Monnie Van Dyck
Alice Martha “Monnie” Frandsen Van Dyck, 93, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2014. Born Dec. 17, 1920 in Scotia, Nebraska, she moved with her family to Omaha where she attended Central Park Grade School and later graduated from North High School.
Monnie began studying the violin in grade school, becoming concertmistress of her high school orchestra, as well as playing in the Omaha Symphony as a high school student. She attended Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas for two years and then worked for the U.S. Civil Service in Omaha. As a member of the Civil Service, she took the opportunity to live and work in Whitehorse, Canada during the WWII building of the Alaska-Canadian Highway.In 1946,
Monnie married
John Thomas “Tom”Van Dyck, Jr. of the Van Dyke Community in Henry County.Her first teaching job in Henry County (1946-1948) was at Van Dyke School, a two-room schoolhouse. After raising herfamily and receiving a bachelor’s degree from Bethel University, she continued her teaching career, serving in the English Departments at Cottage Grove School and Henry County High School. In addition to her love of teaching, her love of music is her legacy.From the time she arrived in Henry County in 1946 until at age 87 when she put down her violin after Palm Sunday services, she played her viola and violin with other Paris musicians at churches, weddings, special events, and for several years with the Jackson Symphony.
Tom and Monnie were members of First Christian Church of Paris where Monnie taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years. After Tom’s death, she married
Ernie Goldstein of Paris. Sheenjoyed living in town, joining friends for lunch at Paulette’s, and reading a good book.Monnie is predeceased by parents, Mabel and Dr. Charles Frandsen; brothers, Robert and Herbert Frandsen; sister, Virginia Frandsen Van Dyck; daughter, Nancy Giles Van Dyck; Tom Van Dyck, and Ernie Goldstein. She is survived by sister, Elizabeth FrandsenSeitter; son, Dr. John Van Dyck, III (Lily); daughters, Susan Van Dyck (James Newcomb and his sons Bill and Nathaniel Newcomb), Betty Van Dyck (Charles Barnett), and Jane Van Dyck; and Ernie’s sons, Rusty and Sammy Goldstein. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Kelley Van Dyck Murphy (Jon), Thomas Van Dyck (Sarah), and Charles Van Dyck and five great-grandchildren: Tyler and Allison Van Dyck, and Isabel, Harris, and Elliot Murphy.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Loral Underwood, our surrogate sister in Paris, who helped keep Mom strong and to Ruby Evans who taught us how to take care of our mother.
A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive guests from 10:00-10:45 in the sanctuary and then immediately following the service. Memorial gifts may be sent to First Christian Church of Paris, Helping Hand of Paris, or World Cataract Foundation.
Mike Nichols
Michael Roger “Mike” Nichols, age 65, of Paris, Tenn., died Sunday, September 14, 2014, at Jackson Madison Co. Gen. Hosp. in Jackson, Tenn.
Mike was married
July 16, 1976 to Patricia Gale "Pat" Glover Nichols and she preceded in death April 10, 2003.
He was a member of Maplewood Baptist Church. He was a former Henry Co.Commissioner and was currently a Datebase Administrator for Bethel University in McKenzie, TN.
Mike was born April 9, 1949 in Lansing, MI to the late Larry Roger Nichols and the late Dorothy June McWherter Nichols.
He is survived by his One Daughter, April (Randy) Tanner of Paris, Tenn; Step Daughter, Sherry (Randy) Stone of Paris, Tenn; One Step Son, Mike(Dreama) Glover of Dresden, Tenn; One Sister, Elmarie (Larry) Dunlap of Paris, Tenn; Grandchildren, Danielle Doogan, Amanda Holt, Zack Stone, John Stone, Lexie Burnette, Alex Tanner, Brenen Glover, and Chase Glover; and Six Great Grandchildren.
Besides his Wife and Parents Mike was also preceded in death by a Daughter, Tina Marie Lee and Grandchild, Nick Hart.

Donald Watkins
Donald Watkins, Sr., age 70, of Versailles, Ky., formerly of Henry County, died Saturday, September 13, 2014, at Frankfort Regional Hospital in Frankfort, Ky.
He was a former Henry Co. TN resident and a retired Fed Ex truck driver.
Donald served in the US Army 101st Airbourne Division during Vietnam. He was a Life time member of the V.F.W. in Paris, TN and a member of the N.R.A.
Donald was born August 24, 1944 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Bernie Watkins and the late Florence Dilly Watkins.
He is survived by his One Daughter, Jennifer McCoy (Rick) Smith of Rockwood, Tenn; Two Sons, Donald "Donnie" Watkins, Jr. of Versailles, Ky, Jason Watkins of Versailles, Ky; One Sister, Shirley Takas of Toledo, Ohio; One Brother, Bernie Watkins, Jr. of Ohio; Four Grandchildren, David Gater, Daniel Sarver, Delayna Sarver, and Dalton Andrew Watkins; and his Former Wife, Martha Watkins of Paris, TN.
Besides his Parents, Donald was preceded in death by a Sister, Joyce Watkins and Brothers, David Watkins, and Paul Watkins.

