Eldred “ Ellie” Foster
1947-2010
Celebration of Life services for Mr. Eldred Lamar “Ellie” Foster, 63 of Marble Falls will take place at 11 am, Saturday Nov. 6, at the Fellowship Baptist Church, 2702 Mormon Mills Road, in Marble Falls.
Ellie passed away Wednesday Oct. 27, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 20, 1947 in Bryan, to Eldred Leroy and Cora Lillian Hill Foster. His father preceded him in death.
Ellie graduated from Marble Falls High School. In 1971, he graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in education. Ellie became a teacher and coach in the Bandera, Marble Falls and Lampasas Independent School Districts.
Well loved by his students, grandchildren and friends, “Coach Foster” was friendly, outgoing and really cared about his students’ welfare. He had a gift for inspiring, coaching, and relating to people. He loved playing with his grandchildren, spending time with friends, fishing, hunting, football, horseracing, washer pitching and bowling.
Ellie was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
He is survived by his mother Lillian Foster of Marble Falls; children, Kristin Sagebiel and her husband, Jay, of Fredericksburg; Chad Foster of Marble Falls; Nicki Hernandez and her husband, Dominic, of Burnet; and Casie Wills and her husband, Denton Jr., of Burnet, grandchildren, Joshua Foster and Lilli, Jaylee, Kolton and Charity Sagebiel; brother Bill Foster and his wife, Carmen, of Marble Falls, and sister Joan Yost and her husband, Denny, of San Diego, California.
If desired, memorials may be made in Ellie’s name to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Edgar Funeral Home of Marble Falls.
Karen Lynn Bennett
1956-2010
Karen Lynn Bennett, 53, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at her residence in Bandera.
She was born in San Antonio to Ralph and Marian Lucille Southern Pence on Dec. 4, 1956. Her parents preceded her in death.
An active member of the First Baptist Church of Bandera, Linda was a beloved “Memaw” and mother, as well as a cherished sister and friend.
She is survived by daughter Jennifer Clauser and her husband, James, of San Antonio; sisters, Nance Fyffe of Ohio; Vickie Parker of Beckville; and Connie Taylor and her husband, Larry, of Bandera; brothers, Lee Pence and his wife, Sharon, of Richmond, Texas; Lonnie Pence and his wife, Gailene, of Marion; and Lloyd Pence of Rockport; and grandchild Addison Clauser, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial services were held Friday, Sept. 17, at the First Baptist Church of Bandera.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of choice are requested.
Mary Alice Correa
1923-2010
Mary Alice Correa, 87, was called to her eternal home by our Savior on Sept. 17. She was born in San Antonio on Feb. 18, 1923 to Roman H. and Estella Neri.
Mary Alice took pleasure in helping others and she surrounded herself with people who shared her passion. She retired from Southwestern Bell with more than 34 years of service and served as a member of the Bandera Arts Club. She provided admirable service as president of the Ladies
Auxiliary Unit #1836 of the local Purple Heart Chapter. She was a dedicated and valued member of the Women's Auxiliary of Medina Lake Volunteer Fire Department, and loved getting together with her cherished friends from the Lakehills Crafty Ladies Group.
Mary Alice was loved by many friends and neighbors. She will be remembered for her comitment to God and her family, and for her captivating smile.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her son, Roman B. Darnell, and brother-in-law and sister, Louie and Gloria Martinez. She is survived by her husband, Joseph R. Correa; son, Charles E. Darnell; sister, Stella Mae Wilkinson; brother-in-law and sister, Sam and Pinky Neri Sanchez; daughter-in-law, Cecelia Darnell; and cousin, Mitzi Neri; grandchildren, Holly Pirruccello and husband, Jason; Jimed Darnell and wife, Kristi; great-grandchildren, Sophia Pirruccello and Hunter S. Darnell; and numberous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary was recited by Deacon Pedro Gutierrez Monday, Sept. 20, at Cordi-Marian Chapel, 11624 Culebra, San Antonio. The Funeral Mass followed with interment at Resurrection cemetery at Cordi-Marian.
Pallbearers were Louis A. (Luigi) Martinez, Jimed Darnell, Philip Neri Sanchez, Sam Sanchez III, Ralph Sanchez, and Greg Martinez. Honorary pallbearers were Jason D. Pirruccello, Michael Sanchez, Victor Madrigal Jr. and Ray C. Quinn.
Betty Templeton Ashley
1933-2010
Betty Templeton Ashley, 77, of Pipe Creek, passed away Thursday, Sept. 9, in her home.
She was born May 12, 1933, in Kilmarnock, Scotland, where she lived until moving to the United States in 1961.
A loving mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, Betty always thought of her family before herself. Extremely talented, she excelled in crocheting, knitting, sewing and decorating. She was also quick-witted with a great sense of humor.
Survivors include sisters Janet Wood and May Wilson, and brother Harry Nelson, all of Scotland; daughter Leslie Skelly and her husband, Bryan; son James Ashley Jr. and his wife, Gina, all of Pipe Creek; and grandchildren, Jennifer, Courtney and Sarah Skelly and Angela Flores.
Preceding her in death were her father and mother, James and Margaret Nelson.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 18, at Pipe Creek Community Church with Richard Cobler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VITAS Hospice.
Lila Jacquelyn “Jacky” Nicholson Buck
1925-2010
Lila Jacquelyn “Jacky” Nicholson Buck, 85, passed away on Friday, Sept. 24, in Katy.
She was born on Nov. 23, 1925, in Mexia to Frank and Ella Jo Nicholson.
After attending college in Kingsville, Jacky moved to Houston where she worked for many years as a geological draftsman for Exxon and other companies. She moved to Bandera in the 1980s to be closer to her sister, Mary, and brother-in-law Roy.
While living in Bandera, Jacky volunteered at Helping Hand, EMS and the Silver Sage Corral Senior Activity Center where she served on the organization’s board of directors. When she moved from Bandera to Katy in 2007, Jacky was honored for her years of volunteerism by being designated “Queen of Bandera.”
Jacky also loved to dance and was an accomplished painter. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Jacky is survived by her son, Clayton Buck, and his wife, Sue, and the couple’s children, John and Erin; and by her daughter Amanda Walker.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Nicholson Carpenter, and her brother, Frank Nicholson.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, Sept. 30, at the Glenwood cemetery in Beeville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Diabetes Association or Gideon’s International.
Russell Wayne Holby
1955-2010
Russell Wayne Holby, 54, of Bandera, passed away on Monday, Sept. 13, in Bandera.
He was born in Houston, to Richard and Marilyn Holby on October 18, 1955.
Russell married
Brenda Stratton on Dec. 10, 1983, in Pipe Creek.
He worked as an estimator at a commercial roofing company. He was also a member of the American Cherokee Association of Texas.
Russell is survived by his wife Brenda Stratton Holby of Bandera; sons, Derrek Russell Holby and Brandon Harrison Holby, both of San Antonio, Texas; and brother Troy Holby and his wife, Mary Ann, of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard Holby; mother, Marilyn Holby; and father Ronnie Brown.
Rosary was held on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, followed by a memorial service. Officiants were Father Stan Oleksy, Father Michael Mc Manus and Deacon Bobby Stein.
Arrangements are by Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.
