HORTON, MR. DAVID ALLEN, (July 24, 2004 – January 31, 2017) Services for David Allen “Boo Boo” Horton age 12 will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Foster & Lay Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mike Rigsby officiating. BooBoo departed this life for his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Boo Boo was adored and loved by everyone who met him, he was truly a special child. He liked Ninja Turtles and the Angry Birds, listening to music, including Let It Go from Frozen and I'll Fly Away which were two of his favorites. Survivors include his mother, Amanda Horton (Mark Carrick) ; father, David Horton; sister, Deserae Horton; grandparents, Wilson and Kathy Horton, Phyllis and Benny Carrick. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clyde and Judy Meeks. Matthew 18: 1-5 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Mike Rigsby officiating, the family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-9 P.M. At the funeral home. Arrangements are by Foster & Lay Funeral Home of Tracy City.

SHRUM, MR. RAY, (May 9, 1938 - January 27, 2017), 78, passed away Friday January 27, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Marion County near Pryor Ridge on May 9, 1938 to Taylor William and Julia Harris Shrum who preceded him in death along with his brother, Billy Griffith. Ray was a heavy equipment operator retiring from the Tennessee Department of Transportation then went to work for his close friend, John Blevins of John Blevins Construction working right up until his health declined. He was one of the original organizers and builders of the Fiery Gizzard Sportsman Club. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and father-in-law to his family. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing with friends, family and his great grandson. He also liked cooking outside on the property with his family. Ray was always willing to lend a helping hand to a friend or family member in need. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dola Gibbs Shrum; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Debbie Shrum; granddaughters, Tabitha (Derrick) Clark and Danielle (Tommy) Hensley; great grandchildren, Katie and Taylor; brothers, Donald and Mike Shrum; sisters, Orpha (Russ Buchannon) Myers and Peggy Gross; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 Monday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Dennis Rollins officiating with burial to follow in the Plainview Cemetery. Visitation: 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM Sunday at Foster and Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, Tennessee.

LADD, MR CHARLES DWIGHT, (November 12, 1974 - January 26, 2017), 42, of Monteagle, Tennessee passed away Thursday January 26, 2017 at STRHS Sewannee. He was born in Sewanee on November 12, 1974. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Ladd; grandparents, Jessie Caldwell Ladd, John W. Ladd, Johnny Bear and Marrie Westerfield; brother, Billy Floyd. Charles is survived by his father John David Ladd, son, John Dylan Ladd; brothers, Johnny Westerfield and Chris Ladd; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday 2:00 PM January 28, 2017 at Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, Tennessee. With brother John Westerfield and brother Ralph Shrum officiating. Burial: Monteagle Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, January 27, 2017 from 5:00 PM till 9:00 PM at Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, Tennessee. www. cumberlandfuneralhome. net

BASHAM, MRS. PATSY ANN HOBBS, (1968 – 2017), 48, died Wednesday January 25, 2017 from injuries she received in a automobile accident. She was born in Coalmont, Tennessee on July 11, 1968. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Bryan Hobbs; sister, Gail Winton. She is survived by her mother, Oma Lee Risner Hobbs; sons, Kobe (Amanda) Allen, Smithville, TN and Dante (Deborah) Allen, Manchester, TN; sister, Sheila Hobbs; brothers, Jerry and Gary (Vicki) Hobbs; 5 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Cremation was chosen. There will be no service at the funeral home.

WINTON, MR. TIMOTHY DEAN, (November 13, 1964 - January 23, 2017), age 52 of Pelham, Tennessee won his battle with cancer when he went to be with Jesus on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 4:37 A.M. surrounded by his family. Born in Winchester on November 13, 1964 he was an amazing Godly family man. He told his nurses that he wanted to continue the fight so that he could just be with his family and he was very excited that his son and daughter-in-law were planning to adopt his first grandchild and he would be called Poppy. Tim graduated from Tennessee School for the Blind in Donelson, Tennessee in 1984, he was born legally blind, however he never allowed that little inconvenience to limit him in anyway. He was always a hard worker and a good provider for his family. Survivors include his son, Zachary (Sierra) Winton; step-son, Michael Myers; mother, Frankie Winton; sisters, Patricia Fuqua and Gayle (Jerry) VanHooser; brother, Mike (Vicki) Winton; nieces and nephews, Melissa King, Troy King, Heather King, Heath (Jessica) Winton, Josh (Lindsay) Winton, Nathan (Jill) Myers, Ryan (Misty) VanHooser, Alice (Nick) Roberts and a host of great nieces and nephews and special friends, Jeff Roach, Annette and Christian Williams, Hazelene Byrum and Sharon Winton. Tim is preceded in death by his loving wife, Teresa Winton. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Jack Nance, Brother Ray Winton and his son, Zachary officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday 5-9 P.M. at the funeral home. Tim was a big supporter of the Grundy County Lions Club. The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Grundy County Lions Club in memory of Tim Winton, C/O Whitney Brown, Treasurer, 1470 Colony Road, Coalmont, Tennessee 37313. Arrangements are by Cumberland Funeral Home of Monteagle, Tennesse