Sissy Sowell
Virginia Ruth “Sissy” Sowell, age 86, of Paris, Tenn., died Saturday, September 13, 2014, at her residence in Paris, Tenn.
She was married
April 27, 1946 to William Marshall Sowell, and he survives.
Sissy was a member of the Apostolic Church in Paris, TN. She was a very loving family person that cared about her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
She was born November 18, 1927 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Luther Allen Briggs and the late Era Bunch Calvert Briggs.
Besides her husband, she is also survived by her Two Daughters, Mary (Jerry) Davis of Buchanan, Tenn, Denise (David) Bomar of Paris, Tenn, One Son, Mark (Sheila) Sowell of Buchanan, Tenn, One Sister, Nancy Christ of California; Four Brothers, Luther "Junior" (Wanda) Briggs of Paris, Tenn; Ray (Elaine) Briggs of North Carolina, Tommy (Paula) Briggs of California, Frank (Carolyn) Briggs of California; 9 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great Great Grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by a Son, Willy Sowell; Sisters, Dorothy DeLong, and Jackie Cooper; Brothers, Wesley Briggs, Doug Briggs, and Charles Briggs.

Bob Medlock
Ret. M/Sgt (USAF) Robert G. "Bob" Medlock, age 77, of Paris, Tenn., died Thursday, September 11, 2014, at Paris Healthcare and Rehab Center in Paris, Tenn.
He was married
January 26, 1958 to Sue Frances Wimberley Medlock and she survives.
Bob was a Retired Master Sgt. in the US Air Force with 22 years of service. He spent 11 years overseas, with 8 years in England, 1 year in Vietnam and 2 years in Korea. He was a member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was very active for many years. He was also a former Henry Co. Schools bus driver which he enjoyed very much. He was a former grocery store owner in Whitlock. Bob enjoyed going to church, visiting with his friends at McDonald's in the mornings and he enjoyed antiques and auctions.
Bob was born January 3, 1937 in Paris, TN to the late Glenwood Medlock and the late Eva Beatrice Redmon Medlock.
Besides his wife, he is also survived One Daughter, Yong Sue Medlock Dushlek of Paris, Tenn; One Son, Glen Dale (Annette) Medlock of Lake Charles, La; One Sister, Ann Medlock of Paris, Tenn; One Sister-in-Law, Helen Marie Farmer of Springville, TN; Two Grandchildren, Hailee Marie Dushlek of Paris, TN, and Jacob (Christina) Medlock of Lake Charles, LA; One Great Grandchild, Tanzie Medlock of Lake Charles, LA.; and Several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
Besides his Parents, Bob was also preceded in death by a Brother, James Murray Medlock; and In-Laws, Dennis and Mary Wimberley.

Joel Clark
William Joel Clark, age 74, of Paris, Tenn., died Saturday, September 6, 2014, at his residence in Paris, Tenn.
He was married
June 8, 1963 to Marilyn Ann Martin Clark and she survives.
Joel was a member of Oak Hill Union Church. He retired from Henry County School System as a teacher and basketball coach. He was a member of the Henry County Retired Teachers. Joel was a farmer, an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed his motorcycles.
He was born November 14, 1939 in Paris, TN to the late Robert Tompkins Clark and the late Estelle Madeline Underwood Clark.

Sue McClain
Sue McClain, age 86, of Paris, Tenn., died Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Paris Healthcare & Rehab Center in Paris, Tenn.
She was married
October 25, 1947 to Paul Franklin "Red" McClain he died September 23, 1996.
Sue was a member of East Wood Church of Christ and she was a self-employed seamstress for many years.
She was born June 1, 1928 in St. Louis, MO to the late Clyde Johnson Sterrett and the late Bertha Eva McFadden Adams.
She is survived by her Four Daughters, Ann (Dan) Patterson of Puryear, Tenn, Peggy Carrier of Salem, Ind, Paula (Gary) Odom of Paris, Tenn, Debbie Pace of Paris, Tenn; Two Sons, James (Kim) McClain of Puryear, Tenn, Dwayne McClain of Jackson, Tenn, Three Sisters, Dean Parker of Paris, Tenn, Bessie Guthrie Wynn of Muskegon, Mich, Bobbi Guthrie Kuhn of Shepherdsville, Ky; 9 Grandchildren, Gary Stephens, Todd Thurman, Cathy Fitzhugh, Molly Harris, Mandy Davidson, Clint Odom, Abby Martin, Audrey Horn, and Dalton McClain; Six Great Grandchildren, Barron Robinson, Ranger Robinson, Maverick Robinson, Jackson Harris, Collins Davidson, Everett Martin; and Several Nieces and Nephews.
