Helen J. Lynn
Mrs. Helen J. Lynn, age 70, of the Hubbard's Cove Community in Grundy County, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at her daughters home in Greenville, South Carolina. She was born in Grundy County on October 14, 1945 to Clarence and Lydia Mae Fults Northcutt who preceded her in death along with her husband, Clark Lynn; sister, Faye Levan; brothers, Joe, Speakly, Dave, Claudie, Malvin, Milburn, Clayburn, Little Willard and Loyd Edward Northcutt. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly and husband Steve Lowe of Greenville, SC; son, Kelly Lynn, Morrison, Tennessee; sister, Edith "Blondell" and Andy Lockhart of Altamont; grandchildren, Steven and Ethan Lowe; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in the Mount Zion Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.
Gerald Wade Tate
1957 - 2016
Mr. Gerald Wade Tate, age 58, of Gruetli – Laager, passed away Saturday January 2, 2016 at his home. He was born in Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee on December 4, 1957 and was preceded in death by his father, Harley Cleveland Tate; brother-in- law, Tony Rector.
He is survived by his mother, Joan Licht Tate; sister, Lisa Rector; brothers, Grant (Sandra) Tate, Gary Tate, Glenn McNabb; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Stacey Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Fall Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.
Edna Frances Parks
1920 - 2016
Edna Frances, Parks, age 95, of Pelham, TN entered into rest Saturday, January 2, 2016 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. Edna was born September 20, 1920 in Pelham, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents Edgar Harold and Nannie Elizabeth Reider Parks, a sister Zora Bean, three brothers Jonas, Glenn and Charles Parks, and brother-in-law Ralph White Edna was a homemaker and member of Chapmans Chapel Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include her sister Jean White of Bowling Green, KY, two brothers David Parks (Betty) of Orlando, FL, Frank Parks (Shirley) of East Lake, OH, brother-in-law John Bean of Hillsboro, TN. Several nieces and nephews including Deborah Williams (Rick) of Bowling Green, KY, Nancy Parks Wilson of Painesville, OH, Lisa Parks Colboch of Wickliffe, OH, Christopher Parks (Margaret) of Maple Hts, OH, Betty Walsh (Patrick) of Mentor, OH, Kenny Parks (Diane) of Concord, OH, Katherine Clifton (Jim) of Willoughby, OH, Martha Thompson (Larry) Quebec, TN, Mary Ellen Shelton (Joey) of Hillsboro, TN and Randy Bean of Tullahoma, TN, Keith Parks (Joella) of Leesburg, FL, Mike Parks (Candy) and Craig Parks (Lori) of Orlando, FL, also several great and great-great nieces and nephews Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Warren cemetery in Pelham, TN. Mr. James Henry Anderson "Jim - Q Ball", age 68 of Hillsboro, Tennessee, passed away on December 31, 2015 at the Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The funeral service was conducted on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 12 P.M. at Central Funeral Home. The burial followed at the Plainview cemetery in Tracy City, Tennessee with U. S. Mr. Carl Yarworth, age 65, of Tracy City, passed away Monday, December 28, 2015 at St. Thomas West in Nashville, TN. A graveside service was held January 2, 2015 in the Orange Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN.
FULTS, MR. JAMES "MARVIN", age 65, of Tracy City, passed away Monday, December 28, 2015, at Golden Living in Winchester. He was a son of the late Wesley Nunley and Perrie Fults and was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest Ray Kilgore and Raymond Nunley; sister, Shirley Condra and an infant granddaughter. Many knew him as Little James, a master mechanic who loved Chevrolets.
Survivors include his children, Shawn (Tiffany) Allen and Jennifer Allen of Smithville; brothers, Wayne "Smiley" (Nila) Fults and Willie (Rita) Fults; sisters, Betty Fults, Gladys Meeks, Geneva Byford, Elsie Nolan, Hester Partin, Earlene Kilgore, Doris Campbell, Stella Kilgore and Regina Nolan; 5 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Freddie Savage officiating and Sister Patsy Savage singing. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. MYERS, MR. DONALD RAY, (September 5, 1954 - December 23, 2015), age 61, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at his Residence with his family by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mildred Jewell Myers; brother, Kenneth Wayne Myers.
Survivors include his wife Debra Myers, Tracy City, TN; son, Donald (Beth) Myers, Ray City, GA; daughter, LaDonna (Nathan) Smith, Tullahoma, TN; brothers, Butch and Larry Myers both of Tracy City, TN; sister, Linda Sue Merrell, Monteagle, TN; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.
The family will be having a private memorial service at a later date.

