Ali Mae Shipley Thurman, 75, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Home.
She was a homemaker, a member of Fort Hudson Baptist Church and assisted her husband in the ministry for 50 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of J.W. Curry & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Layman and the Rev. Tom Pirtle officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, the Rev. Thomas Childress Thurman; three sons, Thomas C. Thurman and wife, Kimberly of Olive Branch, Miss., David R. Thurman and wife Susan of Manchaca, Texas and Billy D. Thurman of Houston, Texas; a sister, Mary Tinkle of Dyersburg; a brother, Algie Shipley of Dyersburg; six grandchildren, Lisa Kazempour, Darin Thurman, David Thurman, Jeff Thurman, Troy Thurman and Lacy Thurman; and two great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan M. and Minnie M. Crocker Shipley; a sister; and seven brothers.

Billie C. Ozment, 87, of Dyersburg, died Monday, July 15, 2002 at her residence.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of J.W. Curry & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Boston officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Emily Coleman and husband, Mike of Dyersburg and Janey Rogers and husband Kenneth of Covington; a sister, Emeline Hines of Dyersburg; and two grandchildren, Kacie Coleman and Kyle Coleman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Ozment; and a brother, Lewis Champion.

Pallbearers will be Randy Cook, Milton Magee, Bill Jones, Frank Horner and Howard Guthrie. Bob B. Sanford

Bob B. Sanford, 84, of Friendship, died Monday, July 15, 2002 at his residence. He was a retired farmer and a member of Friendship Church of Christ.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Friendship Church of Christ with Jeff Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Bellevernon Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 5-9 p.m. today at Friendship Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Survivors include his wife, Eva Dell Sanford of Friendship; a son, Steven Sanford of Friendship; and two grandsons, Jeremy Sanford of Crockett Mills and Jarrod Sanford of Brighton.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Sanford, Jarrod Sanford, James Sansom, Jimmy Wilson, Tommy Holland and Jerry Eskew.

Lucy Elizabeth Hockaday, 92, of Friendship, died Monday, July 15, 2002 at Crockett County Nursing Home in Alamo.
She was a homemaker.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Friendship Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Hockaday and Jeff Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Bellevernon Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The widow of William Andrew Hockaday, survivors include three daughters, Joyce Warren and Sara Reeves, both of Nashville and Ann Tillman of Friendship; three sons, William A. Hockaday of Donphen, Mo., Andrew O. Hockaday of Saginaw, Texas and Thomas Hockaday of Goodlettsville ; a brother, Wallace Morgan of Friendship; 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Andy Woods, Ashley Woods, John Rice, Jay Rice, Richard Carlisle, Daniel Tillman, Kenneth Tillman, Steve Reeves and John David Hockaday.

Serita Denise Gauldin, 24, of Dyersburg, died Friday, July 12, 2002 at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Dyersburg High School gym with the Rev. Cecil Madoxx officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. H.H. Hudson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive visitors at 11 a.m. at the gym.

Survivors include her parents, Cora Edwards and Albert Gauldin, both of Dyersburg; two sisters, Stephanie Phelps of Dyersburg and Latisha Gauldin of Flint, Mich.;and two brothers, Brian Gauldin and Terrell Gauldin, both of Dyersburg.

Eusona Criswell Tipton, 77, of Doniphan, Mo., died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Current River Nursing Center in Doniphan.
She was a retired employee of Vitronics and an artist and was a Baptist. Services were held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan with the Rev. Willie Joe Price officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, Clovie Yvonne Lee of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, Robert Joe Lee Sr. of Doniphan, Mo.; an aunt, Marjorie Shepherd of Dyersburg; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Tipton; her parents, Lawrence and Brownie Criswell; and a brother, Joe Criswell.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Henry Quello of Dyersburg; and her father, David Threlkeld of Dyersburg. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hester Threlkeld. Pallbearers will be Aaron Tate, John Tate, Timothy Tate, Larry Clements, Terry Clements and Gary Clements.

