Ernest Carmon Myers

Ernest Carmen Myers, born June 11, 1922 in Pelham. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Campbell Myers, his wife, Bonnie Patterson Myers, second wife, Ruth Lassiter Myers. Brothers; William Floyd Myers, Thomas Pascal Myers, James Myrtle Myers, Archie Ross Myers, Carl David Myers, Edgar Allen Myers. Sisters; Gladys Gordon, Sula Mae Edwards, Georgia Lee Simmons. He is survived by his son, Lavon Myers, grandson, Lee Don Myers, granddaughter, Lori McBee, 2 great grandchildren, Colt and Case McBee and one sister, Malinda Jeweldean Scheer who is 102 years old. He is also survived by his so special caretaker, Glenda Patterson, an angel by his side for the past few years. He so loved “that woman down the street”. He was a machinist at AEDC for many years where he retired. He went on to enjoy his love of farming and raising cattle. He enjoyed many days on the lake fishing and enjoyed sharing his catches with his friends and family. He even tried to help people, especially Lavon. They were all fishing one time and Carmon and Ruth were the only ones catching fish. Lavon and his friend were right behind them doing the same thing they were doing. Carmon even gave them the same plugs he was using and they still couldn’t catch anything. They couldn’t help but laugh at these two. They finally decided to leave with “some people just can’t be helped!! Lavon also recalled many fun adventures with his dad squirrel and rabbit hunting. He was part of a big family and enjoyed many years of getting together with them as they held family reunions. He was surrounded by friends and family the previous evening and was able to tell everyone how much he loved them and appreciated them. He died peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning, August 13th. He will be missed by everyone. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p. m., Friday, August 15, 2014 in the Cumberland Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend De Hennessy officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, Pelham, Tennessee. Anita Jean Sanders, age 51, of Monteagle, Tennessee, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at Erlanger Hospital, Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Annette Patterson; two sons, DeWayne (Jennifer) Sanders and Brian Lee (Cristin) Sanders; brothers, Wayne, Dennis and Steve Patterson; sisters, Sherry Patterson, Rita Guess, Julie McFalls and Franny Patterson; three grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew, and Nelson, Jr., Brandon Taylor, Brianna Gawrys and Ethan Gawrys; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 15, 2014 in the funeral home chapel with Elder Franklin Hill and Reverend Bobby Winton officiating. Burial will follow in the Summerfield Cemetery. Altamont - Mrs. Lorene Barrett, 81, passed away Monday August 11, 2014. She was born in Altamont on July 19, 1933 to Floyd and Ollie Faye Sanders Fitch who preceded her in death along with her brother, Douglas Fitch.
She is survived by her sons, Leonard, Hugh (Mary) and Johnny Barrett; daughters, Phyllis (Gary) Jenkins, Dresden, TN and Nancy Judkins, Altamont; brothers, Chester (Mae) Fitch, Altamont, Wilfred (Marie) Fitch, Cohutta, GA; sisters, Etheleen Hobbs, Altamont, Pauline Wellman, Morrison and Cathy Bailey, Centertown; companion, Jimmy Sweeton, Altamont; 2 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Clayton Jones officiating with burial to follow in the Altamont Cemetery. Visitation: 3:00 PM - 9:00 PM Tuesday at Layne Funeral Home.

Gruetli-Laager - Mrs. Margie Joan Finch, 60, passed away Sunday August 10, 2014. She was born in Nauvoo, Alabama on January 11, 1954 to Howard and Stella Andrews Wideman who preceded her in death along with her husband, Jimmy Dale Finch; son, Shawn Dale Finch; granddaughter, Chasity Lacha Sanders; brother, Kenneth Wideman.
She is survived by her daughter, Tiffany Dawn Finch; granddaughters, Shelby Joan Finch and Destiny Faith Sanders; brothers, Dennis (Carol) and Kirby Dan (Ginger) Wideman; sisters, Frances Stockwell (Late Charles), Peggy (Carl) Finch, Mary White and Vicky Bivens; several nieces and nephews. Graveside Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Monday August 11, 2014 at the White cemetery with Minister Mike Rigsby officiating.
Andy Wesley Nunley

Andy Wesley Sam Nunley age 48 of Tracy City passed away Wednesday at his home. He had worked at Nunley Poultry for many years and was a truck driver. He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Nunley.
Survivors include his daughter, Whitney Nunley; fiancée, Amanda Meeks; sister, Betty Jo Turner; special friend, Shanna Mann; grandchildren, Abby and Kaegan Nunley; aunts, Sue Shetters, Sherwood and Martina Sheridan, Sewanee.
Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Plainview cemetery with Reverend Andy Lockhart officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 8:00 A.M. until time of services at the funeral home.

