Bonnie Sellers Reid, 86, of Knoxville, passed away Feb. 20 at UT Medical Center. Zelma Ruth Williams, 82, of North Knoxville, died Feb. 16 following a brief illness. She was a longtime member of Lonsdale Baptist Church and more recently a member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville. JoAnn “Jody” Adams Lett Wilson, 68 of Knoxville, passed away Feb. 15 at St. Mary’s. She was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Dr. Mark D. Bringhurst, 79, of Knoxville passed away July 18 at St .Mary’s. He was affiliated with Lake Hills Presbyterian Church and a member of Holston Hills Country Club. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist’s mate during World War II. He graduated from the University of Utah with a PhD in immunology. Dr. Bringhurst was instrumental in the development of several lifesaving vaccines. His medical knowledge created the successes of Plasma Alliance of Knoxville. Helen Giffen Dickson, sister of Fountain City resident Lowell Giffen, passed away July 15 at age 88. A UT graduate, Mrs. Dickson taught school in Knox and Blount counties. Warren C. Shipley, 83, passed away Saturday at his home. He believed the Church of God faith and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII. Retired as a master mechanic from Sears. Sarah Elizabeth McHorris Simpson passed away July 18 at Vanderbilt University Hospital from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. She received her bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University and her master’s degree from UT. Her 42 year career in education included teaching at Halls High School, the positions of Language Arts Supervisor and Director of Instruction as well as service as Assistant Superintendent of Knox County Schools until her retirement in January 2004. She was a member of Washington Pike United Methodist Church. Mrs. Simpson’s community involvement included Leadership Knoxville, American Red Cross board, Child & Family Service board and Project GRAD Task Force. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. “Doc” Simpson. Michael Dell Williams, 29, of Fountain City, died July 21 after a courageous 19-month battle with cancer. Michael was born in Springfield, Mo., and moved here at the age of two. He attended Brickey and Shannondale Elementary schools, Gresham Middle and Central High Schools, Maryville College and Pellissippi State. Michael was a member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, where he was an enthusiastic participant in youth and choir activities. He was a five-year member of Chapel Choir, and also sang in the outstanding vocal group, “Love Incorporated.” He loved to play football and was a three-year letterman on the Central High School Bobcats and a team co-captain in 1992. He earned All Knoxville Football League honors, received All-District honors for two years and was named winner of the Scholarship/Athlete superlative in his senior year. Michael lettered each of the two years he played football at Maryville College. Lylah J. Rollins Boruff, 94, passed away July 12. She was a longtime member of Smithwood Baptist Church and OES No. 463. She was preceded in death by husband, Luna L. Boruff. She was a beautician and owner of Boruff’s Beauty Shop of Fountain City. She was very active in the Fountain City community and loved playing golf and gardening.
