Sterling Everett Bailey, 87, of Halls, died April 24 at home. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church since 1930 and was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company of America after 36 years of service. He was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy Donovan Bailey; sisters, Eva Bailey, Trula Jones and Velma Radford. Barbara Hansard Smith, 70, of Halls, died April 26 at St. Mary’s Residential Hospice after a long battle with cancer. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Smith. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Kenneth Waggoner; sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Vicky Smith and Steve and Pam Smith; mother, Helen Hansard, all of Halls. James William "Jay" Floyd, 79, of Dallas, formerly of Knoxville, died April 5. He was a Baptist and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII, where he received the Purple Heart, Soldiers Medal and Bronze Star. Curtis Nelson Overton, 82, of Cary, N.C., former longtime resident of Knoxville, died April 8 in Durham, N.C.
