New genealogy courses are scheduled for the fall session at CCCC. One class is Basic Genealogy and has no prerequisite. The second class is Genealogy on the Internet and is offered through SAIL.
The description for Basic Genealogy says:
This basic course will acquaint you with the methodology for conducting successful family history research, including preliminary information gathering, introduction to research tools such as the public library, Family History Center and the Internet, organizing and evaluating research findings, and an introduction to using original and published records in research. Student goals are assimilated into the curriculum together with assigned homework to acquaint researchers with research methods. The course is designed for the beginner; those returning to genealogy; and for the researcher seeking professional credentials.
Topics include information gathering, research tools, and organizing and evaluating research findings.

Class 4 - Trip to Gladys Harrington Library

Class 8 Organization for the Genealogist
Required texts are Emily Ann Croom s Unpuzzling Your Past, 4th ed; and Elizabeth Shown Mills Evidence! Citation & Analysis for the Family Historian. Val Greenwood s Researching American History is optional.
The course number is 04A.CEPD720.001. The eight-week course begins on Thursday night, September 18 and runs from 6:30-9 p.m. The fee is $119. The course will be held at the Plano Senior High School, "B" Building, located at 2200 Independence Parkway. The instructor is Lynne Darrouzet whose credentials include those of attorney at law, certified genealogical record specialist, and professional genealogist. Those who attend the Genealogy Friends lectures at the Gladys Harrington Library may recall Ms. Darrouzet as an exception teacher and lecturer.

Brenda Kellow, dec'd, Certified Genealogist and Certified Genealogical Instructor, had a Bachelor s Degree in history and taught genealogy courses at the local Community College and computer genealogy at the University.
