GLENN RHINES
Glenn Rhines, 80, of Round Rock, died Sunday, Jan. 4, in a Round Rock Health Center. He was born May 14, 1923 in Ropesville, to Paul Wilson Rhines and Hattie A. Akin Rhines. On Sept. 7, 1946 he married
Alta Ferguson in San Antonio. He attended Golden Gate Seminary in California, attended Baylor University in Waco, pastored churches in Dutch Flat, California, and Tarpley, was in Mission Service Corps for 15 years for the Southern Baptist Convention, taught Bible class at Torres Unit Prison in Hondo, served in the US Navy from June 1942 to October 1945, member of the VFW, and retired from Civil Service having worked at Kelly Field in Mechanical Repair.
Survivors include his wife Alta of Round Rock, daughter, Cynthia Ann Johnston and husband Reed of Waynesboro, VA, sons, Michael Glenn Rhines and wife Denece of Lago Vista, and Archie E. Rhines and wife Cora of Arlington, sisters, Pauline Taylor, Carne Primm, and Betty Disler, brothers, Garland M. Rhines and Allen T. Rhines, grandchildren, Todd Michael Rhines and wife Shawna, Jason Paul Rhines and wife Jennifer, Sherry Hamons and husband Bryan, Julie Johnston, Jeff Rhines and wife April, Nicole Rogers and husband Brian, Laura Hines, and Melissa Perlinger and husband Stacy, and great grandchildren, Austin Rhines, Logan Rhines, Taylor Rhines, Caleb Rhines, Pearce Perlinger, Presley Perlinger, Michael Charske, Jacob Rogers, and Abigail Renee Hamons. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Services were Jan. 8, at Utopia Baptist Church, with Reverends Charles Easley and Mark Westerfield officiating. Interment followed in Waresville cemetery. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor announced that 636 students have been listed on the fall 2003 Vice President's Honor Roll. To receive this recognition a student must achieve a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) or better on a 4.0 scale.
RUBY GENIEVA RICHARDS
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Genieva Richards, 92, of Bandera, who passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, in Kerrville, will be today at 2 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera. Mrs. Richards was born in Bandera County on Dec. 23, 1911 to Howard William and Mary Etta (Simpson) Billings, well-known ranchers. She graduated from Bandera High School, and was an accomplished young lady. In Castroville, on Dec. 26, 1933, she married
William Bradley Richards, who preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1970. As a young married
couple, Brad roped and Ruby participated in women's flag racing at rodeos. She served as the postmaster at Tarpley for over 20 years, and after retiring, she moved to Bandera to make her home. For many years, she was active in community activities, including the Bandera County Junior Livestock Show, the Hunters Barbecue, Extension Homemakers Club, and Bandera I.S.D. projects. She was a member of the Hill Country Squares, the Bandera County Farm Bureau, the National Hampshire Sheep Assn., and the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Assn. Mrs. Richards enjoyed hunting and fishing; loved gardening and flowers; and was an admirable homemaker who was devoted to her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Tootsy Short of Bandera; grandchildren: Cindy Edwards and husband, Randy, of Quemado, and Joe Brad Short and wife, Leah, of Hondo; great grandchildren: Bradley Jack Edwards, Bradley Hunter Tait Short, Joseph Clay Short, Connor Eaves Short, Ian Lane Short, and Chris Barnett. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Felix Billings of Tarpley. Mr. Martin Smith will officiate at the service. Interment will follow in Bandera cemetery with Howard A. Billings, Clay Billings, Ty Billings, Randy Edwards, Joe Brad Short, and Jack Preston, Jr. serving as pallbearers. Named as honorary pallbearers are Jim Thomson, Fred Knaggs, and Diana Braun. Memorials may be made to Vista Care Hospice, St. Jude's, the American Heart Assn., or the charity of one's choice.

