BAKER, MRS. RUTH “NANNY”, age 85, of Tracy City, Tennessee passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Services in Sewanee, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her parents, Will and Lena Byers; husband, Malcolm "Doo Little" Baker, Son, Mike Price; siblings, James Byers, Mildred Sissom, Stanley Byers, Wilene Byers; special pets, Marney and Buster, Tanner. Survivors include her children, Jan Price, Tracy City, Tennessee; Rick Baker, Tracy City, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Peggy Price (Anthony Dishroon) ; brother, Charles "Frosty" Byers; sister, Yvonne Baggonstoss, Tracy City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Michael and Kaitlyne Price; special nephew, Ken Baggenstoss; special great nephew, Dylan; special pets, Rylo and Donna Summer. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Foster & Lay Chapel with Reverend Mike Rigsby, Reverend Bobby Winton and Brother Claude Hoback officiating. Burial was in the Plainview cemetery. BUNCH, MRS. TRACY LAVERNE (SARTAIN), 58, 1958 - 2016 of the Valley Home Community in Grundy County, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at NHC Health Care in Murfreesboro. She was born in Highland Park, MI on June 18, 1958, the daughter of Charles Harold Sartain and Barbara LaVerne Sartain. She attended Ministry Baptist Church. Tracy received her Associates Degree in Computer Science at Nashville Technical Institute. She worked at Aquarius Industries in Nashville and later at the University of Tennessee Space Institute, Tullahoma and Ingersoll-Rand in White House, TN as Computer Programmer Analyst. Tracy's hobbies were reading, crocheting, card and board games, cake decorating, cooking and genealogy. She was a member of the Grundy County Historical Society and the FCE. She was preceded in death by her father in 2012. She is survived by her husband, Michael Bunch; mother, Barbara Sartain; brother, Mark H. Sartain; sister-in-law, Sheena Sartain; her special niece, Darcy Emeelia Sartain; uncle, Marshall Sartain; aunts, Judy Sartain, Mary Hinson and Lois Davenport and several cousins, in-laws and many friends.
The funeral, officiated by Pastor Barry Rhoads of Ministry Baptist Church in Pelham, will be in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday July 21, 2016 at 11 A.M. Burial will be in the Sartain Family cemetery in Burroughs Cove near Pelham. Arrangements were provided by Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, TN.
HOOSIER, MRS. FAYE DENT, 84, 1931 - 2016 of Palmer, passed away Friday July 15, 2016 at the Health Care Center at Standifer in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was currently living in Jasper, TN but spent most of her life in Palmer. She was born in Palmer, Tennessee on December 25, 1931 to Lester Grady and Iva Beatrice Frizzell Smith who preceded her in death along with her husband, J. D. Dent; sons, Samuel Keith and Scotty Walter Dent; brothers, Albert Lester Smith; sisters, Patsy Carrick, Ann Smith and Alberta Griffith; husband, Jones Hoosier. She is survived by her sons, Tim (Phyllis), Jeff (Tiffany) and Troy (Lisa) Dent; daughters, Pam (Gene) Caldwell, Deb (Jimmy) Meeks, Lisa (Andy) Morrison and Tammy Cleek; brother, Billy Wade Smith; sisters, Robena (Pat) Tate, Betty Blankenship and Bonnie Watts; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. BIVENS, MR. DONALD EUGENE, 66, 1949 - 2016of Gruetli-Laager, passed away Monday July 11, 2016 at the Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. He was born in McMinnville, TN on October 28, 1949 to William Thurston and Mae Arlene Brown Bivens who preceded him in death along with his sons, Quentin and Matthew Bivens; brother, Charles Bivens. He was a retired Coal miner. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Bivens; daughters, Yolanda (James) Caldwell and Augusta (Bryan) Vandergriff; brother, Mark Bivens; sisters, Willene (Preston) Knowlan, Mary Thomas, Alma Layne, Joyce (Bradley) Layne, Darlene (Anthony) Sanders; grandchildren, Solon, Ariel, Dean, Chyenne, Octavia, Alexzander, Aurora and Malachi; several nieces and nephews. CRABTREE, MR. JOHNNY, S., age 62, of Tracy City, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016, at The Bridge in South Pittsburg. He was a retired Boiler Maker and a U. S. Navy veteran and was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Lucretia Thomas Crabtree; brother, Bruce Crabtree, Jr. Survivors include his sisters, Janelle (John) Bush, Tracy City and Elizabeth (Doug) Ashley, Winchester; nieces and nephews, Kaitlin Bush, Lennon Ashley, Holly Crabtree and Greg Parsons; several aunts, uncles and cousins. TURNER, WILLIAM RAY, MR., age 90, (1926 – 2016) of Tracy City, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016, at his home. Mr. Turner was born in Tracy City on February 1, 1926, a son of the late James Walter Turner, Sr. and Annie McCreary Turner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie on May 30th this year; brothers, James Walter Turner, Jr., Estele Lee Turner and six other brothers and sisters; granddaughter, Leah Marie Turner. Mr. Turner had retired from construction work and was our local historian, he was well known all over the United States as the go to person to find out about historical facts and people of Grundy County. He loved for people to call or come by and talk about Grundy County's past, our famous, as well as the infamous residents, coal mining, railroad, moonshine, or any other good story. Survivors include his sons, Larry (Janice) Turner and Travis (Sharon) Turner; granddaughters, Alice and Sara Beth Turner; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. GARNER, DOROTHY, MRS, 95, (1921 – 2016) of Palmer, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June, 20, 2016. Born May 11, 1921 to Ben and Rene Morrison. She was a member of the Laager Independent Methodist Church where she was formerly active in the nursing home ministry of the Church. Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Herbert Garner; son, Cecil and Don Garner; grandson, Lindley Garner. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Pettit, Tunnell Hill, GA, Deborah Smith, Gruetli-Laager, TN and Angela (Randall) Brown, Dalton, GA; son, Steve Garner, Palmer, TN; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; many great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