Martha Cates Buffington (Died August 5, 2014) Martha Cates Buffington (“Marty”), age 68, of Monteagle, TN, passed away August 5th, 2014. She was born on June 13, 1946 in Elizabethton, TN to the late Ray A and Ellen Earthman Cates. She graduated from Ocala High School in 1964 and received a B. A. from Samford University in 1968. Marty was a high school English teacher before she became a full-time homemaker. She was a member of the Charity League of Birmingham, AL and served on the Administrative Council of Mountain Brook Baptist Church. In addition, she served on the 1996 Olympic Committee that hosted the Olympic soccer events in Birmingham. She was one of the hostesses at the Olympic Village. In 2001, Marty and her husband moved to Monteagle, TN, where she served as Education Chairman for the Morton Memorial United Methodist Church. She also served on their Administrative Council. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly and served as their Landscaping Committee Chairperson. She is survived by her husband Ronald Paul Buffington of Monteagle, TN; her brother Ray A Cates, Jr. of Ocala, FL; her children Holly Buffington Stevens of Atlanta, GA, Heather Buffington Barry of Birmingham, AL, Jonathan Paul Buffington of Manchester, Tennessee, and Rebecca Buffington Beckler of Dana Point, California; and her grandchildren William Bruce Kimbrough IV, Robert Andrew Stevens, Catherine Bennett Stevens, Raelyn Electra Beckler, and Renick James Beckler. Funeral arrangements will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, August 9th, 2014, at the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly Chapel in Monteagle, TN.
HAMPTON, JOHNNIE RUTH, age 77, of Palmer TN, passed away Wednesday August 6, 2014, at her home with her family at her side. She was a member of the Palmer Church of God. She was born in White County, Tennessee on February 27, 1937 to John A. and Nellie Dykes Cordell who preceded her in death along with her sister, Helen Summers. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Kenny) Knight, Estill Springs, Ruth Ann Hampton (Rod Harrison), Hixson; sons, Randy (Rena) Hampton and Wesley (Roxanne) Hampton both of Palmer; sister, Geneva Hancock, Crossville; brother, Clifford (Joyce) Cordell, Palmer; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the family and Bro. Bill Smith officiating with burial at Brown’s Chapel cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

SEALE, ROY GLENN, age 54, of Tullahoma, TN, passed away Monday, August 4, 2014, in Harton Regional Medical Center. A native of Bridgeport, Alabama, Roy was the son of the late James Carl Seale and Hazel Kirk Seale. “Big Roy” was a Titans fan and loved the outdoors especially deer hunting. He was a police officer during his working life until he was forced to retire due to failing health. He started his career in law enforcement with the Kimball Police Department, then Monteagle Police Department and then joined the Sewanee Police Department and worked until his retirement.
Survivors include his sons, Jason (Nikki) Seale, and Bruce (Nickie) Seale, Concord, CA; brother, James E. (Lib) Seale, Bridgeport; sister, Linda (Gary) Loyd, Stevenson; grandson, Isaiah Seale; special friend, Jackie Parker; several nieces, nephews and aunts.
Visitation for Big Roy will be Wednesday from 8-5 P.M. at Cumberland Funeral Home in Monteagle with additional visitation Thursday 4-8 P.M. at Valley Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jeff Armstrong officiating. NOLAN, KATHERINE KILGORE, age 67, of Whitwell, TN, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. W. & Tiny Ann Kilgore; sister, Julie Ann Kilgore; brothers, John Kilgore, Jr., Ellis Kilgore, Tommy Kilgore. Those left to cherish her memories are a daughter, Scarlett Nolan of Griffith Creek; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Julie & Phillip; sister, JoAnn (Earl) Geary of Tracy City; four brothers, Waymon Kilgore, Marty Kilgore, Patrick (Paige) Kilgore & Jackie Kilgore all of Whitwell; special niece, Regina Clark; several nieces & nephews.
