PAYNE, LAYNE RITA MRS. Rita Layne Payne age 64 of Tracy City, Tennessee passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014, in Southern Tennessee Medical Center. She was a daughter of the late Ernest Layne and Auline Campbell Layne and was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Roy Payne; grandson, Floyd Kevin O;Dear, II. Survivors include her sons, Floyd Kevin O’Dear (Angie) and Troy Nelson Payne both of Tracy City; sister, Cathy (Jimmy) Lyle, Jasper; grandchildren, Toni Nicole Worley, Ashly Dawn O’Dear, Derrick Burgess O’Dear and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in Plainview Cemetery. The Reverend Clayton Jones will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday 5-9 P.M. at the funeral home. Foster & Lay Funeral Home of Tracy City is in charge of arrangements

BROWN, TAMMY LEE, 39, passed away at her home Wednesday, January 22, 2014. She was born in Buffalo, New York on August 6, 1974 and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law Carol Brown. She is survived by her husband, David Brown; mother, Nora Ryan, Monteagle; father, Earl (Doris) Wockasen, Altamont; sons, Christian, Ryan and Aaron Brown of Beersheba Springs, David Mark Brown of Florida; sisters, Kristy Sutherland and Sommer Anderson; brothers, Tony (Tonya), Daniel (Meleigha) and David Wockasen; father-in-law, Mike Brown of Florida; nieces, Lauren, Emma and Delilah; nephew, Logan. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 25 in the funeral home chapel with Minister Johnny Gross officiating. Burial was in Airview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to help with funeral expenses. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.

BURNETT, FRANKIE E., age 95, died Friday, January 24, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Gruetli-Laager. She was born December 8, 1918 to Tampico and Laden Golston. She was a faithful wife, loving mother, grandmother and a friend to many. She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her loving husband, Carl David Burnett; brothers, Issac William “Tid” and George Edward Golston; sister, Katherine; daughter, Joan McBee; granddaughter, Sherry McBee. She is survived by her son, George David (Jeri) Burnett; daughter, Bonita (Herby) Hart; 5 grandchildren, Joy and Jennifer Burnett, Shawn (Sonja) Hart, Chad (April) McBee, Gretchen Hart; 6 great grandchildren, Taylon Honeycutt, Kendell Wideman, Shelby Burnett, Tyler Myers, Taylor and Landon McBee and Dylan Hart. The family would like to thank Marsha Clabbers RN, Vanessa Meeks, CNA and Tina Barger, Social Worker from Avalon Hospice for the compassionate care they provided over the past 3 years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Avalon Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association. Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, January 26 at the Coalmont cemetery with Minister David VanHorn officiating. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

LAYNE, KENT A., 77, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014. He was a US Army veteran and a retired truck driver. He was born in Palmer, Tennessee on September 2, 1936 to Joe C. and Hazel Morrison Layne who preceded him in death along with his brother, Joey Layne. He is survived by his wife, Doris Sanders Layne; sons, Darren (Tammy) Layne of Hixson and Keith Layne of Palmer; sister, Linda Layne; brother, Jerry (Jimmie) Layne, both of Florida; grandson, Jacob; granddaughter, Katrina; great granddaughter, Hadleigh; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 28 in the funeral home chapel with Minister Willard Griffin officiating. Burial was in Fall Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

RIEDER, WILLIAM JONAS, age 37, of Roswell and Pooler, Georgia, passed away on January 20, 2014. He was born September 14, 1976 in Nashville, Tennessee. He attended West Georgia State College and was a founding member of the KA Fraternity. He also attended Armstrong State University in Savannah, GA. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. Surviving include his parents, Don and Mary Rieder of Rincon, GA; sisters, Dana (Joey) Sharp of Carrolton, GA and Liesel (Paul) Reidenbach of Long Island, NY; nephew, Kenny Reidenbach and niece, Shirley Sharp. Graveside services were held Sunday, January 26, in Warren Cemetery, Pelham, TN with Pastor A. Richard Smith officiating. Local arrangements were made by Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, Winchester, TN.

