Charles Lipscomb
ELKHART, INDIANA-Charles Lipscomb, 65, died October 10, at Elkhart General Hospital. Services were October 14, at Agape Missionary Baptist Church in Elkhart, IN, where he was a member. Charles was born in Milan, TN on November 1, 1940 to Vice Ann McVay and Robert Lipscomb, Sr. He was a graduate of Gibson County Training School and attended Lane College. He retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation in 2000. Mr. Lipscomb, the widower of Wavel U. Mitchell, leaves two daughters, Wanda Lipscomb of Atlanta, GA and Tara Lipscomb of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers, Robert Lipscomb, Jr. and Leroy Robinson; kindred son, Claydell (Tina) Robinson; sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Danner and his companion, Doris Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Lipscomb.

Bubba Fields
MILAN-Funeral services for Dr. Robert Eugene “Bubba” Fields, 80, were Saturday at the Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. David LeNeave officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. He passed away Wednesday at his home after a long illness. Dr. Fields was born on October 18, 1926 to the late Dr. E.O. and Mildred G. Fields. He was a lifetime member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Milan, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was a member of the Good Samaritan Sunday School class. He will be remembered as an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Dr. Fields graduated from Milan High School, where he played on the 1943 championship football team. He attended UT Junior College in Martin and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He transferred to and graduated from Memphis State University. He was a member of the MSU varsity tennis team. After serving in WWII in the Navy, Dr. Fields entered the University of Tennessee Dental School. After graduating, he began his dental career with his father until his retirement in 2001. Dr. Fields was a member of many dental organizations. Dr. Fields was a charter member of the Milan Golf and Country Club, Lions Club, and Rotary Club. He was also a past director of the Milan Banking Company, Chamber of Commerce and involved with the local Boy Scouts of America. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Doug Fields; a twin sister, Mary Alice “Sis” Koelz, and a brother, Dr. Jimmy Fields. Dr. Fields is survived by his wife, Sarah Fields; a daughter, Mitzi Wallace; a son, Dr. Bob Fields (Cindy); and grandsons, Brad and Chad Creswell and Rob Fields of Milan. Memorials may be made to the Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the Mildred G. Fields Library. Bodkin Funeral Home had charge.

Hershell Gordon
ATWOOD-CW2 Hershell Wade Gordon, 68, retired Chief Warrent Officer in the Army, died Wednesday at his home. Services were Monday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with burial in Double Springs Cemetery. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4780, a member of the American Legion Post 118 and a national member of the D.A.V. Mr. Gordon, the husband of Louise Gordon, also leaves three sons, Wade Gordon Jr. of Tucson, AZ, James Allen Gordon of Lillian, AL and Billy Gene Gordon of Knoxville; a step-son, William Dennis Largent of Buffalo, TX; two step-daughters, Phorcia Lynn Cauhron of Reno, NV and Linda Louise Clark of Farmington, NM; a brother, Harold Gordon of Milan; two sisters, Sue Padilla of El Paso, TX and Elaine Carroll of Albuquerque, NM, 28 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Thomas Wayne Largent. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Assn. or First United Methodist Church, Milan.

Roy Branham
MILAN-Roy Wayne Branham, 49, machine operator at Emerson Electric Company, died October 14, at  Jackson General Hospital. Services were October 18, at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial in Gibson County Memory Gardens. Mr. Branham, the husband of Lee Ann Branham, also leaves three sons, Kevin Wayne Branham and Scottie Andrew Branham, both of Milan, and Clayton Drake Branham of Gibson; a step-daughter, Dana Leigh Sliter, a brother, James Branham and two sisters, Sue Pulley and Brenda Kinkade, all of Milan and 8 grandchildren.

Wesley McCaskill
ATWOOD-Funeral services for Wesley Robert McCaskill, Sr., 63, were Thursday at Replogle-Lawrence Funeral Home. Burial was in Carroll Memorial Gardens in Huntingdon. He was born in Gibson County and was educated in the county schools. He was the son of the late Wilburn Lafayette McCaskill and Mable Pruette. A former member of Antioch Baptist Church for many years, and now a member of Howse Baptist Church in Atwood. He died October 17, at his home in Atwood after a long illness. He worked for Martin Paving Company in Medina for many years and later retired from Pyles Paving Company in Medina. He served in the United States Coast Guard. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Frances Jean Rummage McCaskill; two daughters, Janice Ann Bass of Bradford and Mary Frances Hayes of Bradford; two sons, Wesley Robert McCaskill, Jr. of McKenzie and Gary Don McCaskill of Atwood; four sisters, Marie Sowell of Oakfield, Mary Martha Little of Trenton, Joyce Mehlin of Arizona and Frances Grooms of Gadsden; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

