Roger Heinen
Roger Heinen, 53, of Bandera, died
Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001 in a motor vehicle accident. He was born
Dec. 9, 1948 in Port Arthur to Charles Wayne and Fay Barnett Heinen. Roger was a musician and played with local bands.
Survivors include his mother, Fay Barnett McConnell of Lake Jackson; daughter, Heidi Heinen and companion, Jeffrey Eddins of Austin; two sisters, Sharon Gibson and husband Randell of Brazoria, and Rhonda Bratton and husband Billy of Bandera; and two brothers, Charles Heinen of Palmer, Ala., and Michael Heinen of West Columbia, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wayne Heinen and his step-mother, Margie Lee Heinen. A memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 12, 2001 at Grimes Chapel in Bandera. A private family interment
is to be held at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapel of Bandera.
George Whitehead
George Whitehead, 91, of Medina died
Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001 in a Kerrville hospital. He was born
Sept. 16, 1910 in Medina and was a lifetime resident. He was a retired rancher and a member of First Baptist Church in Medina. He was also a member and Past Master of Medina Lodge No. 1319, A.F. & A.M. Survivors include a daughter Janie and her husband Ken Whitewood of Kerrville; two sisters, Gertrude Krienke of San Antonio and Eva Grace Keese of Medina; two grandsons, Todd Whitewood and wife Serena of Bandera and Randy MacNaughton and wife Betty of Medina; and two great-grandchildren, Whitley Whitewood and Scott MacNaughton. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 31 at First Baptist Church in Medina with Dr. Allie Balko officiating. Interment
followed in Oakrest cemetery
in Medina. Pallbearers were Jerry Mayfield, Larry Kirk, Gary Stokes, Tom Carpenter, John Derry and Gerald Long. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of onešs choice.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.
Milton H. Culley
Milton H. Culley, 90, of Kerrville, Texas, died
Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, in Kerrville. Culley, a resident of Kerrville since 1993 and a prior resident of Bandera for over 20 years, was born
on July 21, 1911 in Austin, to Charles Allen Culley and Jennie Hutton Culley. Mr. Culley was a retired United States Navy Commander, serving during World War II. He also retired from the City of Austin as an electrical engineer. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville. Survivors include a daughter, Magi Starwoman of Kerrville; two sons, Milton H. Culley Jr. of Seguin and the Rev. Ernest Charles Culley of Canada; a sister, Dorothy Anderson of Dallas; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held Jan. 8 at the First Presbyterian Church in Kerrville, with Rev. Vicki Yates officiating. Interment
was held in Oakwood cemetery
in Austin.

Edna Welch Kalka
Edna Welch Kalka, 85, of Bandera, died
Thursday, Jan. 3, 2001 after a short illness. Edna was born
on Aug. 26, 1916 in Pipe Creek to the late Ed and Minnie Welch. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Bandera. She loved quilting and spent most of her days watching the Bandera community drive by her window. Survivors include two sisters, Lucille and Imogene; and one brother, Clayton Welch. Some special people in Ednašs life were her very dear friends and care givers, members of her church, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her soul mate, Joe Kalka. Funeral services were held at Grimes Funeral Chapel of Bandera on Jan. 8. Burial followed at the Bandera Cemetery. Memorials may be made in memory of Edna to the Peterson Hospice, 1121 Broadway, Kerrville, TX 78028.
Mary Jane Hooper Mueller
Mary Jane Hooper Mueller, 76, of Comfort, Texas died
Friday, Jan. 4 in the Hermann Sons Retirement Home in Comfort. Mrs. Mueller is survived by her husband, Richard C. Mueller of Comfort; one son, one daughter and their spouses: Norman and Wanda Borth of Jourdanton, Texas, and Linda and Mark Ushman of Deanville, Texas; one step-daughter, Karen Hartsfield and husband Mike of Kennedy, Texas; three step-sons, Carl Mueller and wife Jackie of Odem, Texas, Curtis Mueller and wife Mary of Tuleta, Texas, and Newton Borth of Yorktown, Texas; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Dugger of Cuero, Texas. Services were held Monday, Jan. 7 in the chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home in Comfort with the Rev. Robert Braun officiating. Interment
followed in the Hermann Sons Cemetery, Comfort. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society.
Katherine Jones
Katherine L. Bocker Jones, 85, died
Jan. 11, 2002 in Boerne, Texas. She was born
Aug. 16, 1916 in Waring, Texas. She is survived by a daughter, Meta K. and husband David Henry of Lamesa, Texas; a son, August E. and wife Carol Jones of San Antonio; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Linda Shaw of Bandera, Texas; and a brother, Marvin Beckor of Boerne, Texas. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 15 from graveside in the Boerne Cemetery. Arrangements were with Ebensberger Funeral Home.
Buster Bruce
Hubert Lillard 'Buster' Bruce died
on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002 at the age of 96 at River Hills Care Center. He was born
in Bandera County at the Bruce Dude Ranch on Oct. 17, 1905, the second of three children, born
to John Harvey Bruce and Mary Luella Mansfield Bruce. He married
Wilobel Preston on Dec. 27, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Carolyn Fruge; his sister, Minnie Bruce Hayes; and his beloved wife of 61 years, Wilobel 'Wimpy' Preston Bruce. Survivors include his son, John Harvey Bruce and Lucie Sides of Bandera; grandsons, Thomas Hubert Courville and wife, Dana, of Lake Charles, La. and Brian Scott Courville and wife Robin of Arlington, Texas; great grandchildren, Clint Joseph Courville and Julia Ann Courville of Lake Charles; sister, Allene Storey, San Marcos, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 18 at Grimes Funeral Chapel. Interment
was in Bandera Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold Bausch, Jay Hoskelis, Speedy Hutcheson, George Montague, Bobby Preston and Dr. Stephen Sells.
