She married
the love of her life, William Stone Thompson, in December, 1941. After retiring, the couple moved to the Bandera area, establishing a small cattle ranch, Serendip, along the Medina River. They later moved to Bandera and eventually Kerrville.
Kathryn was a successful businesswoman; good daughter, mother and grandmother; teacher; and friend. She was active in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Republican Party and voter registration. She also volunteered many hours at the Bandera County Library.
Kathryn's keen interest in genealogy helped her identify ancestors in both sides of her family. An avid reader, she traveled extensively and enjoyed many Elder Hostel programs.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn T. Cathey, and her husband, Bill, of Kerrville, and Frances T. Shure of Denver, Colorado; and grandchildren Mary Ann Cathey O'Neill and Roger Caminiti of Las Vegas Nevada, and Joel A. Shure and Chris, also of Denver, as well as by two great-grandchildren.
Kathryn was predeceased by her husband.
One of Kathryn's favorite quotes is from Charlotte's Web: "How very special are we, for just a moment, to be a part of life's eternal rhyme." She would want family and friends to raise a cheerful toast to her and not be sad, but rather try to make their lives as interesting - in responsible ways - as they can. Kathryn offers her love and thanks to all those who were part of her life.
A private family burial will be held at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery in Houston.
The family thanks River Point of Kerrville, Dr. Don Murrmann, and Gentiva Hospice for their good and loving care of Kathryn. The family suggests that memorials be made in her name to the Bandera County Library.
