Fred W. Oehlke
Mr. Fred W. Oehlke, 71, of Pipe Creek, died
Monday, Dec. 9, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Margaret Oehlke and daughter, Doris Lundstrom. Mr. Oehlke was a 50 year Union Bricklayer and a Stonemason.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Pipe Creek; sisters, Marge Oehlke, Millie Scheel and husband Don and Kathy Johnson and husband Larry; sons, David Oehlke and J.D. Cameron; daughters, Marilyn Edgett, Linda Landaverde and husband Elder and Margaret Oehlke; step-children, Linda Russi, Karen Jolly, Dwight Sorrell and Fred Sorrell; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, Dec. 14, at Grimes Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Martin Smith and Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Interment
followed in Pipe Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Pipe Creek EMS, Pipe Creek, TX 78063.

Christy Burnes
A beautiful light flew heavenward Dec. 18, 2002, as Mrs. Christy Burnes left this world.
She was surrounded at her death, as she was in life, by her loving family and friends.
Merrie Christine French was born
in Baytown in 1961, the eighth of nine children born
to James and Grace French. She grew up in Baytown, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1980 and married
Mike Burnes, also of Baytown, in 1981. She was employed with Shell Oil from 1989 to 2000. The Burnes family relocated to Bandera in 1997, where Mrs. Burnes was living at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her father James French and her mother-in-law Tuffy Boyle Brymer of Bandera. Survivors include husband Mike Burnes and two children, Will and Josie of Bandera. She is also survived by her mother, Grace French; brothers Gene French and wife Paula, Steve French and wife Terry and David French and sisters Laurie Kader and husband Rodney; Cheryl French and Sherry French, all of Baytown. She is also survived by a brother Danny French and wife Cindy of Houston and a brother Rich French and wife Mary of Georgetown. Other survivors are sister-in-law Jackie Tharp of Houston; brothers-in-law Hank Burnes of Douglasville, Ga. and Pat Burnes of Baytown. All of her brothers and brother-in-law Rodney Kader served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were M.H. "Cowboy" Brymer, Gene Fee, Mack Forbes and Warren Wheeler all of Bandera, Jimmy Gleason of Crosby and Dr. Dom Munafo of San Diego, Calif. Mrs. Burnes was a sweet and gentle spirit and will be missed by all those who knew her.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Cancer Therapy & Research Center in San Antonio.
Services were held on Sunday, Dec. 22, at Grimes Chapel with Father Stanley Oleksy officiating. A rosary was recited on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. at Grimes Chapel.
Interment will follow in Bandera Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera.
Bertha Teague
Bertha Minnie Teague, 94, of Kerrville, died
Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in a local care center. She was born
Jan. 3, 1908, in the Honey Creek Community above Medina, in Bandera County to Johnnie William Dale and Lola Cordelia Austin Dale. On June 30, 1935, she married
Thomas Dean Teague in Bandera. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1965. Mrs. Teague was a homemaker and also worked as a mental health worker for 16-1/2 years. She retired in 1970 from the Kerrville State Hospital. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews including those she adopted for her own, Lola Chipman of Kerrville, Bertha Barth of San Antonio, Carl Bonnet of Mountain Home, Ark., Ruth Ross of Fredericksburg, Dale Bonnet of Alpine, Rodger Bonnet of Medina and Phyllis Doss of San Antonio. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Parelee Bonnet and Ruth Dalton; and two brothers, Johnnie W. Dale and Jessie J. Dale. Services were held Thursday, Jan. 2, at Grimes Chapel with Mr. Rodger Bonnet officiating. Interment
followed in Oak Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Bonnet, Terry Koehne, Mike Doss, Christopher Meyer, Charles Chipman and Dustin Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Al Ross, Bob Doss and Monte Chipman. Arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapel of Bandera.
Emmett "Mac" McKenzie
Emmett "Mac" McKenzie, 89, of Bandera, died
Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at his residence.
He was born
Aug. 20, 1913, in Hamilton County. Mac was a Jehovah's Witness, retired from the Union Iron Co., worked on the Alaska Pipe Line and also on Hoover Dam. Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Page of Tennessee, Tamara McKenzie of Oregon; two sons, Emmett O'Kane McKenzie, Jr., of Nevada and Bud McKenzie of Corpus Christi; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Tuesday, at Kingdom Hall, with Mr. David Thurmond officiating. Interment
was in the Bandera Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapel of Bandera.
Isabel B. Rios
Isabel B. Rios, 79, died
Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at her residence. She was born
Nov. 19, 1923, in Campbellton to Ignacio and Hacienta Aldana Bermudes. She married
Jose Rios in 1943 in San Antonio.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband Jose of Bandera; nine daughters, Gloria Oranday and husband Pete of Bandera, Irene Garza and husband Juan of LaVernia, Hope Young and husband Joe of Bandera, Lucky Lackey and husband Johnny of Center Point, Beatrice Callaway and husband Alan of Bandera, Diane Mendoza and husband Carlos of Lakehills, Rose Rios of Pleasanton, Mary Diaz and husband Eloy of San Antonio and Linda Leday and husband Clifton of Kerrville; four sons, Frank Rios and wife Lupe of San Antonio, Ignacio Rios of San Antonio, Joe Rios and wife Beatrice of San Antonio, Andy Rios and wife Susie of Helotes; one sister, Nicholas Vasquez of San Antonio; 41 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Bermudes; two granddaughters; and one grandson. A Rosary was recited on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Grimes Chapel, with Father Gerald Hammel officiant. Interment
followed in the Bandera Cemetery.
Pallbearers were George Oranday, Mike Rios, Johnny Garza, Abe Garza, Jr., T.J. Rodriguez, Jr., and Carlos Mendoza, Jr. Arrangements were under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapel of Bandera.
Steven Patrick Durand
Steven Patrick Durand, of Lakehills, died
Jan. 8, 2003. He was born
in Santa Anna, Calif., on Feb. 28, 1955, to Donald and Lucy Durand. He married
Karlene in Las Vegas, Nev., on Oct. 10, 1987. His military accomplishments were flight training command and acquisition logistics with flight simulators.
He retired as a Master Sgt. After 21 years of service in the U.S. Air Force.
His favorite activities were fishing, hunting, golfing, camping and collecting stamps and coins.
He is survived by his loving wife Karlene Durand; father Donald Durand and wife Betty; seven sons, Greg Durand and wife Andrea, Rick, Scott, Rob, Dirk, Eric and Matt Barlow; two daughters, Rachel Gelsar and Heidi Henson; one grandfather, Edson Scholz; one brother, Paul Durand; six sisters, Deborah Forres, Valerie Spampata, Sheryl Cook, Laura Hanson, Annette Durand and Sarah Durand. Also surviving are, 36 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by mother, Lucy and son Anthony Durand.
Viewing was held Jan. 11, service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with Bishop Heller officiating. Interment
will be out of state.
