MARY LOUISE GRAPSKI
Mary Louise Grapski, age 69, of Georgetown, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003. Louise was the only daughter of C. H. and Irene Langford and sister of Wendell Langford. She came into this world on Jan. 22, 1934 in Houston.
Louise spent her childhood years in Baytown and loved her summertime stays at her grandparents home in Bandera, She continued to visit Bandera and her family members every summer as they gathered for family reunions.
She attended college at Southwestern University in Georgetown in 1951, where she met her husband, Albert Grapski, on a blind date. They were married
Sept. 5, 1953 and just missed celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year, as he passed away June 24, 2003.
Louise came to Georgetown in 1970 when her husband retired from the U. S. Air Force to make a home near her aging parents who then lived in Florence. They lived in Arkansas, New Mexico, South Carolina and The Netherlands between 1953 and 1970. After enrolling her two daughters in school at Zion Lutheran in Walburg, she quickly became involved in school activities and helping organize fund raisers. She was also an active parent in the Williamson County 4-H program, helping not only her children, but others as well, with projects, presentations, and competitions. Louise loved children and wouldn't hesitate to pack up her two and several of their friends for a trip to New Braunfels and a day tubing at Camp Warnecke or some other "kid-friendly" destination. She was not one to sit on the side and watch, however, she was always right there enjoying with the children.
After completing her education at Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas in the early 70's, she indulged her love of books and reading by taking a part time job at the library on the Southwestern University campus. There she met many life long friends and touched many students' lives. It was not uncommon to find her digging through archived documents to help a student complete a research project at the 11th hour. She loved to help people and though she may have scolded them for waiting until the last minute, she never said no.
She loved to travel and would often volunteer to chaperone school trips in which one or both of her daughters were involved. Louise believed that seeing the world was important and educational, and she made the most ofevery opportunity to allow her children those luxuries. She continued this tradition with her granddqaughter, Macie, who was the agreatest joy in her life. She and macie traveled together to several stat3s including Washington, D. C. and to Canada. They were planning a trip to the Bahamas in the summer of 2004.
Louise is preceded in death by her father, C. H. Langford in 1997; her btother, Wendell Langford in 1987; her mother, Irene Langford in April 2003; and her husband, Albert Grapski in June 2003.
