James Etheridge Gowan, 87, retired machinist for Milco Manufacturing died Wednesday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Services were Friday at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial in Hopewell Cemetery. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Gowan, the husband of Lucille Johnson Gowan, also leaves a sister, Annie Mae Arrington of Huntingdon, and a brother, Jodie Gowan of Atwood.

Curtis Lee Newbill
Services for Curtis Lee Newbill, 41, were held last Friday at Little Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. He died Saturday at Milan General Hospital. He married Sharon Woodson in 1985. He leaves her, a set of twins, Lezka of Nashville and Kizke Woodson of Chattanooga, Dion Woodson of Milan; daughter, Latoria Randolph and granddaughter Kadaza Starr, both of Little Grove, TN; his mother, Artie Mae Newbill of Little Grove; his father, Aurthur Lee Barham of St. Louis; brothers, Barry and Bobby Barham of St. Louis; a sister, Tracey Barham of Alabama; brother, Bryson Beard of Little Grove; four sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law; God sister, Diane Scott and God brother, James B. Porter, and a host of aunts and uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

Mr. Watts was the husband of Doris Watts.

Robert ‘Doc’ Bryant
TIPTONVILLE– Services for Dr. Robert Erwin Bryant, 80, were held Monday, at the Tiptonville First United Methodist Church. Burial was in the City Cemetery with J.W. Curry and Son Funeral Home in charge.
Dr. Bryant, an optometrist, died Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Methodist-LeBonheur Healthcare in Dyersburg.
He was born in Milan, and was a member of Milan West Plains Primitive Baptist Church. Elder T.L. Webb helped officiate funeral services.
Dr Bryant retired from his optometry profession in 1993, after fifty years of practice in Tiptonville. Before beginning his practice, he served in the United States Army, after being drafted in 1943. He served his country as an ambulance driver, engineer and foot soldier. He began his European tour of duty in 1945 where he served till the end of the war.
He was a graduate of Tiptonville High School and the Southern College of Optometry at Memphis. He was the past president of the West Tennessee Optometric Assoc. and a past president of the Tiptonville Kiwanis Club.
He was born in Milan, June 16, 1922, to the late B.D. and Eulah Cunningham Bryant, who moved their family to Tiptonville in 1927. He leaves his wife, Martha Alexander Bryant, a twin brother Charles Edwin Bryant, a niece Lynne Ayers, a nephew Andy Andrews of Brentwood, TN, 5 great nephews and one great niece.
Memorials may be sent to Tiptonville United Methodist Church or Milan West Plains Primitive Baptist Church.

Services were Friday at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial in Double Springs Cemetery. She was a former secretary of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class at Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Montgomery, the widow of James A. ‘Bo-Bo’ Montgomery, leaves a sister, Dianne Morris of Brownsville; 6 nieces, Marsha Holmes of Milan, Sandra Beasley of Springville, Tammy Emerson of Brownsville, Donna Biggers, Jane Hogan and Ruth Phillips, all of Memphis; 4 nephews, Kenny Shaver and Larry Shaver, both of Humbolt, Phil Morris of Ripley and Robert Guy Blankenship of Memphis .
