QUERY: Susan Sawyer Roland, 125 El Camino Drive, Ojai, CA 93023, 805-646-4044, e-mail DrkRaven79@aol.com is looking for a Frank Cunnius. Susan has no birth or death dates. She thinks his father was Tarleton Cunnius, an original member of Peter's Colony. I have been told Frank was killed in an Indian raid, which probably would have taken place sometime after 1844. Tarleton settled first in Collin County and then moved to Wise County. But Susan would appreciate any information about the Cunnius family.
QUERY: Martha Caswell, 116 General Patch NE, Albuquerque, NM 87123, 505-323-8465 or 505-480-7683, Tremorsnewmexico@aol.com, is researching the Benjamin White family that settled in Weston, Collin County, Texas in 1838. He had seven children: John L.; Archibald; Coleman; James; and three daughters as yet not identified. Martha would like to correspond with any descendants or fellow researchers interested in this family. She is also looking for the final resting place of her 3rd great-grandmother Elizabeth Phalen/Phalan White. Martha would like to know how the White family was related to the Guest family. It seems the Guest family took in the White orphans and raised them. If you can help, please contact her at the above address.
FAMILY HISTORY EDITOR: Jimmy Parker was just appointed Senior Managing Editor of Everton s Family History Magazine, previously known as Everton s Genealogical Helper. He brings with him 38 years of experience. You may recognize his name in relation with the Family History Library and his many publications. In the press release, he says, I feel a deep obligation to share with others what I ve been blessed to learn in my lifetime. This position with a magazine that influences people around the world will help me do that. I would like it to appeal to beginners and provide information about new methodology and sources that have not been explored by more experienced genealogists.
GENERATIONS SOFTWARE: A&E Television Networks, has purchased the rights to Generations Family Tree software from Sierra Home. The June 25 press release says:
Genealogy.com is a subsidiary of A&E Television Networks (AETN). Headquartered in Fremont, CA, it designs, develops, and markets genealogy software applications and online resources that enable family history enthusiasts to research, organize, and document their heritage at home or away. Developing software since 1984, Genealogy.com continues to be the leader in the genealogy technology space, producing the #1 selling family tree software Family Tree Maker for more than a decade. The company also provides extensive online genealogy resources, including subscriptions that give researchers continuous, easy access to valuable family history information, such as the 1900 Census, International & Passenger Records, World Family Tree, and Genealogy Library. Other AETN Web sites include AandE.com, HistoryChannel.com and Biography.com.
The entire press release is available at www.genealogy.com/press-062502.html. Hopefully they will continue to market and approve the Generations software rather than compromise it for the continued sales of Family Tree software.
HERITAGE QUEST.COM: The Heritage Quest database is now appearing on Genealogy.com as part of their premium subscription. For those of us with Plano library cards, we certainly do not need it because we can get the entire database plus much more at home for free through the library s subscription to the TexShare Database. If you don t know about receiving the Heritage Quest History and Biography plus the United States censuses and census indexes, drop by the library and find out. I covered it in detail in my column of August 1.