LEITZEL, JESSIE “JESS” ROBERT, 71, of Estill Springs, a longtime member of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, died Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Alvin C. York Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro. A native of Sunbury, Pa., he was also a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. He began his THP career as a trooper in 1965 in Hamilton County, later assigned to Grundy County and then Franklin County. He was selected to attend Northwestern University Traffic Institute in Evanston, Ill., from October 1970 through June 1971. After graduation from Northwestern, he was assigned to the THP Planning and Research Division in Nashville. A new rank, staff sergeant, was created in 1973 for each district headquarters, and he was promoted to that rank on Aug. 1, 1973, and assigned as the first staff sergeant of the Chattanooga District Office. Before retiring from the THP in 1978, he was promoted to road lieutenant responsible for Franklin and Coffee counties. He ended his career in law enforcement as a patrolman for the Estill Springs Police Department from where he retired in July of 1995. He is survived by his wife, Jan Leitzel, Estill Springs; children, Rita Stephens, Estill Springs; Donna Isenhour, Tullahoma; Philip Isenhour, Inverness, Fla., and Tammy Leitzel and Vicki Newland, both of Arlington, Texas; brothers, Donald Leitzel Jr., Allentown, Pa., and Dane Leitzel and wife Shelia, Cowan; sister, DeAnna Short, Allentown, Pa. ; eight grandchildren, Kayla Stephens, Lindsey (Carl) Tucker, Jamie Holland, Dylan Kulik, Cassie Kulik, Shaina Isenhour, Colton Isenhour and Cameron Newland; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services with military honors and Law Enforcement Honor Guard, was held Monday, January 27, in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Bro. Carl Tucker officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Multi-County Cancer Support Network, P. O. Box 1355, Tullahoma, TN 37388.

MCNABB, ETHLEEN SITZ, 97, of Dunlap, TN died Monday, January 27, 2014 at her home. The daughter of the late Virgil Henry and Maggie Lou Levan Sitz, she was a graduate of Grundy County High School, was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years and was a member of Kimball Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Howard and Heelen Griswold. She is survived by her husband of 77 years, William Crandel McNabb, of Dunlap; her children, Lanny (Janie) McNabb of Signal Mt., TN and Janice (David) McAnally of Dunlap, TN; six grandchildren, Jim (Lisa) McNabb, of Franklin, TN, Scott (Sara) McNabb, of Roswell, GA, Nathan McNabb, of Atlanta, GA, Amy (David) Lamitina, of Lawrenceville, GA, David (Cathy) McAnally, Jr., of Alpharetta, GA, and Casey (Kellee) McAnally, of Dunlap, TN; brother, Lewis Sitz, of Denver, CO; sister, Frances Gratigny, of Powell, TN; step-grandchildren, Meg (Steve) Bandy, Anna (Talley) Clower, J. B. (Wendy) Glass and C. C. (Bobby) Edwards; ten great-grandchildren, Chase McAnally, Chandler McAnally, Harrison McAnally, Zack McAnally, Hayley McAnally, Ian McNabb, Jake McNabb, Charlie McNabb, Grace McNabb and Jessica McNabb; thirteen step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the Kimball Church of Christ on Thursday, January 30 with Billy Watkins officiating. Interment was in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, P. O. Box 19269, Chattanooga, TN 37416. LAYNE, “ALEX” ANDER BENSON “DUDE,” age 84, of Huachuca City, AZ, passed away January 9, 2014, after a long battle with pneumonia. He was born in Monteagle, TN, the son of Arthur Alexander “Alex” Layne and Emma Rose (King) Layne. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Cleveland Layne and Bonnie Rowan Layne and two sisters, Wilhelmenia “Boots” Mullins and Artie Mae Lappin. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Mary Sue (Church) Layne, Huachuca City, AZ; one daughter, Deborah Sue Davis (Tom), Tucson, AZ; one granddaughter, Michelle Lopez (Eric) and two great granddaughters, Hallie and Trinity of Tucson, AZ; two sisters, Mary Rebecca Boyd, MS and Patricia Ann “Patsy” Harris, Portage, IN and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a retired U. S. Army Sgt E6 and spent 22 years in the military serving in Germany, France and 6 tours in Korea. His ashes will be buried at the Fort Huachuca Cemetery. Alex Benson was one of the kindest, most thoughtful men ever created by the Father. He was of the Christian faith and lived it every day, seeing only the good in everyone he met. He loved his hometown of Monteagle and spent many hours in the last years of his life talking about those years spent growing up in the small community. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

PERRY, ROBERT EDWARD “BUCK,” SR., 84, passed away at his home Sunday, January 19, 2014. He attended Bivens Chapel Congregational Methodist Church and was born in the Hills Creek Community in Warren County on April 24, 1929 to Joe Wheeler Perry and Lela Brown Perry who preceded him in death along with his sisters, Ruby Perry and Louise Stevenson. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Nolan Perry; son, Robert E. Perry Jr. ; daughter, Charlene Nunley; brother, Jerry Floyd “Rusty” Perry; grandchildren, Michelle Whiteaker, Jason and Jared Nunley, Amanda Burnett, Robert Craig and Michael Perry; great grandchildren, Alex, Keanen, Ethan, Evan and Urijah Nunley, Anna Whiteaker and Kara Perry; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 21 in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Freddie Savage, Ernest Lockhart and Larry Campbell officiating. Burial was in Hills Creek cemetery in Warren County. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.
