Herman Nolan
1937 - 2015
Mr. Herman Nolan, age 77, of Palmer, passed away at his home Saturday November 21, 2015 with his family at his side. He was a US Army veteran and was retired from the B & O Railroad and attended the Bivens Chapel Church. He was born in Palmer, Tennessee on December 12, 1937 to Claude and Ruby Lee Haynes Nolan who preceded him in death along with his sisters, Margaret and Carolyn; brothers, Wes, Jim, Edward and Alvin Nolan. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Olamae Nolan; son, Gary Kent (Allison) Nolan; daughters, Sandra Kaye and Brenda Claudette Nolan; sister, Dorothy "Dottie" (Dennis) Sweeton; brothers, Marvin (Betty), Charleston (Elsie), Lecil (Carol), Carl (Kathy) and Tex Nolan; grandchildren, Kylee Jordan Nolan, Aaron Kent Nolan, Malena Woodward and Ethan James Woodward; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Berry Nolan and Bro. Larry Campbell officiating with burial following in the Palmer cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

Lynda Darlene Tate
Lynda Darlene Tate, age 57, of Coalmont, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday November 17, 2015 at Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. She was a christian lady that liked the simple things in life. She loved spending time with family and friends, and being outdoors most of all she loved spending as much time as she could with her grandson, Tristan and granddaughter, Shelby. She will be sadly missed by mom and dad, Alton and Elizabeth Tate Sr; daughter, Saberina Little; son, Gene Little; brothers, Alton Tate, Jr., Soddy-Daisy and Mark Tate, Signal Mountain, Wallace Edwin Tate, Madison, AL; sister, Tammy Tate; grandchildren, Tristan and Shelby Little, Alexis King and Draven Hobbs; great grandson, Kayden Little; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Chris Parris and Lanny Tate officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

Frank Brown - Mr. Frank Brown, age 76, of Coalmont, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Frank was a member of the American Legion, he received the Veteran's Award from the Grundy County Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Clara Brown; wife, Nellie D. Brown; son, Daniel Wade Brown; brothers, Steven and Roddy Brown. Survivors include his son Rudy A. Brown, Coalmont, TN; sister, Jennie Tate; four grandchildren, Zachary Brown, Kirby, Alexandra, and Bailey. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 22, 2015 in the Foster & Lay funeral home chapel with Brother Ray Winton and Brother Clayton Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Coalmont Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN.

Jerry M. Pocus
1938 - 2015
Jerry M. Pocus, of Carnesville, Georgia, went to be with his Lord on October 16, 2015 after an extended fight with cancer. Mr. Pocus was born in Palmer, Tennessee on December 11, 1938. He attended Grundy County High School and upon graduation, immediately joined the United States Air Force. He spent over 21 years serving his country. After retiring from the Air Force, Jerry was a nuclear engineer for the power industry, which took Jerry to many different places. Jerry saw and did more in his lifetime than most of us can imagine. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Palmer, Tennessee. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, George Pocus & Millie Henry Barker McCullough; two sisters: Yvonne Wachob and Anna Reece Meadows. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Joan Wilson Pocus, of Carnesville, GA; Two daughters: Sherrie Pocus Clarke and Jerri Anne Pocus Cooper, both of Florida; Two sisters: Mary Emaline Pocus London and Donna McCullough Dixon, both of Tennessee; Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 11 am, Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Ginn Funeral Home Chapel. Military Honors will be observed following the memorial services. Arrangements were provided by Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, GA.

William Lee "Bill" Sanders
1957 - 2015
Mr. William Lee "Bill" Sanders, age 58, of Palmer, passed away Friday November 13, 2015 in Evansville, Indiana. He was born in San Diego, California on May 13, 1957 to Phillip and Virgie Jane Wallace Sanders who preceded him in death along with his sister, Donna Sanders and his companion, Sandy Green. He is survived by his son, Billy Joe Sanders; granddaughters, Haley Sanders and Lacy Green; step-son, Ricky Green; step-daughter, Tina Green; sister, Debbie (Bobby) Taylor; brothers, Phillip (Denia) Sanders and James (Connie) Sanders; uncle, Clarence Sanders; aunts, Flora White, Corine Cox, Lorene Wilson and Allene Sanders; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in the Fall Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

Sam Stevens
STEVENS, SAM, age 56, of Tracy City, TN, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Services in Sewanee. Sam was a truck driver and was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Willie Layne; paternal grandparents, Foster and Ethel Stevens; first wife, Georgia Lee Stevens; son, Joshua Stevens. He is survived by his wife, Elise Stevens; children, Amanda Stevens, Mark Stevens, and Brian Walden; mother, Susie (sisters, Susan Williams, Jennifer (Daryll) Smiley, and Denise Hill; brother, Troy Stevens; step brother, John Peck; step-sister, Patty McNeal; grandchildren, Falon, Georgia Lee, Vivian, Aiden, and Lucas; several nieces, nephews, and friends. Arrangements were provided by Foster and Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN.

