George Albert “G.A.” Burton, 81, of Corryton, passed away Nov. 5. Member of Corryton Baptist Church, U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Lorn James Chesney, 87, of Corryton, passed away Nov. 11. Member of Highland Baptist Church and retired from Standard Knitting Mills. preceded in death by wife, Bessie Hayes Chesney. Dan W. Faulkner, 86, passed away Nov. 8. Member of North Hills Baptist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason in Burlington Lodge #763 F&AM, and a member of the Knoxville Scottish Rite Bodies. preceded in death by his brother, Clyde and granddaughter, Chasity Lane. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Katherine; daughters Rhoda Shiflet, Teresa Larson, Pam Widby; son , Dan Faulkner, Jr.; and their families; and sister, Mildred Mathes. Alma E. Kitts Gaines, 84, of Luttrell, passed away Nov. 3. Member of Fellowship Christian Church in Luttrell. preceded in death by husband, Golden Gaines. Survivors include daughters, Charlotte Wilkerson, Myrna Hopper, Shelia Loy and their families; sister, Reba Davis Williams. Ailor Mortuary.

Helen Louise “Mom” Gatlin, 83, passed away Nov. 9. She was of the Baptist faith, and was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Gatlin. Survivors include sons, Cary and Rick Gatlin; daughter, Shelia McMahan, and their families; brothers, Curtis and Ed Williams; sisters, Lorraine King, Nelle Sparks and Margaret Beckner. Irene Seelig Howells, 85, formerly of Fountain City, died Nov. 9. She graduated from Central High School, then obtained a nursing degree from UT and went on to become one to the first flight attendants at Delta Air Lines. preceded in death by husbands, Walter J. Seelig II and Phillip Howells. Former member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. Nancy Evelyn Welch, 94, a resident of the Holston Hills community for more than 50 years and daughter of the late William Thomas and Flora Ellen Richardson Welch of Fountain City, died Nov. 8. She graduated from UT and was one of the first women commissioned officers in the U.S. Navy. She worked for TVA and was a member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville. Forrest Ward Childers, 85, of Fountain City, passed away Nov. 5. He was retired from C&C Trucking Co. of Kentucky and a veteran of the U.S. Army in WWII. Clyde E. Hale, 88, passed away Oct. 25. Member of Black Oak Ridge Baptist Church. preceded in death by first wife, Zola Byrd Hale. Merl T. “Rabbit” Haire, 79, passed away Nov. 4. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Hawaii and Japan and retired from Texaco after 32 years as a tanker driver. In 1971, he won the Texaco Rodeo (a tanker driver competition) in Nashville and Stone Mountain, Ga., to earn a trip to Las Vegas. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruby Brown Haire; son, Terry L.
