Kenneth Kymball Greene, 73, of Knoxville, died March 23 at St. Mary’s. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Tennessee Bankers Association and was affiliated with Fountain City Bank, First Tennessee Bank and retired as vice president of First State Bank. June Flatford, 66, of Corryton, died March 22 at St. Mary’s. She was an employee of Gibbs Elementary School in food service and was retired from Silver Manufacturing. Thomas Blaine "Junior" McGill, 75, of Sevierville, died March 26. He was a farmer and sold fruit and vegetables at a roadside stand. Col. Russell A. Newman, 73, of Knoxville, died March 22. He was born in Knoxville and graduated from UT in 1953. His military career ranged from staff to command positions as platoon leader through regimental commander. He was the first regimental commander of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) in Knoxville. After retiring from the military in June 1985, with nearly 32 years of service, Col. Newman joined the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA). He was named the first director of the East Tennessee region. He retired from that post in March 1999. Col. Newman is a past president of the National Guard Association of Tennessee and has served numerous public service organizations, the last being on the board of directors of Goodwill Industries and the Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad. Col. Newman is survived by his son, Sgt. James William "Bill" Roehl, 76, of Jacksboro, died March 17 at Baptist Hospital. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. In 1980, he retired from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency after 25 years.