The family will receive visitors from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife, Edith Walker of Newbern; two daughters, Brenda Gaskins of Newbern and Kathy Whitson of Trimble; two sons, Kenneth Walker of Churchton and Ralph Walker of Lichfield, S.C.; a sister, Sarah Strzalka of Stockbridge, Miss.; six grandchildren, Chrissie Clark, Steven Whitson, Justin Walker, Evan Walker, Austin Gaskins and Morgan Walker; and a great-grandchild, Suzie Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cannon and Eva  Woods Walker; and two brothers, Charles Walker and William Walker. Pallbearers will be Tim Ramsey, David Ring, Jerry Ring, Dewayne Biggers, Justin Hassell and Matthew Marbrey. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Welch, George Viar and Bill Climer.

He was an employee of Forked Deer Electric and a member of First United Pentecostal Church. Services were at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of J.W. Curry & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael McClenney officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Anderson of Dyersburg; four daughters, Michelle Pruitt, Marie Anderson Roberson, Cindy Sanford and Tonya Seratt, all of Dyersburg; a son, Allen Anderson Jr. of Dyersburg; his mother, Lillie Anderson of Dyersburg; a sister, Helen Russell of Dyersburg; four brothers, Alvie Anderson, Dan Anderson, Roger Anderson and John Wayne Anderson, all of Dyersburg; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, James Anderson. Pallbearers were Charles Anderson, Bryan Russell, Charles Russell, Jewel Russell Jr., William Pierce and Kenneth Hankins. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Anderson Jr., Edward Pruitt and Steven Sanford.

Jack Harwell Smith, 75,of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Friendship, died Saturday, July 13, 2002 at Cape Coral Community Hospital.
He was owner and operator of a brokerage trucking company, a 32nd-degree Mason at Scottish Rite Valley Lodge of South Bend, Ind., a World War II Navy veteran, a member of Masonic Lodge 643 and a member of Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, both of Sioux City, Iowa. He also participated in rodeos and showed quarter horses.

Masonic graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Dyer County Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive visitors from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Smith of Cape Coral, Fla.; seven daughters, Kathleen Matney of Cape Coral, Fla., Jacqueline Smith of Kinderhook, Mich., Cynthia Loose of Harvest, Ala., Dina Brown of Naples, Fla., Lisa Hendrix of Baldwin, Miss., Carrie Fowler of Columbus, Miss., and Tyra Smith of Portland, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Marcella Soldano of Cape Coral, Fla.; a son, Michael Smith of Coldwater, Mich.; two stepsons, John Dorn of Artesian, S.D. and Lance Cpl. David Soldano of San Diego, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Merle Harwell Smith.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to Shrine Hospital Burn Unit.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Hickman, Ky. Burial will be in Hickman City Cemetery. Cosmopolitan Funeral Services are in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his companion, Joann Davis of South Fulton, Ky.; three daughters, Rena Prichard and Tamara Pritchard, both of Dyersburg and Christy Gamble of Hickman, Ky.; a son, Jimmy Mays of Hickman, Ky.; a sister, Lara B. Monday of Kansas City, Mo.; and a brother, Alton Pritchard of Ridgely.

Raymond Henry Foster, 90, of Trenton, formerly of Tatumville, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at NHC Nursing Home in Milan.
He was a former steel worker with the Inland Steel Company and a member of White Hall Baptist Church in Trenton.

Funeral services will be at Rehoboth Cemetery near RoEllen at 2 p.m. today. The Rev. Jerry Powell will officiate.

He is survived by a sister, Mary Ella Alford of Angola, Ind.

Winnie Orr Ewell

Winnie Orr Ewell, 89, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, July 20, 202 at her residence.
She was a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a former youth leader and a former member of The Couples Sunday School Class and The Dorcas Circle.

She was a member of the Honorary Board of directors of The Dyersburg-Dyer County Union Mission, a founding member of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Mission and a former member of the missions Board of Directors.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Philip Cook and the Rev. Fran Vickers officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.

The family will receive visitors at 6:30 p.m. today at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include a son, Jim Ewell of Halls; eight grandchildren, Diana Engel, Michael W. Ewell, Elizabeth Crockett, Douglas M. Ewell, Jennifer Umlauf, Sarah Littlefield, Kathryn Ewell and Benjamin O. Ewell; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Watkins Ewell Sr.; and a son, M. Watkins Ewell Jr.

Pallbearers will be Michael Ewell, Douglas Ewell, Benjamin Ewell, Joseph Crockett, Edmond Lewis and Thomas Littlefield.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to the Dyersburg-Dyer County Union Mission or the First United Methodist Church.
