Grady Akin
Grady Akin, Sr., 74, of Lakehills, died
Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, in a San Antonio hospital. He was born
July 10, 1928, in Lynn County to William Marshal Akin and Mary Hassie England Akin. Mr. Akin had been a Lakehills resident for 31 years, formerly residing in Brownfield. He was a John Deer farm implement mechanic and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include daughter, Patricia O. Warhurst of Kerrville; two sons, Grady A. Akin, Jr., and Randy G. Akin, both of Lakehills; sister, Mozell Cloe of Texarkana; and two brothers, Leroy Akin of Lakehills and Arnell Akin of Ardmore, Okla. Graveside services were held Monday, Nov. 25, at Pipe Creek cemetery
with Rev. Ellen Ely officiating. Memorial remembrances may be made to the Lakehills United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.
Martin David Popham
Martin David (Bud) Popham, died
Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at a San Antonio hospital. He was born
on Sept. 12, 1935, in San Antonio to Charlie and Lillian Shedrock Popham. Mr. Popham worked in the family business Popham & Sons as a carpet layer for many years. Mr. Popham is survived by his brothers and sisters, James Popham and wife Mary of Lakehills, C.J. Popham and wife Dorothy of Lavern, LaVern Duncan and husband I.M. of Mico and Ellen Taylor and husband Jerry of Castroville; also, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He will be missed and loved by many family and friends. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the Pipe Creek cemetery
with Rev. Ray Popham officiating. All funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wright's Funeral Parlor of Bandera.
Ed Kelley
Ed Kelley died
Monday, Nov. 25, 2002.
He had been a landowner in Bandera County since 1974 and a resident since 1990 after his retirement from the international oil business. He is survived by his wife Janet Kelley; a son Scott Kelley of San Antonio; a daughter Claudia O'Neal of Needville; and three grandchildren. A memorial will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m. at Arkey Blue's Silver Dollar. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to the Brighter Days Horse Refuge, Pipe Creek on Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Boerne.
Gloria Wehmeyer
Gloria Wehmeyer, 77, of Bandera died
on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 in Bandera County. She was born
March 24, 1923 in San Antonio to William and Lillian H. Zimmerman Inbau. She married
Bill Wehmeyer in Eagle Pass on Jan. 3, 1972. Mrs. Wehmeyer was a clerical supervisor for an insurance company, a member of the Daughters of the Nile, the American Legion Auxiliary Post #410 in Lakehills and a member of Hermann Sons, Lodge #81 Survivors include her husband Bill of Bandera, son John McCoy and wife Sandi of Lakehills and grandchildren Julie Williams, Shelli O'Connor, Shane McCoy, Kylynn McCoy, John T. McCoy, Shawn McCoy and Katie Ann McCoy. Services were held on Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ellen Ely officiating. Graveside services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bennie C. Wehmeyer, Freddie L. Wehmeyer, Marvin Gene Wehmeyer, James Baer, Charlie Mark Baer and Bryan Peirson. Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans organization. Arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapel of Bandera.
Delcie Lee Smith
Delcie Lee Smith of Tarpley, passed from this life on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in San Antonio, after a long illness. She reached the age of 73 years, five months and six days. Smith was born
to Joseph Edward and Laura Cleo (Lowrey) Tillotson on June 24, 1929, in Utopia. On June 25, 1952, she married
Floyd Lee Smith at the Baptist Parsonage in Sabinal. She was a homemaker who loved to cook. She also loved watching the wildlife and tamed many squirrels to eat from her hands. Their marriage was also blessed with three sons. Floyd and Delcie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 25. Smith is survived by her husband, Floyd, along with her three sons and daughter-in-laws which include James Lee and Carol Smith of Hondo; Elmer Allen and Kathy Smith of San Jacinto, Calif.; and Ivey William and Dianna Smith of Tarpley; four granddaughters, Cheryl Fudge and Jaime Smith of Hondo and Maggie and Heather Smith of San Jacinto, Calif; sister, Dona Oates of Mathis; sister-in-law Norine Tillotson of Uvalde; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Smith is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leonard Tillotson and Allen Tillotson, both of Uvalde; two sisters, Onetta Lindsey of Pipe Creek and Lillie Mae Turner of Sabinal; and one infant grandson, Timothy Wayne Smith of Hondo. Her life was celebrated with a funeral service on Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Puente and Sons Funeral Chapel in Hondo. She was laid to rest at the Tarpley cemetery
located in Tarpley following the funeral service. George Randall of the Church of Christ of Hondo officiated at both services. Pallbearers for both services included Calvin DeHart, Sonny Schmidt, Andrew Davis, Doc Sheedy, Bobby Ward and Bob Padgett along with honorary pallbearers Joe Arnold, Elroy Lindeburg, Howdy Billings, Jack Lindsey and Lyndon Cook. Those wishing to give memorials may do so by sending them to the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of your choice.
Reid R. "Bob" Flood Sr.
Reid R. "Bob" Flood Sr., who was born
March 23, 1930, in Galveston, died
Dec. 6, 2002, in Rowlett. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Shaine McClellan; brother, Bill Flood Sr.; and parents, George and Mary Flood. Mr. Flood, a 1948 graduate of Bandera High School, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, was a retired chief engineer for Ryder-Aviall, Inc., was an executive aircraft pilot and co-owned Flood Brothers Aircraft Service in San Antonio. He is survived by wife, Audrey Tipton Flood; daughters, Marrion Flood Unruh, Charlotte Greco and Marsha Flood; son, Reid R. Flood Jr.; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services were held on Dec. 10, in Dallas. Interment
followed in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
