YATES, MR. LONNIE WILSON, (July 8, 1940 - September 11, 2016), age 76, of Sewanee, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, September, 11, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems in Sewanee, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leesul and Claudia “Jay” Yates; sister, Mary Frances Yates; niece, Karen Bailey. Survivors include is wife of almost 57 years Elizabeth “Liz” “The Wife” Yates, Sewanee, Tennessee; son, S. B. Yates; grandson, Todd S. Yates (fiancé Faith Howard) ; sister, Connie Warner; nephew, Michael Reid (fiancé Michelle Emery) Ty and Jordan Reid. Funeral services were private for the family. Arrangements are provided by Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, Tennessee, (931) 924-2381. Arrangements are by Foster & Lay Funeral Home of Tracy City, Tennessee.

STIEFEL, MR. WENDELL, 62, of Gruetli-Laager, passed away unexpectedly Friday September 9, 2016. He was born in Altamont, Tennessee on October 20, 1953. He was retired from Carrier Corporation and was an autobody repairman. He was a member of the Bivens Chapel Congregational Methodist Church where he served as song leader for many years. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Bivens Stiefel; parents, Eule and Alma Stiefel; daughter, Wendy (Andy) Lockhart; sons, Chad (Crystal) and Luke (Ashley) Stiefel; sisters, Elaine (Johnny) Gipson and Lori (Terry) Franklin; brothers, Bill (Betty), Keith (Nelda) and Kurt (Michelle) Stiefel; grandchildren, Courtney (Stephen) Bird, Daniel, Kristen, Uriah, Katie-Bec, Morgan, Moriah Jewel, Elyza and Ellasyn; mother-in-law, Janie Bivens; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Andy Lockhart, Larry Campbell and Charles Thomas officiating. Burial followed in the Burketts's Chapel Cemetery. NUNLEY, MRS. EDNA MAE, (1922 – 2016), age 94, of Tracy City, Tennessee passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at STRHS Skilled Care in Sewanee. She was born in Tracy City, a daughter of the late William H. Sanders and Laura Lorene Armstrong Sanders and was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Nunley; son, Jeffery Lynn Nunley; grandson, Robert Anderson; son-in-laws, Kenneth Gregory and Louis Lovell; sisters, Jean, Helen and Lois; brother Wayman "Bud" Sanders. Mrs. Nunley was a member of Myers Hill First Congregational Methodist Church. She had worked many years at the Colonial Manufacturing shirt factory in Tracy City. Survivors include her children, Brenda (Sam) Anderson, Mary Gregory, Janice Lovell and Joyce (Jeff) Bledsoe; brother, Alvin (Bonnie) Sanders; sister, Patty (Glover) Wingo; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Myers Hill First Congregational Methodist Church with Brother Dennis Rollins and Brother Freddie Savage officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home of Tracy City, TN.

PERRY, MRS. MILDRED NOLAN, 82, (1934 – 2016), of Gruetli-Laager, died at her home early Saturday, September 10, 2016 with her family near her bedside. She was born in Sequatchie County on June 21, 1934 to John and Gladys Pickett Nolan who preceded her in death along with her husband, Robert E. Perry Sr., Son, Robert E. Perry Jr. ; brothers, Harvey and Dalton Nolan. She was a member of the Bivens Chapel Congregational Methodist and was retired from the Grundy County Health Department.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Keith) Nunley; sister, Linda (Randy) Waters; brothers, Bobby (Nancy), Jimmy (Barbara) Frank, Clyde, Houston (Nadine), Ronnie (Janice) ; sister-in-law, Janice Nolan; grandchildren, Michelle (Tony) Whiteaker, Jason (Patti) Nunley, Jared (Tosha) Nunley, Robert Craig Perry, Amanda (Dion) Burnett and Michael Perry; 8 great-grandchildren; a host of loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers, Larry Campbell and Freddie Savage officiating. Burial followed in the Hills Creek cemetery at Irving College. TATE, MR. DANNY LEE (March 18, 1944 – September 10, 2016), age 72 of Sewanee, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at his residence. He was the son of the late William Andrew Jackson Tate and Hazel Frances Sitz Tate. Survivors include his wife, Shirley J. Tate of Sewanee; son, Christopher Stephen (Cassandra) Tate of Tracy City; daughters, Jacqueline Dana (Phillip Gene II) Ingleburger of Winchester and Kimberly Alison (Michael Edwin) Parman of Hendersonville; grandchildren; Chelcey Elizabeth Rayome, Courtney Alexis Tate, Anna JordanIngleburger, Kyle Andrew Ingleburger, Layne Christopher Tate, Carly Rose Tate, Taylor Michael Parman, Tatum Michelle Parman and McKenna Joyce. KING, MR. ALFRED EARL, (1939 – 2016), 77, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville with his family at his bedside. He was born in Beersheba Springs, Tennessee on May 23, 1939 to Fred M. and Virginia Smartt King who preceded him in death along with his sisters, Johnnie Byers and Anna Bell Odom. Alfred was an Iron Worker, Carpenter and his last job was with All American Enterprises in Altamont. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Blaylock King; son, Tim King; daughter, Lisa (Wade) Nunley; brothers, F. M. and Harold (Doris) King; sisters, Reba (Charlie) Freeman, Linda Roberts, Hope Cox and Pam (Rex) Stone; grandchildren, Jacob, Hunter, Carson and Allie; a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with burial in the Altamont cemetery with Minister Melvin Childers officiating. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont TN.

