BLAYLOCK, MR. ROBERT H., age 81, of Palmer, Tennessee passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016, at STRHS-Sewanee. He was a son of the late James Robert Blaylock and Allie J. Cagle Blaylock and was preceded in death by brother, Jim Blaylock; sisters, Geneva Pemberton and Lois Dykes; nephew, Eckerd Blaylock.
Robert loved his work, he drove a tractor, mowing the road ways and interstates in Tennessee for many years. Survivors include his wife, Betty Blaylock; children, Kenneth White, Robin (Earl) Layman, Amanda Lockhart (Smiley Anderson), Kristie (Jimmy) Scruggs; grandchildren, Traci, Jacob, Anthony, Haley, Jasmine, Shala, Jayden, Kaley Mae, Dylan; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Chelsea; sister-in-law, Katherine Blaylock and her daughter, Melba (Robert) McGee; several other nieces and nephews and his special baby canine, "Abby". Funeral services will be 6:00 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Stacy Smith and Brother Clifford Cordell officiating. Mr. Blaylock requested that he be cremated after his service and his ashes scattered in his "special place". Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN.

CAGLE, MR. DAVID WADE, age 66, of Monteagle, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016, at The Waters of Winchester. He was a son of the late James Thomas Cagle and Robena Thomas Cagle Magouirk. Survivors include his step-father, James "Red" (Dorothy) Magouirk; sister, Mary Elizabeth (Al) Ludwig and her children and grandchildren, Tommy, Kerry, Tasha, Tonya and Kasey; sister, Pam (Jamie) Rogers, sister, Robin Magouirk, sister, Vickie (Bill) Thomas, sister, Tina Prince (Joe Petty) ; several nieces and nephews including Bridgett, Peyton, Blake, Payton, and Cecily. A celebration of life service will be 4:00 P.M. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Glen Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Summerfield Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, TN.

CAGLE, MR. DONNY RAY, (1959 – 2016), 56, of Gruetli-Laager, died Monday September 26, 2016 at the Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born in Palmer, Tennessee on December 23, 1959. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Ray Cagle. He is survived by his wife, Judy Turley Cagle; mother, Wavie Layne Cagle sons, Carl (Megan) and Dale Sanders; sister, Louise (Kenny) Johnson; brothers, Carlise and Billy Wade Cagle; grandchildren, Hailey Henley, Kayden and Julia Sanders; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Bibleway Holiness Church in Gruetli-Laager with Ministers Don Layne and Jeremy Robinson officiating. Burial followed in the Swiss Colony Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

FLURY, MRS. CATHERINE (KILGORE) Mrs. Catherine Kilgore Flury, 93, of Tracy City died on September 20, 2016 at The Waters in Winchester, Tennessee. She was the daughter of C. E. Kilgore and Theona Haynes Kilgore. She was a lifelong member of Tracy City United Methodist Church where she spent many years working with church ministries and organizations. She was a loving wife, Mother, "Nanny", homemaker, community volunteer, and historian of family, city and county. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz L. Flury; son, Fritz Leon Flury, Jr. ; sister, Evelyn Cunningham and brothers, George and C. E. Kilgore Jr. She is survived by her children, Linda Mostashari, Tommy Flury, Paul Flury (Lisa) and Tina Gifford (Mike) ; sister, Ruth Roberts; brother, David Kilgore (Judy) ; grandchildren, Ami McChesney, Shalah Mostashari, Darian Mostashari, Daniel Mostashari, Catherine Flury Johns, Stephanie Flury Kelsey, Andy Lockhart, Rebekah Parrish, Joshua Sitz, Tommy Lovell and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, September 23 at First United Methodist Church in Tracy City, with Reverend Danny Coffelt officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Tracy City United Methodist Women or the Grundy County Historical Society. Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN.

JARRETT, MR. TOMMY D., (1939 – 2016), age 77, of Sewanee, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems in Sewanee. He was born on September 16, 1939 in Chattanooga to the late Talley Davis and Rose Mae Taylor Jarrett. Tommy retired from the United States Navy after serving for over 20 years. He was an artist that loved to make crafts (photography, folk art, Steam Punk, driftwood) and was a musician who played the Vibes. Tommy is survived by his brothers, Fred (Brenda) Jarrett of Rock Springs, GA and Gene Jarrett of Rockmart, GA; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the Pavilion on Main Street. Arrangements were provided by Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, Winchester, TN.