SMITH, 1st Sgt. WILLIAM LEE, (10/13/1946 – 12/21/2015) USMC Retired left this world for glory on December 21, 2015 at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, MS. 1st Sgt William L. Smith a native of Chattanooga was a resident of Jacksonville, NC. He is survived by his loving wife Rhonda Smith 4 stepchildren Jason Meeks (Rhonda) Coalmont TN, Peyton Yokley (Brandy) Smithville TN, Asha Yokley Woodbury TN, and Natasha Prince Manchester, TN. 7 Grandchildren, 3 Nephews and one Niece. He is preceded in death by his mother Una Hartman Smith, Chattanooga, TN. Mr. Smith was a wonderful husband, son-in-law, stepfather, and grandfather. He was loved by his family and friends. 1st Sgt Smith was a highly decorated Marine and veteran of the Vietnam War, saw conflicts in other countries and was at the bombing in Beirut, Lebanon. He received the Bronze Star Combatfor Heroism and 1st Purple Heart in Vietnam where he was wounded severely in the throat unable to rise. He stoically continued to direct, control and encourage his fire team until he was evacuated. A Navy Commendation Medal and 2nd Purple Heart with device were also awarded for heroic achievement while serving as squad leader during which he sustained a sever leg wound. Although unable to walk he directed his unit’s movement with verbal commands, arm and hand signals. Crawling through the exposed rice paddy, he effectively controlled the squad until the enemy force was routed from it prepared positions and forced to flee. He later served as Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor at Paris Island, SC. He was appointed to serve the Chattanooga and Southeast region as Recruiter for the United States Marine Corp. 1st Sgt Smith received a total of 11 medals, and 22 ribbons as well as other awards for his service to the United States while serving in the Marine Corps. Graveside service with military honors will be held December 29, 2015 at 2:00 p m EST at Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN
SUMMERS, MRS. LAURA, SUE, age 79, of Monteagle, passed away at her home on Monday, December 21. She was a daughter of the late John Kelly Church and Dosia Meeks Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ray Summers; brothers, John Kenneth "Buck" Church and Glen E. Church; special aunt, Clara Mable Lawson. She was a retired pharmacy technician. Survivors include a brother, Bill (Shirley) Moon; sisters-in-law, Betty Church and Margaret Johnson; nieces and nephews, Cindy Church, Pam Church, Karen Gipson, Sherry Guyear, Ernie Church, Roxanne Johnson and Billy Moon; special cousins, Sharon Cochran and Craig Lawson; numerous great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Danny Coffelt officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday 12 noon until hour of service. Arrangements were provided by Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, TN.
HARGIS, MRS. DORIS ALLENE,
Born February 3, 1929 in Palmer, TN Deceased December 19, 2015 in Tucson, AZ Affectionately known as “Squeak”, Allene was the daughter of Graham Nunley and Sarah Cannon Nunley of Grundy County, TN (both deceased) . She was preceded in death by husband Clayton Ray Hargis (12-02-71), son Roland Clay Hargis (05-01-73), and grandson Nathan M. Hargis (Nate) (07-16-2005) . She is survived by sisters Judy Elliott (Charles deceased) of South Pittsburg, TN and Clara Ruth Tate Holt (Bill deceased) of Jasper, TN. ; and brother Billy Ray Nunley (Ruth Bouldin Nunley) of Gruetli-Laager, TN. Daughters Venessa Hargis Ziegler (Mark) of Tucson, AZ, Angela Hargis Linder of Palm Beach, FL, Sarah Hargis Gant of Tucson, AZ. Sons Steve Hargis (Myleen) of Los Angeles, CA, Nathan Hargis of Tampa, FL, Michael Hargis of Albuquerque, NM and Jeffery Hargis of Albany, GA. Fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Squeak loved her family deeply and was loved deeply by each of them.
Allene was born and raised in Grundy County, TN, living in Palmer, Coalmant, and Gruetli-Laager. She attended Palmer Elementary and Grundy County High where she was a four year letterman in basketball and a cheerleader. She also attended David Lipscomb College. Allene and family moved to South Pittsburg, TN, in the 1960’s. She worked for many years at the South Pittsburg Knitting Mills, helping support her eight children. After the unexpected death of her husband, Clayton Ray Hargis, Allene moved to Florida and lived there for many years. She spent the final thirteen years living with her daughter Venessa in Florida and Arizona. She leaves behind a loving family, and many friends and neighbors who mourn the loss of a great lady and friend. Allene requested a simple graveside service and will be laid to rest at Fall Creek cemetery between her husband and son. Rest in peace, Squeak.