BUMPAS, MRS. SUSAN CAROL SANDERS, 58, died Sunday September 4, 2016 in Slidell, Louisiana. She was currently living in Kiln, MS and was a native of Altamont. She was born in Fort Knox, KY on November 28, 1957 and was a member of the Airview Baptist Church in Altamont, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Ray “Sandy” Sanders. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Mae Collins Sanders, Altamont; son, James Michael Cory, Kiln, MS; daughter, Jennifer Cory; sister, Angelina (Jackie) Hensley, Manchester; brothers, James Michael Sanders, Donald Ray (Brenda) Sanders, Rickey Joe Sanders Charles Raymond Sanders all of Manchester, Carl Allen Sanders, Danville, IL; grandchildren, Samantha (Travis) Necaise, Alex and Jazilyn Cory and Jamie Beaulieu; great grandson, Alec Whyatt Necaise. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday September 9, 2016 with burial to follow in the Airview Cemetery. Visitation: 11:00 AM until time of service Friday at Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, Tennessee.

PARSONS, MRS. NAYDEAN LILLIAN, (September 26, 1931 - September 3, 2016), age 84, of Sequatchie, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Hospice Care Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Jennie Nunley; 4 brothers; 4 sisters; and husband, Lee Upton ‘Red’ Parsons. Survivors include son, Tim (Marjorie) Parsons, Ooltewah, TN; daughter, Beth Sulcer, Hixson, TN; sister, Jewell Kilgore, Sequatchie, TN; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and many special cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. The family would like to thank the caring folks at The Lantern at Morning Pointe, Collegedale, TN and Hospice of Chattanooga. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. CDT, Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in the Foster & Lay Chapel with Reverend Danny Coffelt officiating. Burial will be at the Plainview Cemetery, Tracy City, TN. The family will receive friends Monday 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. CDT and 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, before the service, at the funeral home. MCGHEE, MRS. MARTHA JEWELL, (February 9, 1945 – September 3, 2016) age 71 of Dunlap, Tennessee and recent resident of the Haven Of Rest in Tracy City and The Bridge At Monteagle passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Tracy City First Baptist Church with Reverend Ben Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 12:00 Noon until services.

WILLIAMS, MR. DANNY RAY, SR., 62, of Sequatchie Mtn., died Sunday, August 28, 2016, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Katherine Rollins Williams; brother, Billy Joe Williams; sisters, Janie Beatrice Williams and Jewelene Williams. He had worked as a truck driver and mechanic and was a veteran of the US Navy. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, "Crickett" Sarah Cabe Williams; son, Danny Ray Williams, Jr . and fiancée, Cheyenne Sutherland; daughters, Crystal Williams Webb and Brian and Amber Michele Williams and fiancé, Josh Jackson; Brothers, Bruce (Carol) and Robert (Reba) Williams; sisters, Jannette Williams Phillips (Tom) Hartsel, Kathy (David) Tate, Edith (Dennis) Cook and Linda (Eddie) Carson; 4 grandchildren, Cameron Williams, Brianna, Ethan and Peyton Webb and mother-in-law, Sarah Cabe. Graveside funeral services will be at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens, on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 4 P.M. The family will receive friends from 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 and Wednesday, from 9 am until time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to an account in Mr. Williams name at First Volunteer Bank. Arrangements were provided by Tate Funeral Home, LLC, Jasper, TN.

CLEEK, MRS. HAZEL RUTH, (1939 – 2016), 77, of Gruetli-Laager, passed away Friday, August 27, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Sewanee. She was a native of Decatur, Tennessee. She was born in Athens, Tennessee on April 12, 1939 to Fred and Linnie Bell Weir Crisp who preceded her in death along with her husband, Mitchel Cleek; brother, Kenneth Crisp; sisters, Iva Lue Oliver and Carolyn Bowman. She was a member of Laager Methodist Church and had worked at Buster Brown in Chattanooga. She is survived by her brother, Daniel Crisp; sisters, Helen Clark and Lois Campbell; extended family, Gary "Rooster" and Jan Brewer and children, Kyle (Marilu), Matt (Kacy) and Ben (Kassidi) ; Harper, Hazely and Brody; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Matthew Meeks and Ben Brewer officiating. Burial to follow in the Palmer Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

JOHNSON, MR. JOHN WESLEY, 75, passed away Sunday August 28, 2016 at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born in Tracy City on November 27, 1940 to Roy and Hazel Byers Johnson who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Herman, Carl and Doug Johnson; sisters, Neva Shrum and Zelma Haynes. He was retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and was a member of the Church of Christ at Coalmont. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hazel Sweeton Johnson; son, Wes (Judy) Johnson Jr. ; daughters, Jody (Victor) Wright and Sonya (Tim) Garner; sister, Faye (George) Coppinger; grandchildren, Amanda (Barry), Ian (Cassie), Marina, Collin (Hannah), John W. III, Brandi and Jeremiah; great grandchildren, Brandon, Harlee, Andie, Emily and Hunter; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Ray Winton officiating with burial to follow in the Coalmont Cemetery. Visitation: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM Tuesday at Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, Tennessee.

HARGIS, MR. MICHAEL, (September 8, 1960 - August 25, 2016) Michael Hargis of Tracy City Tennessee past away Thursday August 25, 2016 at Erlanger Hospital. He is proceeded in death by this father James E. Hargis and Mother Lucille Hargis. Mr. Hargis is survived by his children James Hargis, Murfreesboro, TN and Kari Hargis, Coalmont, TN; brother, Harry Crabtree, Fayetteville, TN; sister, Paige Mitchell, Gruetil-Laager, TN; grandchildren; Kaylee Parks, Emily Parks, Aubrey Grace Parks, Kenley Parks, also a special cousin; Peggy Hargis. Visitation will be Sunday August 28, 2016 from 1:00 P.M. till 4:00 P.M. Services beginning at 4:00 PM at the Foster and Lay Chapel in Tracy City Tn.
