Reva Huffaker LaForge, 88, a longtime resident of Garden Dr. in Fountain City, passed away March 5 in Hermitage, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Jack Huffaker, and second husband, Robert M. LaForge. She was a former member of Fountain City United Methodist Church, presently a member of Belmont United Methodist, Nashville. She was retired from State of Tennessee Health Department, Speech and Hearing. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Craig J. and Nancy Huffaker; grandson, Aaron J. Huffaker, stepsons John V. (Martha) LaForge, James M. (Ruth) LaForge; and friends Louise and Dave Redmond. Bill Burton Green Sr., 72, died Feb. 20 at St. Mary’s Hospice. He was retired after 30 years as a Marine having served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 10 years and was a longtime member of several civic organizations. He survived eight years after a heart transplant. Mr. Green was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by his son, Daniel James Green. Robert Clayton Hembree, 82, of Fountain City, passed away Feb. 20 at St. Mary’s Hospice. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps in WWII and a graduate of UT-Knoxville. He served as executive director of the Knoxville Housing Authority (now KCDC) for 19 years, vice president of Devel Corporation for five years, and manager of First Knox Utility District for 20 years. Mr. Hembree was a longtime member of Smithwood Baptist Church where services were held. Donna Kathleen McClellan, 49, of Sebastopol, Calif., died Feb. 21. She grew up in Burbank and moved to Knoxville in 1973. She married
Tommy McClellan in Santa Barbara. Donna traveled extensively and made friends throughout the US. She loved music, family, friends and her grandchildren. preceded in death by mother and father and husband, Tommy. Katie Edwards Reynolds, 99, of Fountain City, formerly of Shreveport, La., died Feb. 23 at Hillcrest North. She was a member of Smithwood Baptist Church. She worked as a bookkeeper until her marriage to Irvin R. Reynolds, after which she worked as a homemaker and participated in civic clubs and church activities. She was president of both the local and state PTA. She is survived by her daughter, the Rev. Kay Reynolds, with whom she lived after moving from Shreveport, and her nephew, the Rev. J. Lloyd Edwards of Columbia, S.C.
Mary Hisaye Scheliga, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away Feb. 22 at her family’s home in Powell. Her daughter and son-in-law are Paula and Brian Kearns of Powell. He is with Lighthouse Christian Church. Mrs. Scheliga was a certified engineer. She and her husband, the late Alfred Scheliga, worked together in the mapping industry until their retirement. Other survivors include grandchildren, Ethan Alfred Kearns and Hannah Kozaki Kearns; a son, Raymond Scheliga of Texas; his daughter, Ann Estelle Scheliga, and her mother, Beverly Scheliga; sister, Kim Weber. Newell M. Sharpe, 85, died Feb. 24 at his South Knoxville home. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and had retired from Exxon Corp. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII.
