Leanne Marie Baker, 55, died at her home July 26. She was director of care manager and auxiliary services at Parkwest Hospital. In 2003, Parkwest established the “Leanne Baker Professional Nurse Award” to be given annually to recognize registered nurses and their significant contributions to raising the professional standards in nursing, The award is modeled after the many outstanding qualities Leanne Baker represents: Caring for the vulnerable, a continuing commitment to quality, and a dedication to instilling trust and promoting teamwork in all aspects of healthcare. George Gordon Bonnyman, 84, died July 30. He served in WWII, winning several citations and awards. He served as president of Blue Diamond Coal Co. and director of the National Coal Association. Iva A. Willocks Bridges, 88, of Karns, passed away July 26 at the family home. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church since 1935 where she taught the Card Class for a number of years. When Iva was 16 years old her mother, Della Jane, passed away and she had the responsibility of helping her father care for her two younger sisters and doing the household chores. In 1945, Clyde and Iva moved back to Knox County from Trenton, Mich., where they bought a farm on Carpenter Road and reared their six children. In 1986 her second son, Cecil, passed away. In 1991, Clyde, her husband of 59 years, passed away. Later that same year, in November her first son, Leon, passed away. Iva continued to live at the family home on Carpenter Road where she enjoyed her flowers and four children. Iva was a giving compassionate person who delighted in helping others. She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Ray and Linda Bridges, Karns; Glenn and Trudy Bridges, Pittsburgh, Pa.; daughters and son-in-law, Shirley Baker, Mary Lou and David Coffey; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Willocks Edington and Mildred Willocks Lane; special friend, Dorothy Huskins; five nieces.
