DICKINSON, MR. RICK LEE, December 8, 1952 - February 20, 2016), age 63 of Monteagle passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016, in Select Special Hospital in Nashville. He was a retired truck driver and was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Dickinson. He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Amy Gilliam (Bryan Custer), Rick Adam Dickinson and Tracey Elizabeth (Steven) McBee; mother, Barbara Dickinson; grandchildren, Hunter Custer, Hannah Custer, Trenton, Braden and Dylan Dickinson and Nathan McBee. LINCOLN, MRS. MIRIAM ILLSLEY SARVER, (November 18, 1920 - February 4, 2016) a longtime resident of Pontotoc (MS) and later Tupelo (MS), died Thursday, February 4, 2016, in Huntsville, Alabama. While living in Pontotoc, she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and served in many teaching and leadership capacities. During her time in Tupelo she was a resident at Traceway Retirement Community where she was very involved with the library and other activities. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Tupelo. Miriam loved her family and her faith; she enjoyed spending time with friends, playing bridge, gardening and antiquing, and she was an avid golfer. She always opened her heart and her home to those in need. A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, February 21, 2016, at Christ The King Anglican Church in Decherd, Tennessee with the Rev. William Midgett officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastern Star cemetery in Sewanee, Tennessee. Survivors include three sons, Alexander and Karen Lincoln of Lafayette, Louisiana, William and Connie Lincoln of Wilmington, South Carolina, and Carl and Lou Ann Lincoln of Alpharetta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Allyson Lincoln, Cotton Lincoln, Chelsea Lincoln, and Tristan Lincoln; two great-grandchildren, Bella Lincoln and Aerowyn Lincoln; a niece Merry Beth MacNamee of Lawrenceville, New Jersey; and a nephew Edward Illsley of Memphis, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Emma Illsley; husbands, Alexander Benton Lincoln, and Roy Jack Sarver and brother William Augustus Illsley. MEEKS, MRS. MARY ELLEN (BROWN), (1923 2016), age 92, passed away at her home in Coalmont, Tennessee, Monday, February 15, 2016. Mrs. Meeks was born and raised in Coalmont, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, "Doc" and Gertrude (Anderson) Brown; one sister, Sylvia, and her loving husband of 68 years, Paul David Meeks. In her early years she was employed at the Coalmont Company store and later she and her husband worked side-by-side for many years operating the Esso and later Exxon Distributorship in Tracy City, Tennessee. She was a member of the Coalmont Methodist Church where she sung in the choir, and a member of the Coalmont Home Demonstration Club for many years. She took a leading role in organizing the Coalmont cemetery Association as well as the Coalmont Community Center. She will always be remembered for her concern for others and her quick wit. She is survived by 24 nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews, as well as several great-great nieces and nephews; several cousins. Her love for her family was very evident by everyone who knew her, and she will be sadly missed by all family and her many friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 18, 2016 in the Foster & Lay chapel with Reverend Clayton Jones and Brother Ray Winton officiating. Burial followed in the Coalmont Cemetery. SMARTT, MRS. JANIE E., (1939 2016) age 76, of Coalmont, passed away Sunday February 7, 2016 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. She was born in Coalmont, Tennessee on December 17, 1939. She was a member of the Chestnut Springs Congregational Methodist Church and had been a cook at Tracy Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her father, James H. "Mutt" Nunley; 1st husband, Phillip Douglas Nunley; sisters, Gladys McGee and Elaine Shadrick; brothers, Bill, Charles, Maxie and Clarence Nunley. She is survived by her husband, Wayne L. "Trick" Smartt; mother, Mary M. She was born in Manchester, Tennessee November 8, 1951 to Howard Allen and Martha Sue Crabtree Brown who preceded her in death along