FREEMAN, MR. CHARLIE, (1937 – 2016), 79, of Attapulgus, Georgia passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the home of his sister-in-law in Altamont, Tennessee. He was born in Jasper, Alabama on May 23, 1937 to Henry and Vida Williams Freeman who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Winfred, Willis, Herman, Gilbert, Dock and Jimmy Freeman. He is survived by his wife, Reba King Freeman; sons, Mitchel (Jewell) Freeman, Gonzales, Louisiana, Neal (Darlene) Freeman, Brinson, GA; daughter, Lena (Fred) Presser, Danville, KY; brothers, John Jr. (Gayree) Freeman, Jasper, AL and Bud (Diane) Freeman, Gulfcoast, AL; grandchildren, Alan, Haley, Macy and Emma Grace; a host of loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Micah Roberts and Ben Brewer officiating. Burial followed in the Altamont Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.

PARSONS, MRS. MARY ”SUE”, (August 11, 1943 - August 23, 2016) . age 73, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System, in Winchester, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Barbara Merrell; sister, Peggy Shrum. Survivors include her husband, Bill Parsons, Tracy City Tennessee; sons, Avery Merrell, Erdie Merrell, and Matthew Parsons; brother, Jimmy Merrell; granddaughter, Kesia Merrell. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 26, 2016 in the Foster & Lay chapel with Reverend Ernest Lockhart officiating, the burial will be in the Plain view cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, Tennessee (931) 592-3691.

WILCOX, MRS. JEANIE LYNN, of Tracy City Tennessee (December 24, 1958 - August 19, 2016) placed away at her home Friday August 19, 2016 surround by her loved ones. She is proceeded in death by her parents Leon and Betty Crane. She is survived by her husband Lenard Carl Wilcox, sons; Jason Wilcox, Michael Crane, Joseph Reed, daughters; Tammy Wilcox, Beth Reed, Natasha Wilcox, brothers; George Tracy, and Leon Crane. She was a loving mother, grandmother, an great grandmother.

Susie Layne Peck
Mrs. Susie Layne Peck, age 83, of Decherd, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving husband and family. She is preceded in death by her mother, Willie E. Thomas Layne and her father, Robert Wilson Layne; son, Sam Stevens; grandson, Joshua Stevens. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, John Milton Peck; daughters, Susan Williams, Jennifer (Daryll) Smiley, Denise Hill and Patty McNeil; sons, Lee Troy Stevens and John Clifton (Pam) Peck ; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-greatgrandchild.
Funeral services will be Tuesday August 9, 2016 at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Dr. Daryll Smiley officiating. Interment followed at Watson-North Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers were Matthew Hill, Kevin Releford, Mikey Williams, Chuck Williams, Lawson Hise, Colton Stevens, John Michael Peck and Logan Lankford. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to your local church or the charity of your choice . Arrangements were provided by Watson-North Funeral Home, Winchester, TN.

