, Alabama.

Harold D. Johnson
Harold D. Johnson, 79, of Martin, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris. Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Mr. Webb Hall will officiate the services. Mr. Johnson was an educator/former teacher in the Obion County School System and former Director of Vocational Education in Obion County. He attended Martin High School and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee Junior College and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Martin Church of Christ. He was born March 22, 1927 in Martin to the late H.D. Johnson and Annie Kathryn Scates Johnson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was also preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Ann Johnson; and two sisters, Marion Crouch and Cathryn Mashburn. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Helen Pilla Johnson of Martin; three sons, Stan (Didi) Johnson of Martin, Hal (Lisa) Johnson of Knoxville, and John (Melanie) Johnson of Dresden; stepchildren, Cindy (David) Crittendon of Alberton, Montana, Sam Pilla of Dresden, and Floyd (Debbie) Pilla of Dresden; a sister, Carolyn Whaley of Henderson; four grandchildren, Lauren Johnson Sims of Nashville, Kara Johnson Snider of Nashville, Meredith Johnson of Dresden, and Jared Johnson of Knoxville; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Jerry Lee Box
Jerry Lee Box, 76, of Greenfield, died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Jackson Madison County Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Box were held Sunday, June 25, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Morris Cemetery in Greenfield. Dr. Roy Whaley officiated the services. Mr. Box worked for B&R Gear. He was born September 4, 1929 in Sharon to the late Wilburn Box and Mirler Jones. In addition to his parents, Mr. Box was also preceded in death by his wife, Ann Box. Mr. Box is survived by three sons, Jeral Box of Greenfield, Dave Box of Milan, and Tom Box of Greenfield; two brothers, Ed Box of Greenfield, and Ray Box of Cookeville, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