MRS. OTHEL RYAN
Mrs. Othel Ryan, 90, a Bandera resident since 1942, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, in Boerne. On May 17, 1913, in Pineland, she was born to James Henry and Helen Harriett (Davies) Berryman. In Gonzales on July 7, 1932, she married
John Edward "Eddie" Ryan, Sr., who preceded her in death on May 27, 1976. Mr. and Mrs. Ryan owned and operated the Red & White Grocery Store on Cedar St. in Bandera for 33 years before they retired in 1975. They were active members of the Bandera United Methodist Church and were loyal supporters of the community. Mrs. Ryan was also a member of the Madrona Garden Club. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be greatly missed for the love she shared with her family and others.
Survivors include her son, Eddie Jon Ryan and wife, Mary Kathryn, of Pipe Creek; grandson, Trey Ryan of San Diego, CA; grand daughter, Kathryn Ann Ryan of San Antonio; sister, Mrs. Bea Blair and husband, Eddie, of Monahans; brother, Arnold Berryman of San Angelo; and many friends. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ryan was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Lois Reeves and Jerry Burgell.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera with Rev. Everett Boyce officiating. Interment followed in Bandera cemetery with Alvin Stewart, Chad Stewart, Vastine Steubing, Rusty Steubing, Larry Steubing, and Scott Steubing as pallbearers. M.H. "COWBOY" BRYMER
M.H. "Cowboy" Brymer, age 69, of Bandera, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, in a San Antonio hospital. He was born on Dec. 21, 1934 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On Sept. 22, 1967, he married
Edwina "Tuff" Boyle in Liberty, Texas. He worked as a Boiler Maker for a number of years and raised cattle in Bandera County before retiring.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Tharp of Houston; three sons, Mike Burnes of Bandera, Hank Burnes of Douglasville, Georgia, and Pat Burnes of Baytown; three sisters, Jewell Robin of Port Neches, Texas, Johnnie Ruth Trnka and husband Edwin of Caldwell and Lillian Moore and husband Floyd of Caldwell, one brother, David Lee Brymer of Caldwell, and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife "Tuffy" Boyle Brymer on Oct. 17, 1997, son, Paul Bill Burnes, and daughter-in-law, Christy Bumes who was very close to Cowboy, and two brothers, Bensan and Lynn Brymer. Services were Saturday, Jan. 3 at 10 a.m at Grimes Chapel, with Mr. Martin Smith officiating. Interment followed in the Bandera cemetery. Pallbearers were Dale Moore, Lawrence Smith, Doug Tharp, Will Burnes, Pat Herrera, Bubba Cherry, and Warren Tassin. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Saleh Jaafar, Dr. Muhammed Patel, Dominick Munafo, Warren Tassin, Johnny "Red" Walker and Patty Miller.

PETER K. SHAVER
Peter K. Shaver, age 53 of Bandera, died Sunday, Jan. 17at his residence. He was born July 7, 1950 in San Diego, CA to Robert Griffith Shaver and Patricia Kane Shaver. On Jan. 27, 1977, he married
Teresa Maynes in Balboa Canal Zone, Panama.
He was a retired Master Machinist and he was a local antique gun dealer.
In addition to his wife, Teresa of Bandera, survivors include his parents, Robert and Patricia Shaver of Falls Church, Virginia; daughter, Katie Shaver of Bandera; sons, Kane Shaver and Pete Shaver of Bandera; sister, Nancy Shaver of Denver, CO; and brother, Robbie Shaver of Watertown, MA.
A rosary was held Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera. Funeral mass was Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with Father Wojciech Reisch officiating. Interment was in the Bandera cemetery.
Pallbearers were be George Maynes, Michael Maynes, Robert Shaver, Sean Murphy, Alex Murphy and Sean Bennett.

CHRISTOPHER SEAN FRENCH
Christopher Sean French was born Jan. 26, 1968 in Copperas Cove. He died Jan. 8, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in Houston after a prolonged illness. He grew up in Copperas Cove and graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1986. By then, Sean had found the game of golf and attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood on a golf scholarship his freshman year. Later he transferred to Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches where he graduated in 1992 with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing.
Armed with his new college degree, Sean joined the community newspaper team of Dixie Newspapers at the request of owner Jim Chionsini. He held various posts at newspapers in Boerne, Marlin and Taylor before earning his first publisher's position at the Bandera Bulletin. These posts were all with Dixie Newspapers which by then had become known as Granite Publications. Later, Sean assumed the publisher's job at The Highlander in Marble Falls where he was also group manager for the Burnet Bulletin and Kingsland Current up to and after the papers were sold to American Consolidated Media. Sean made the decision to go into business for himself in early 2001.
Later that same year, he entered into a business partnership with Mark Henry which remained strong until his death. He and Henry purchased the Zapata County News in March of 2002 and The Lake Cities Sun in Lake Dallas in November of the same year.
Wherever Sean lived and worked, he was involved in a number of organizations that included chambers of commerce, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Rotary International and the Texas Press Association. A believer in local community involvement, Sean often worked in and coordinated special projects and events benefiting local causes. Every newspaper he ever operated was also highly involved in the efforts to help improve the community it served.
Sean is survived by his parents, Forrest James French and Janie Wehmann French of Copperas Cove, one brother, Forrest James French, Jr. of Houston, four sisters, Janie French Sellers of Boerne, Sharon French Tabor of Copperas Cove, Lorraine French Thomas of Corinth and Elizabeth French Hays of Copperas Cove, six nieces, three nephews and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Crawford Bower Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. They included a wake from 6-8 pm Tuesday, Jan. 13at the funeral home. CYNTHIA LOMA (REED) WEED
Cynthia Loma (Reed) Weed, age 83 of Medina, died Jan. 27, in a San Antonio hospital. She was born Dec. 2, 1920 in Bandera County to John Henry Reed and Hattie Lackey Reed. On Feb. 5, 1947, she married
Amos F. Weed in Kerrville. He preceded her death on March 6, 1982.
Loma was a member of Medina First Baptist Church and a member of the V.A. Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughter, Clara McCracken of Medina and brother, Pete Reed of Bandera.
A memorial service was Jan. 31 at Grimes Chapel, with Mr. Martin Smith officiating.

