John Gordon
MILAN-John Overton Gordon, 88, retired MAAP employee, died Saturday at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, a member of First Baptist Church of Milan and a member of the Wylie Brewer Sunday School class. Mr. Gordon, the widower of Mildred Webb Gordon, leaves a son, Doug Gordon of Milan; a daughter, Carol Heath of Florida, 11 grandchildren, Leianne, Lucinda, Mike & Tim McClure, John, Scott & Ryan Heath, Jason & Nathan Cross and Laura & Megan Gordon and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Marilyn McClure and Linda Cross. Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor’s choice.

MILAN-Carolyn Virginia Blackmon Blackshire, 83, homemaker, died March 28, at NHC Healthcare. Graveside services were March 29, at Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Blackshire, the widow of H.C. "Bill" Blackshire, leaves a son, Jim Luckey of Collierville; a daughter, Judy Jones of Martin, 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. James Moore
TRENTON-Funeral services for James W. Moore, 82, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with burial in Whitehall Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Moore, a retired foreman for General Motor Co., died Saturday at Milan Hospital. He was a member of Whitehall Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, a Director of Sunday School, and a Sunday School teacher, a 50 year Mason, an Army veteran of WWII serving in the South Pacific in numerous battles. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by a son, James Lynn Moore, and his parents, Boyd and Effie Dunning Moore. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Moore; a daughter, Vicky Mathews of Morris, IL; two grandsons, Steve & Kevin Mathews; two great-granddaughters, Holly & Marcie Mathews, and a brother, Jerrel Moore of Bradford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Whitehall Baptist Church building fund.

She leaves her husband, Bud Rodgers; three sons, Stevie Pruett & wife Bettye, Mike Rodgers & wife Tracy, and Cary Wayne Rodgers and wife Karen; four sisters, June Cathey, Doris Savers, Frances Parker and Katie Baker; a brother, Jack Petty; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jessie Petty and her parents, Jessie and Grace Shelton Petty.

Vivian Hamilton
HUMBOLDT-Services for Vivian F. Hamilton Estes, 88, were Sunday at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. She died Thursday at Humboldt General Hospital after a short illness. She was a long time member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Humboldt, where she served as elder, Sunday school teacher and was an active member of the CPW. She is survived by a son, James Bond (Jack) Estes Jr. and wife Martha and grandson Jon Blanton Estes of Humboldt and three sisters, Mary Lynn Downey of Milan, Martha Jo Stoltz of Medina and Betty Ann Strayhorn of Dyersburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James B. Estes Sr.; a brother, Rene S. Hamilton and a very special niece, Patsy Hamilton Weatherly. Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home had charge.

Essery Gurley
SCOTTS HILL-Funeral services for Essery L. Gurley, 86, were Friday at Reed's Chapel in Scotts Hill. Burial was in the Doe Creek Cemetery. Mr. Gurley died Tuesday night at the Decatur Co. Hospital after a life long battle with polio. He was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ in Scotts Hill. He is survived by a sister, Zena Gurley Western of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Kennedy Gurley; his father, Jess Gurley and several siblings, Voist, Gova, Bob and Boyd Gurley.

Dwayne Williamson
MILAN-Dwayne Williamson died October 5, at Milan Hospital. He was born to the late Leroy and Carrie Williamson on August 12, 1936. He completed his education in Milan and joined the Navy, where he served his country faithfully until his retirement in 1974. He also retired from Eaton Axle in Humboldt. He became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church at an early age and was faithful until his health failed him. He was an active member of Caldonia Lodge #79 in McKenzie and Zarah Temple 151 in Jackson. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, six sisters and seven brothers. He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Blanche Williamson; a sister, Verline Williamson of Milan; a brother, Leroy Williamson of Gary, IN and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mitchell, leaves a son, Paul David Mitchell of Dickson; two brothers, Bill Pratt of Bradford and Weldon Pratt of Decaturville; two sisters, Ruby Goff of Milan and Bertha Tutten of Decaturville; a granddaughter, Gina Carol Gross of Springhill and a great-granddaughter, Shelby Nichole Graves of Springhill.

Carl Rawdon
Carl M. Rawdon, 91, of Lake Station, IN, formerly of Gibson County, died Sunday. Married October 22, 1949, Carl leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, Lillie B. Rawdon; loving nephews: David Rawdon of Griffith and Charles (Sandy) Rawdon of Portage; 4 special great-nieces, Kayla, Ashley, Brittany and Megan; caring sister-in-law: Juanita Schau of Hobart. He was the treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews in Tennessee. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Lee Grant and Edna (Ary) Rawdon, Ellis Rawdon, Clair Rawdon, James Rawdon, Wilfred Rawdon, Billy Rawdon, and Grace Rawdon. Carl was a faithful, serving member of the Church of Christ in Lake Station, a retiree from the Anderson Company, and a Navy veteran of WWII. Carl is most remembered for his sense of humor, his war stories, his creative ability and his example of a loving husband and friend. Services are Thursday at 10 a.m. at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Trenton.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Atwood. Mr. Jackson, the husband of Margaret L. Jackson, also leaves a son, James D. Jackson and wife Kay of Martin; a daughter, Linda Martin and husband Danny of Atwood; a brother, Robert Guy Jackson of Chowchilla, CA, 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