Ronnie Lee Worley
Ronnie Lee Worley, age 62, of Monteagle, Tennessee, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015, in Brandon, Florida. Ronnie was born in Lynch, Kentucky, a son of the late James William Worley and Margaret Louise "Sue" Guess Worley; sister, Agnes Louise Worley. He was a brick mason and attended Sweeton Hill Congregational Methodist Church. Ronnie enjoyed the outdoors playing golf and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Worley; daughter, Brooke; brothers, James Edward, Bobby Ray, Steve Michael and Phillip Paul Worley; sisters, Linda Lynn Reas, Sandra Elaine Sanders; several nieces and nephews; 3 grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Reverend John Potts officiating. Burial will be in Monteagle Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, TN.

Oscar Thomas Perkins
1924 – 2015
Oscar Thomas Perkins, departed this life on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Golden Living Center. He was born February 18, 1924 in Hillsboro, TN to the late Thomas Nathan and Jessie Ikard Perkins. A Service was held at the Holy Covenant Church of God in Winchester, TN on November 14, 2015. Interment followed at Watson-North Memorial Park in Winchester. Arrangements were provided by Watson-North Funeral Home, Winchester, TN.

Betty Jean Sanders
1936 - 2015
Mrs. Betty Jean Sanders, age 79, of Coalmont, passed away Tuesday November 10, 2015 from injuries she received from a fall. She was a member of the Mount Ararat Cumberland Methodist Church. She was born in Tracy City on January 22, 1936 to Raymond and Jessie Graham King who preceded her in death along with her husband Jessie Houston Sanders; brothers, George and Charles King. She is survived by her son, Larry (Brenda) Sanders, Coalmont; daughter, Joyce (Robert) Henn, Monteagle; brothers, William and Kenneth King of California; grandchildren, Keith, Matthew, Ashley and Bobby; great grandchildren, Will, Xander and Tanner; several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services were held Friday at the Orange Hill cemetery with Bro. Leslie Sanders officiating. Arrangements were provided by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

TYLOR, MRS. DOLA V., age 100, of Winchester, Virginia, died Tuesday, November 10, in Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury. Mrs. Tylor was born February 5, 1915 in Gruetli, Tennessee, one of the original Swiss colonies, the daughter of the late Christian Peter and Ethel Tate Schild. A music teacher actually named Dola by combining two notes of the musical scale! Dola began her education in a one room schoolhouse in Grundy County Tennessee and she completed her education some 37 years later graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. She held various positions over the years but spent the longest period of her working career as a draftsman with the Army Corp of Engineers in Okinawa, Japan where she met her future husband. She married Richard (Dick) R. Tylor in 1949 in Okinawa, Japan. Dick and Dola eventually transferred to Winchester, Virginia with the Army Corp of Engineers where Mr. Tylor continued to work as an engineer and Mrs. Tylor retired and began a long career of volunteer work giving her time to various organizations including the Handley Regional Library Archives. In fact she wrote a book "Winchester, Virginia Abstracts of Wills" highlighting Wills in Winchester and Frederick County. Dola enjoyed writing and studying poetry, gardening, birding, the outdoors (in summer!), and research of any kind (especially in the area of genealogy) . She also published a book of her poems. In her later years she loved time spent in the sun or by the fireplace reading. Her quick wit was enjoyed by friends, both new and old. She will be dearly missed by anyone who had the privilege of meeting her. She is survived by her brother, Roy Christian Schild (Hideko Kinjo) of Berryville, Virginia. Interment will be at 11:00 am, Friday, November 13, in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson, Tennessee, where her beloved husband Dick was buried in 2011. A Memorial Service will be conducted at Westminster Canterbury at 3:00 pm, Monday, November 16. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Dola's memory to Handley Regional Library Archives Room, 100 W. Piccadilly Street, Winchester, Virginia 22601 or to the Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury Fellowship Fund, 300 Westminster Canterbury Drive, Winchester, Virginia 22603. Arrangements were provided by Omps Funeral Home, Winchester, VA.