Rita D Thompson
(July 5, 1941 - August 4, 2016)
Rita Thompson, age 75, of Tracy City, Tennessee passed away Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Sewanee, Tennessee. She is survived by her husband, Jack Thompson; daughters, Donna Jordan, Ginger Jordan and Jill (Shawn) D'Arcey; brother, Homer (Arlene) Layne, Jr. ; sisters, Faye (Bill) Henley, Sherry (Nat) Harris, Joyce (Don) Jacobs, Freda (Rock) Layne; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. Graveside service will be at 3:30 P.M. Saturday, August 6, 2016 in the City cemetery with Reverend John Potts officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. Johnnie B. Byers
(August 29, 1943 - August 3, 2016)
Mr. Johnnie B. Byers age 72 of Monteagle passed from this life on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Southern Tennessee in Sewanee. He was retired from the Monteagle Utility Department and was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jennings. Survivors include his wife, Becky Byers; sons, Johnny (Amy) Byers and Stephen (Karena) Byers; grandchildren, Haleigh, Hunter, and Callie; numerous, wonderful cousins and friends. A memorial service for Johnnie will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Paul Tittle and Brother Thomas George officiating. Jerry Kenneth Tate
1943 - 2016
Mr. Jerry Kenneth Tate, age 72, of Winchester and formerly of Tracy City, was received by the Lord on Tuesday, August 2 in his home. Surrounded by family and friends, the beloved coach conquered a bout with Parkinson's for the past 18 years.
Coach Tate is survived by his wife, Brenda Meeks Tate; one son, Mark Christopher Tate and JoVonna Lee VanHooser Tate; 2 grandsons, Draven Justice Tate and Jerion Rylee Tate; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Geraldine "Connie" Roberts Tate and father Jewell Angus Tate and a beloved grandmother Ida Thompson Roberts. Coach Tate was a graduate of the Class of 1961 at Grundy County High School where he excelled in basketball. He was a member of the GCHS football team and several summer league baseball teams. He entered Tennessee Technological University where he was a graduate with a major in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He received his MS and Ed. S degrees in Administration and Supervision from Tennessee Tech while teaching in public schools. Coach Tate began his coaching career in 1967 with a very successful football team at Whitwell High School where he was named to the All-Tri State Coaching Staff. In subsequent years, he coached in Elkmont, Alabama, DeKalb County, Tennessee, Coffee County, Grundy County and spent his last 13 years of coaching in Marion County where he was an assistant coach, winning 4 state championships during the decade of the 90's. While at Grundy County, he was a three time recipient of the Coach of the Year Award in the Sequatchie Valley Conference for girls' basketball. Coach Tate was best known for coaching football and girls' basketball, but at various times in his career also coached boys' basketball, track, wrestling and baseball. Coach Jerry Tate was widely known as a quiet and gentle mentor, listener and friend. His humility carried over as a son, husband, father and coach to enrich the lives of those with whom he came in contact. A visitation/memorial celebration of Coach Tate's life will be held at the Tracy City Church of Christ on Tuesday, August 9 from 4 to 8 P.M. Sarah Jean McGregor
(February 7, 1932 - July 29, 2016)
Mrs. Sarah J. McGregor passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at the home of her daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Howard McGregor; parents, Columbus & Sallie Jacobs Green; twin sister, Martha J. Gilliam. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Tim Sherrill; grandchildren, Jessica Sherrill, Murfreesboro, Zachary Sherrill, Shelbyville and Sarah Beth (Cody) Easley of Huntsville; great-grandson, Matthew Easley; special family, Tabitha Rankin and Chanten Colston; brothers, Herman Green, John T. (Bonnie) Green of Sewanee, Joe Green, Cowan, James (Jan) Green, Sherwood; sisters, Mary Green, Sewanee, Kathy Ownby, Austell, GA, Barbara Byers and Susie (Sam) Kilgore, Monteagle; a host of special nieces and nephews. The family wants to thank the Monteagle Church of Christ, Tree of Life in Tracy City, Stacey Campbell, Stephanie Gibbs, Lindsey Gipson, Holly Foster Bailey, Jenny Thomas, Pam Isabell, Helen Luzzadder, Jan Green and all the other ladies who cared for my mom; Amdeysis Hospice, Holly Langley and Cumberland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Keevin Gray and Brother Paul Tittle officiating. Interment will be in Monteagle Cemetery. John Walker Bretz
(June 22, 2016 - July 26, 2016)
John Walker Bretz was born June 22, 2016 and went to be with the Lord July 26, 2016. He was the infant son of Jonathan and Ashley Bretz. He was proceded in death by paternal great grandfather, George Nunley; paternal grandfather, Kermit Bryson; maternal great great grandfather, John Oscar Woodall; maternal great great grandmother, Glenna Sue Woodall. He is survived by his parents Jonathan and Ashley Bretz; paternal grandparents, Tina Bretz; Michael (Edna) Bretz; paternal great grandmother, Linda Nunley; paternal great grandmother, Linda (Vernon) Teal; paternal great grandfather James (Rhonda) Pack; maternal grandparents, Tiffany (Mark) Mahaffey; maternal great grandmother, Pamela Floyd; maternal great grandfather, Johnny (Regina) Floyd; maternal great great grandmother, Carolyn Scott; paternal aunts, Christa Bretz and Heather Bretz; paternal uncle Justin Bretz; maternal aunt Sarah (Whit) Slatton; numerous cousins, great aunts, great uncles and other family members. Graveside service will be 4:00 P.M. Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Monteagle cemetery with Brother Dennis Carter officiating, the family will receive friends Thursday from 3-4 P.M. at Cumberland Funeral Home. Mrs. Clarice Virginia Bray, age 80, of Monteagle, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016, at her home. A graveside service was held at Plainview cemetery on Wednesday. Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN.

Roxanne Crabtree
1962 - 2016
Ms. Roxanne Crabtree, age 54, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Sewanee, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her father, Earl Crabtree; grandparents, Frankie and Melvin Burrows, Walter Reed Crabtree, and Winnie Ella Campbell Crabtree; uncles, Don, Jack, Malcolm; aunts, Wanda and Becky.
Survivors include her mother, Rachel Crabtree; son, Kirby (Gabby) Crabtree; sister, Tonie Crabtree; nephew, Sam Crabtree. A graveside service was held August 6 in the Coalmont cemetery with Brother Ray Winton officiating. Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN.