JAY EDWARDS
Mr. Jay Edwards, age 62 of Pipe Creek, died Thursday, Jan. 27 in San Antonio. He was born Sept. 6, 1941 in San Antonio, to Jesse Berthal Edwards, III and Helen Callahan Edwards.
Jay taught school at Nordheim and Judson Schools, then decided to go into the family construction business. He was very interested in history, was the co-author of the Bandera County History Book, a very active member of Boerne Baptist Church, and was a member of a missions group that built many homes in Mexico. He as also a very gifted artist.
Survivors include his parents, J.B. and Helen Edwards of Pipe Creek; two sons, Davis Edwards and wife, Jennifer of Kyle, TX and Jess Edwards and wife, Niki of Pipe Creek; two sisters, Jane Turner of Pipe Creek and Jeanene Mansfield and husband, Keith of Pipe Creek; granddaughter, Jordan Edwards and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Friday, Jan. 30 at Grimes Chapel in Bandera, with Rev. Mike Meadows officiating. Interment followed in Pipe Creek cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Mansfield, Brent Mansfield, Bo Mansfield, Bill Bowie, Coke Turner and Kenny Carter.
Donations may be made to the Hill Country Animal League, 115 W. Bandera Rd., Boerne, TX 78006.

JOHN MICKLE GOODENOUGH
John Mickle Goodenough, 85, of Bandera, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 13, in a Kerrville hospital. He was born in Bandera County on May 10, 1918, the third child of Horace Wesley Goodenough and Anna Jones Mickle Goodenough. John attended Myrtle Creek School and Bandera Schools where he graduated from high school in 1935. During 1937 he lived in San Antonio with his aunt and uncle, Lillie and Otto Kinsley, while he attended San Antonio Junior College (now SAC). On Nov. 6, 1942, John was inducted into the Army. During WWII, he served overseas thirty months, at Casa Blanca and Oran in Africa, and in Italy, from Naples to Austria. He spent 442 days in combat in battle zones at Naples/Foggia, Rome/Amo, Northem Apennines, and Ryukys. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Croix de Guerra Avec Etoile de Vermil, and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in action in 1944, while serving as a machine gunner with the 757th, Tank Battalion. At the time of his discharge from Ft. Bliss, IX, on Oct. 22, 1945, he was in the 404th Engineer Battalion, Tec-5. He returned to Bandera County and worked in the freighting business for Harold Hayes, and in 1946 became a partner in Hayes Feed Store. Following the sale of Hayes Feed Store in 1976, John was employed by the late Irving Billings in the propane gas department of Free State Oil Company in Bandera. After Billings Propane Gas Company was sold in April 1981 to Hand Butane Gas Company, he worked for them unffl he retired in May 1983. On March 24, 1954, John marned Josephine "Judy" Naden Maass in Bandera. John was a lifelong member of Bandera United Methodist Church where he had served as Sunday School superintendent, and as a member of the Board of Stewards and the Commission on Evangelism. He was active in Boy Scout work for many years, serving as Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pak 146 in 1965-67, and as Scoutmaster for Bandera Scout Troop 146 from 1967 to 1976, after which he served as Committee Chairman and Building Committee Chairman. He also served as president of the Board of Directors of the Bandera cemetery Association for several years. Survivors mclude his wife, Judy Goodenough of Bandera, sons, James David "Jimmy" Goodenough of Bandera, and Joseph William "Joe" Goodenough and wife, Roberta "Robbie", of Lake Jackson; their daughter, Susie, and grandson, Tristan, of Kingwood; step-daughter, Marsha Mann of Dallas; sisters, Ruth Goodenough of El Paso, Doris Baumann and husband, Leonard, of San Antonio, Edith Burnes of Marquez, and Kathryn Yackee and husband, Dr. Robert Yackee, of Washington, D.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joseph Wesley, Charles, Eugene, and Horace Goodenough.
Services were on Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Bandera United Methodist Church with Rev. Everette Boyce officiating. Interment followed in Bandera cemetery with Dan Goodenough, Andrew Goodenough, Bill Goodenough, Mike Burnes, Kenneth Weber, and Willy Burnes serving as pallbearers. JOHN JAMES DE LAURIER, SR.
Mr. John James De Laurier, Sr., age 88, a resident of Kerrville for seven years, passed away
March 16 at an area hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1915 in Gladwin, Michigan to Duncan and Mae (Aten) De Laurier. On Nov. 23, 1952, he married
Janet Davies in Mizon, Illinois.
John served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a truck driver and a member of the Bandera Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Janet De Laurier of Medina; daughter, Denice Jenschke of Bandera; sons, John James De Laurier, Jr., of Danville, IL, Robert Dewaine De Laurier of Bowling Green, KY, James De Laurier of Ontario, Canada and Jon De Laurier of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Cody Kelly and Anne Jenschke; and numerous out of state grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
No services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
