Janet Bryson Myers, 46, of Knoxville, died suddenly at her home Aug. 6. She was a lifelong Christian and graduated from Clinton High School and Walters State Community College. She was an LPN at Children’s Hospital for seven years, then a stay-at-home mom. Recently she resumed work at Hillcrest Nursing Home. Survivors include husband, the Rev. Shirley Trent Needham, 82, of Maynardville died Aug. 10 at St. Mary’s Hospice. He was a lifelong Union County resident and a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and usher. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium under Gen. George S. Patton, having received the Purple Heart. He served as Union County Selective Service Clerk for almost 30 years and was the owner and operator of Union Laundry and Dry Cleaners. He was a member of J.C. Baker Masonic Lodge and DAV Chapter 24. Mr. Needham served on the board of directors for Union Farmers Cooperative and Fairfield Glades Resorts. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Otha Monroe Needham; daughter and son-in-law, Shirlene and H.E. Jesse Edward "Shorty" Robertson, 87, died Aug. 9 at St. Mary’s Residential Hospice. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was retired from Rohm and Haas with 36 years of service. William Jeffrey Wilson, 47, of Heiskell, died Aug. 9 at Fort Sanders. He was the founder and co-owner of WWC Masonry and was of the Baptist faith. Elmer Eugene "Gene" Berney Jr., 70, of Heiskell, passed away Oct. 5. He was a descendant of Knoxville’s Swiss Colony and was a member of Fairview Freewill Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board and was choir director for 38 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked for Armour & Co. for 25 years and for East Tennessee Packing Company. He was an excavating contractor before retiring. Irene Brown, 102, of Powell, passed away Oct. 8 at NHC St. Mary’s. She was a lifelong member of Powell United Methodist Church where she taught the nursery class for 50 years. Thomas Dexter Monroe, 69, of Luttrell, died Oct. 10. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He retired from the U.S. Department of Commerce in 1989 after 31 years of working in the Agriculture Census. Bobby Kenneth Washam, 70, of Luttrell, passed away Oct. 7 at St. Mary’s. He was a faithful member of Mountain View Church of God of the Union Assembly, and a retired employee of Silvers Furniture with 42 years of service. He was also a brick and stone mason. Bobby was a very talented musician with the fiddle and guitar and had his own country music band in the 1960s and ’70s, the original Bobby Washam and the Union County Ramblers. Clemmie Eugene Worley, 72, of Licking, Mo., formerly of Loudon, Hendersonville and Halls, passed away Oct. 9 at Texas County Memorial Hospital. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, Korean Conflict, and was retired from Aetna Insurance Co. Former employee of Viskase Corp. Following retirement, Mr. Worley was living his dream as a farmer in Missouri. Lance Corporal James Dustin "Dusty" McManus, 20, of Halls died Dec. 23 as a result of an automobile accident.