with her brother, David Brown; sister, Nelda Dykes; nephew, Derrick Brown. She was a long time employee of the Greeter Lumber Company in Altamont and member of the Coalmont United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Rick Rust; son, Richard (Kathy) Rust; daughter, Alicia (James) Walker; brother, Don (Dottie) Brown; grandchildren, Chase, Hagan, Carter, Katie, Jaron, and Kendra; great granddaughter, Jade; loving nieces and nephews. DEAN, MS. VIRGINIA LEE, (1921 2016), age 83, of Gruetli-Laager, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at NHC in Dunlap. Born in Long Island, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late James Mahan and Bertha Smith Mahan, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Elora Flanigan; brother, James Mahan, Jr. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cherie and Wally Mann, Sr., Gruetli-Laager; brother, Mack Mahan (Jo), Chattanooga; grandsons, Wally Mann, Jr. (Shanna) of Tracy City and Tim Mann (Julie), Smyrna; great-grandchildren, Ashton ""Kole"" Mann, Annisten Hayes Mann, Talon Brye Mann, Dalton Eli Mann; a great-grandchild due in March, Harrison Cooper and a great-great-grandchild due in April, Paislynn Mann; nieces, Debra Lee Flanigan, Linda Peterson (Gary) and Lisa Henry (Fred) ; nephews, Michael Douglas Flanigan, Allen Mahan (Ann) . SCHAERER, MR. SAM H., (August 31, 1920 - January passed away at the age of 95 on January 21, 2016 in Memphis, TN. Sam was born on August 31, 1920 in Nashville, TN to his parents, William Henry Crawford and Ethel Hillis Crawford. After the death of his mother a year later, Sam was adopted by his Aunt Georgia Hillis Schaerer and Uncle Sol E. Schaerer, of Tracy City, TN. Sam graduated from Grundy County High School in 1939 and moved to California in 1941 to work for Lockheed Aircraft. In 1943, during WWII, Sam joined the U. S. Navy and retired from service as a 20-year veteran, class E-6. During his early naval training at Navy Pier in Chicago, IL, he met Marie Pfeifer. They were married
in 1946. In 1960 the Schaerer family moved to Fort Myers, FL and built the Lake Lawn Par 3 Golf Course. In 1969 Sam became the owner of a Mister Donut shop and worked there until his retirement in 1981. Sam raised his family in Florida, but always returned to his home in Tracy City every summer for over 50 years. He will be laid to rest in the Tracy City cemetery. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a tireless provider for his family and a man who never knew a stranger. He loved the Lord, his family and Braves baseball! His stories of growing up in Tracy, his adventures in the Navy and his varied career were never ending and will live on in the hearts and minds of his children, grandkids, and great grandkids for many years to come. Sam is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marie Pfeifer Schaerer; his two sons, Ronald E. (Becki) Schaerer of Dallas, TX and Bryan Hillis (Cheryl) Schaerer of Tracy City, TN; his two daughters, GeorgiAnn (Tom) Brown of Memphis, TN and Julie Marie (Jim) Seckman of Decatur, GA; eight grandchildren- Eric, Jessica, Jennifer, Jarrett, Michael, Whitnie, Jacob and Joshua; nine great grandchildren Chase, Kelsi, Jatin, Alyssa, Lola, Audrey, Allison, Sophie and Jonathan. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth Inez Crawford. A celebration of Sams life will be held on January 30, 2016 at Foster & Lay Funeral Home in Tracy City. WHITE, MRS. FLORA LEE, (1946 2016), age 69, of Palmer, passed away Monday January 19, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Palmer, Tennessee on May 20, 1946 to Lee Roy and Ollie Grayson Sanders who preceded her in death along with her husband, Everett Lee White; brother, Phillip Sanders. She was a member and song leader at the Faith Missionary Church of God a very loving mother and caregiver to all. She is survived by her son, James (Melinda) White; daughters, Venetta (John) Poston and Cindy (Jeff) Shrum; nephews she raised as her own sons, Paul Perry, Tracy Perry and Gary Sanders; brother, Clarence Sanders; sisters, Corene Smith, Lorene Wilson and Alene Sanders; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Stacy Smith and Jeremy Robinson officiating. Burial followed in the White Cemetery.