Helen (Myers) Kirk
Mrs. Helen Myers Kirk, of Tracy City, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Unity Medical Center in Manchester. She was born in Tracy City, a daughter of the late Claude Myers and Argie Ingram Myers and was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Ed Kirk, brothers, Jim and Bernard Myers; sister, Doris Crawford.
Mrs. Kirk was a graduate of GCHS '47, a longtime member of Tracy City First United Methodist Church and had worked at GENESCO in Cowan before retiring.
Survivors include her brother, John K. Myers, Sr. and his wife, Billie Faye; sisters-in-law, Lucyle Hampton, Judy Hampton and Ann Myers; several nieces and nephews and a cousin, Evelyn Novotny. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Tracy City First United Methodist with Reverend Danny Coffelt officiating. Burial will be in City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home of Tracy City, TN.

LAYNE, MR. SHERMAN, of Pelham, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016. He is preceded in death by his father and mother; Abe and Edith Layne, also son Gary Layne. Mr. Layne was a retired Electrician.
Survivors include daughter, Sharon Hunt of Tullahoma; sisters, Virginia Zimsek of Streetsboro, Ohio and Teresa Ann Layne of Grovesfield, FL; grandchildren, Lacey Hunt, Alex Hunt, and Amber Layne. A memorial will be held Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Simply Southern from 1P. M. -4P.M. Arrangements were provided by Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, TN.

LONG, MRS. SUE ANN, (1940 – 2016) 76, of Palmer, died Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Park Ridge Hospital in Chattanooga with her husband at her bedside. She was born in Palmer, Tennessee on April 3, 1940 to Arthur Leryoy "Monk" Land and Jessie Shrum Land who preceded her in death along with her sons, Dennis and Gary Cleek; sister, Tina Nance; brother, Lee Doug Land. Sue was presently an Alderman for the City of Palmer and had operated Sue's Kurlette Beauty shop in Palmer until her retirement. She attended the Palmer United Methodist Church and the Palmer Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Kelso Long; grandsons, Cain, Caleb and Dennis Lee Cleek; granddaughter, Whitney Cleek; great granddaughter, Stormy Cleek; great grandson, Jessie Clark; special aunt, Ima (Bob) Geary; step-daughters, Samantha Williamson and Yvonne Busbee; step-grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Rogers, Amber Wood and Linsey Scott; step-great grandchildren, Cory and Leha Rogers, Aaron and Ethan Scott, David Lopez; a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Minister John Kennedy officiating. Burial followed in the Palmer Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

TATE, MR. SHERMAN MITCHELL, (1950 – 2016), 66, of Tracy City, died Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the hospital in Sewanee. He was born in Altamont, Tennessee on March 26, 1950 to Buford and Sarah Scott Tate who preceded him in death along with his infant daughter, Dana Nicole Tate. Sherman started out working in the timber business with his father and brothers. Later he was a Truck driver and Chicken grower. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and camping. He loved animals and was always taking in all stray animals and caring for them along with his own dog, Molly, who was precious to him. He attended church at Sweeton Hill Congregational Methodist Church until his health declined. He is survived by his wife, Carla Smith Tate; daughter, Melissa (Chris) Cox, Dunlap; sons, Casey (Tabitha) Tate, Monteagle, Justin (Lorena) Tate, Hendersonville, TN and Jordan Tate, Johnson City, TN; brothers, Richard Tate, Gruetli-Laager, Linuel (Mildred) Tate, Phillip Tate, Altamont, David (Kathy) Tate, Tracy City; sisters, Jean Fults, Ruth (Loyd) McGee, Altamont, Annie Mae (Norman) King, Beersheba Springs and Jewell (Ronnie) Akins, Dunlap; grandchildren, Kara, Tanner, Drew, Mia, Riley, Logan and Will; a host of nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Doris Sweeton Smith, Tracy City. The family invites you to join them in a memorial service to celebrate Sherman's life on Sunday, October 9th, 2016 at the Coalmont Community Center from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

SEAGROVES, MR. WILLIAM “DOUG”, (March 16, 1943 – September 13, 2016), age 73 of Tracy City passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at his home. He was a son of the late William and Mae Seagroves and was preceded in death by his son, Jeff. Doug was retired from the Grundy County Highway Department, he was an Atlanta Braves and wrestling fan. Survivors include his wife, Lois Nunley Seagroves; children, Tim (Lisa), Chris (Cindy) and Kelly (Mindy) ; brother, James Earl Seagroves; sisters, Geraldine Parsons, JoAnn Anderson and Rhonda Dykes; grandchildren, Felicia, Kimberly, Bethany, Makayla, Makenzie, Donavan, Keristyn and Gracie; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Chestnut Springs Church at Orange Hill. Ministers John Potts, Bobby Winton and Joe Nunley will officiate. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-9 P.M. At Chestnut Springs Church at Orange Hill.
