LAUDERDALE COUNTY, TENNESSEE DEATH NOTICES FROM 2003

Mary Ruth Warwick Tapp, 91, of Fountain City, died April 7 at her home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Knoxville and was the widow of Howard H. Tapp, former owner of Tapp Optical Dispensary. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Gene Bryson, Carol and Charles Lytle; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jeanne Tapp; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Gentry-Griffey Chapel.

Alma E. Tindell, 80, of Fountain City, died April 5 at UT Medical Center. She was a longtime member of City View Baptist Church, and is survived by daughter, Sandra D. Martin; grandson and wife, Curt and Heather Martin; two great-granddaughters. Mynatt’s.

Jennie Carter Black, 84, of Fountain City, died March 15. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City. In her retirement, she had traveled extensively with her late husband, Jack F. Black. Rose Mortuary.

Maude Jane Jones Breeding, 90, of Fountain City, died March 9 at St. Mary’s. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City and was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Wayne Breeding. She is survived by two daughters, a son and others. Gentry-Griffey.

Monroe Collins, 66, of Corryton, died March 7 at Baptist Hospital. He was retired from Rohel Construction Co. after 49 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Collins. McCarty Mortuary.

Kenneth L. "Porky" Dyer, 66, of Luttrell, died March 7 at his home. He was a member and deacon of Fairview Baptist Church and was retired from ASARCO. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Watson Dyer, and others. Ailor Mortuary.

Clyde Eugene Fleming, 85, of Knoxville, died March 10 at St. Mary’s. He was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church, the Burlington Lodge and the Christian Motorcyclist Association. Survivors include his wife, Helen Hatcher Fleming. Stevens.

Vera Brock Harris, 75, died March 7 at her home in Jamestown. She was a member of Halls Presbyterian Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks Harris. Mynatt’s.

Ina Louise Henry, 62, of Kodak, died March 9 at Baptist Hospital. She was a member of Paw Paw Hollow Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Billy Ray Henry. Farrar Funeral Home.

Fred H. Holloway, 71, Sharps Chapel, died March 7 at Ft. Sanders. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie Holloway. Cooke Mortuary.

Betty Pap Jones, 54, of Maynardville, died March 8 at St. Mary’s. She was an employee of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include her husband, Frankie Jones, and others. Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel.

Wiley Blount "Buddy" Jones II, 81, of Knoxville, died March 12. He is survived by his wife, Ruth "Footsie" Woods Jones; sons and daughters-in-law, Wiley B. and Shirley Jones and Steve and Brenda Jones. Mynatt’s.

Hazel W. Kennard, 90, of Fountain City, died March 9. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Kennard. Graveside services were held at Greenwood Cemetery.

Katherine E. Kidwell, 85, died March 10 at Hillcrest West. She was a member of West Haven Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert "Peanut" Kidwell. Weaver Funeral Home.

John C. McCulley, 80, of Powell, died March 11 at St. Mary’s. He was a World War II veteran who leaves eight children among his survivors.

The Rev. Tommy E. Norris, of Heiskell, died March 11 at St. Mary’s. He was retired from Standard Knitting Mills with 33 years of service, and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mabel McBee Norris. Ailor Mortuary.

Bryce A. Petree, 67, of Knoxville, died March 6 at UT Medical Center. He was a member of the Christian faith. Gentry-Griffey Chapel.

Elizabeth Ann Wyrick Powell, 53, of Corryton, died March 14 at Sunbridge Healthcare, Maynardville. She was of the Baptist faith, and was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Powell. Cooke Mortuary.

Eunice M. Ramey, 97, of Powell, died March 8. She was a longtime member of Sharon Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, William C. "Bill" Ramey, and daughter, Pat McMahan. Survivors include daughters, Joyce Wells of Halls, Betty L. Dowden of Powell and Billie J. Bedwell and husband, Robert, of Knoxville; son, Frank R. Ramey and wife, Ruby, of Lake City, Ga. Mynatt’s.

Ernest T. Ramsey, 69, of Corryton, died March 8 at St. Mary’s. He is survived by his wife, Julia Ramsey, and others. Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel.

William C. "Bill" Ridenour, 78, of Maynardville, died March 14 at his home. He was a World War II veteran and a member of Texas Valley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Adna, and daughter, Cynthia Ridenour. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Irwin Ridenour, two daughters and a son. Ailor Mortuary.

Glen I. Russell, 64, of Claxton, died March 9 at the Windwood Health Care Center. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Irene Irwin Russell, and daughter, Vicky Sue Russell. Woodhaven Funeral Home.

Mark Alan Smith, 47, of Halls, died March 13 at St. Mary’s Hospice. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his mother, Leah Gauthier, father and stepmother, Herbert and Sylvia Smith, and others. Mynatt’s.

Ben C. Walker, 74, of Halls, died March 8 at St. Mary’s Hospice. He was a 43-year member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and a retired employee of Huttig Sash and Door Co. He is survived by his wife, Merle Bundon Walker, and daughter, Sylvia Walker. Mynatt’s.

Lester William Walker, 41, of Oliver Springs, died March 9 at Methodist Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Duncan Walker; daughters, April Dawn Walker of Halls, and Teresa Walker of Knoxville; son, Travis Walker of Knoxville, and others. Evergreen Chapel and Memorial Gardens.

Boyd E. Wood, 85, of Luttrell, died March 6 at his home. He was a decorated veteran of WWII, and was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Wood. Ailor Mortuary.

Sallie Sherman Wright, 97, of Knoxville, died March 10 at St. Mary’s. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by husband, Thompson Wright. Rose Mortuary.