SKULLBONE-Milo Burdict Fitzgerald, 40, died October 17, at Milan General Hospital. Services were October 20, at Roberts Funeral Home in Rutherford with burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Mr. Fitzgerald leaves his parents, Sarah Ann Fitzgerald and Milas Edward Fitzgerald of Kenton; a son, Milas Mace Fitzgerald, a daughter,  Taylor Hill and his fiance, Lisa Franklin, all of Milan; a sister, Beverly Harris of Lombard, IL; three brothers, Porter Ray Smith of Plainfield, IL, William Smith of Martin and Milas Edward Fitzgerald III of Fulton, KY.

Virginia Carswell
Virginia (Gina) Carswell, age 83, of Buford, GA died September 22. She is survived by: Children-Susan and Jim Hurdis, Apex, N.C., Debra and Dash Roberts, Lawrenceville, GA; Grandchildren-Hunter and Polly Roberts, Glenn Allen, VA, Melanie and Bryan Smith, Concord, N.C., Matthew Allen Hurdis, Apex, N.C. and several Nieces and Nephews. Mrs. Carswell was a long time resident of Buford, she was a member of the Buford First United Methodist Church. She was an instructor at Hi-Hope Center in Lawrenceville, and taught Pre-School at Buford First United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Brenau College and a life member of the Girl Scouts. She was preceded in death by husband Elwin Carswell. Services were held September 24, at the Buford First United Methodist Church. Interment was in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens. Tapp/Tim Stewart Funeral Home and Crematory had charge.

Robert Waddell
MILAN-Robert Lee Waddell, 96, retired manager at Pat Joyner Exxon in Memphis, died Wednesday at Douglas Nursing Home. Graveside services were Saturday at White Rose Cemetery. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Memphis. Mr. Waddell, the husband of Lilah Goff Waddell, also leaves a son, Robert James Waddell of Gibson; a daughter, Barbara Ann Stachowiak of Hartford, WI, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Memphis, TN.

Mario E. Scileppi
Tallahasse, FL-Mario Edward Scileppi, 26, died suddenly on Wednesday, June 6. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 11, at Fellowship Baptist Church. Culley’s Meadow Wood Timberland Chapel handled the arrangements. He was a 1999 graduate of SAIL High School. Survivors include his mother, Mary J. Scileppi; a brother, Dominick Anthony (Megan) Scileppi; uncles and aunts, Bob (Monica) Floersch, Ron (Linda) Floersch and Richard (Dreama) Floersch; and numerous cousins and their families.

MILAN-Era Ophelia Scott, 82, retired Milan Golf & Country Club employee, died Saturday at Milan General Hospital. Graveside services were Monday at Gibson County Memory Gardens. Ms. Scott, the widow of Robert Scott, leaves four sons, Daniel Houston Hopper of Trezevant, James Dean Hopper of Fayetteville, NC, Benny Duwane Hopper of Nashville and Thomas Lynn Hopper of Milan; a dear friend, Marion Combs of Milan and 8 grandchildren, Terrace, Mike, Mark, Debbie, Amber, Mallory, Joshua and Jessica. Ms. Era was loved by many and will truly be missed.

DYER-Funeral services for Richard Lane Kirkpatrick, 57, were Friday at Shelton Funeral Home with burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Mr. Kirkpatrick died June 11, at Gibson General Hospital in Trenton. He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Kirkpatrick. He is survived by a daughter, Dawn Turner of Milan; his mother, Billie Kirkpatrick of Westland, MI; and a grandson, Noah Turner of Milan.

MILAN-Harold Wayne Clenney, 53, died June 12, at his home. Graveside services were June 15, at Oakwood Cemetery. He was a member of Milan United Pentecostal Church. Mr. Clenney leaves his father, Thomas Clenney of Milan; a daughter, Kim Clenney of Atwood; five brothers, Edward Clenney of Bradford, Robert Clenney, Hollis Clenney and Paul Clenney, all of Milan, and Steven Clenney of Trenton; two sisters, Becky Hallman of Bradford and Thelma Clenney of Milan and a granddaughter, Summer Vestal of Atwood. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