LAYNE, MR. LARRY DEAN, (1949-2017), 67, of Gruetli-Laager, died Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Waters of Winchester nursing home. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 6, 1949 to Joe Thomas Layne and Elsie Aline McHone Layne Turner who preceded him in death along with his daughter, Rebecca Gail Layne and his brother, Danny Joe Layne. He was a 6 year veteran of the United States Air Force and worked at Industrial Finish Materials in Detroit, Michigan then retired back to Tennessee. He is survived by his brothers, Crandle Layne, Coalmont, Craig (Sandra) Layne, New Baltimore, Michigan and Curtis (Karen) Turner, Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Military Honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard and Pastor Willard Griffin officiating. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

DAVIS, MR. EDIE, DAVIS (Edie), 82, of Gruetli-Laager, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 while residing at the National Health Care in Dunlap. She was born in Newbert Springs, TN in Knox Co. to George H. and Mary Elizabeth Thomas Lemons who preceded her in death along with her husband, Alfred B. Davis; son, Michael Griffy; brother, J. L. Lemons. A registered nurse for almost 50 years of service. She worked in hospitals, a headstart nurse and in home health care. She served her community and beyond by starting churches, working with internationals, and going on multiple mission trips abroad. She is survived by her son, Tony Griffy of Chattanooga; daughter, Beth Griffy Caldwell of Signal Mountain; step-son, Kelsie (Geraldine) Davis; step-daughter, Aline (Doyle) Minton; 7 grandchildren who were her pride and joy and loved dearly. A private graveside service will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Fall Creek Cemetery. A visitation/reception will be 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Signal Mountain Baptist Church Christian Life Center. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

MRS. ANNA GRISWOLD, (January 1, 1917 – January 20, 2017), age 100 years and 19 days passed away at her home on Friday, January 20, 2017. She was born in Hartford, Arkansas on January 1, 1917 a daughter of the late David M. Griswold and Anna B. Dykes Griswold. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Goforth; son, Carl David “Little Man” Sweeton; sisters, Bernice Gross and Ellene Griswold; brothers, David and John Griswold; granddaughter, Anna Moore; grandson, David Sweeton. Mrs. Goforth was an Episcopalian, and had a great love for gardening and genealogy. She was a founding member of the Grundy County Historical Society, a member of the Ladies Memorial and had been a member of the Tracy City Garden Club for many years. Survivors include her children, Nancy (Wade) Daugherty, Katie Goforth, Mona (Karl) Moreland; daughter-in-law, Linda Sweeton;grandchildren, Mona Lee Brittingham, Thomas Moore and Claire Cowart; great-grandchildren, Emily Hart, Olivia Cowart and Stuart Douglas; niece, Patricia Bates; nephews, Mike Gross, Gary Griswold and Ron Terry; Anna's “heart adopted” children and many beloved friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with The Reverend Stephen Eichler officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1-4 P.M. and Monday from 5-9 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to: the Grundy County Historical Society or the Ladies Memorial Association at the City Cemetery. Arrangements are by Foster & Lay Funeral Home of Tracy City.

HALL, MR. JAMES OSBORN “RED” (December 21, 1944 – January 20, 2017) age 72 of Coalmont, Tennessee passed away Friday, January 20, 2017, at STRHS-Winchester. He was a retired timber worker and a son of the late Charlie and Ola Hall and was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford Hall, Charles Hall and Alton “Monk” Hall; sister, Lorene Sanders.
Survivors include his brother, Eddie Dean Hall and his sister, Brenda Short both of Coalmont; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday in the funeral home chapel. Brother Joe Nunley will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday evening 4-9 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bonny Oak Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Foster & Lay Funeral Home of Tracy City.
