James “JT” Taylor Brown Jr.
1920-2010
Jim Brown, 90, and a resident of Denton, passed away Monday, March 8.
He was born February 29, 1920, in Joplin, Missouri, to Vena Opal Barnard and James Taylor Brown Sr.
Jim is survived by his wife, Delores Brown; brother Vern Brown and his wife, Jackie, and the couple’s three sons, all of Carthage, Missouri; daughter Anne Brown Jones of Bandera; son, Grant “Gabby” Brown and his wife, Nancy, of Austin; granddaughter, Patricia Garcia and her husband, Steven; great-grandchildren, Brooke Culp, Tiffany Culp and Faith Garcia, all of Austin; granddaughter Christina Klingelhefer and her husband, Corey; and great-grandchildren, Kelsi and Caden Klingelhefer of Spring Branch.
He was preceded in death by both parents, wife Jenny Milton Brown and grandson Corey Taylor Brown.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 27, at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Denton.
Richard Darrell Mayfield
1951-2010
Richard Darrell Mayfield, 58, a longtime resident of Medina, passed away on Monday, March 15, after an extended and brave battle with cancer.
He was born on April 10, 1951, in Helletsville, to Robert Darrell Mayfield and Ruby “Tootie” Walker Mayfield.
A loyal and dedicated employee, Richard was employed at Bandera Electric Cooperative for 32 years. After graduating from college with a degree in data processing, Richard went to work for BEC. He quickly became a key person involved in the daily operations of the company’s computer systems.
He dedicated his entire adult life to his grandchildren, sons and family. Another of Richard’s passions was riding his Harley with his brothers, sons and friends. He also enjoyed performing with his band, “Vibrating Demension.”
Richard will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his parents, Robert Darrell Mayfield and Ruby “Tootie” Lorraine Walker Mayfield of Medina; grandparents, Robert Mayfield and Daisy Bell Mayfield Weber and Charles Daniel Walker and Tina Mae McGrew Walker; sons, Richard Darrell Mayfield Jr. and his wife, Tiffney, and William Cole Mayfield; grandchildren, Christian, Robert, Raif, Canyon and William Cole Jr.
A funeral service was held Saturday, March 20, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera, officiated by Pastor Bill Stegemueller. Interment followed at Oak Rest cemetery.
Pallbearers include Rick Mayfield, William Mayfield, Linden Mayfield, Billy Barton, Gary Stokes and Mark Crawford.
Honorary Pallbearers were Chuck Whitehead, Ron Barton and Arlen Williams.

Gregorio Rodriguez Jr.

Gregorio Rodriguez Jr., 90, of Bandera, passed away on Monday, March 22. A hard-working man, he worked for many businesses and on ranches in Bandera.
Mr. Rodriguez is survived by his wife of 51 years, Angelita Rodriguez, of Bandera; daughters, Norma Rios and her husband, Johnny, of Fredericksburg; Nollia Gonzales and her husband, Rodolfo, of Bandera; Dorelia Rodriguez of Bandera; and Linda Sue Reyna and her husband, John, also of Bandera; sons, Rene Rodriguez and his wife, Melinda, of Kerrville, and Ray Rodriguez of Bandera; sister Francis Rosas and her husband, Robert, of Helotes; brother Joe Rodriguez and his wife, Sally, of Bandera; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his son, Roland Rodriguez, and many brothers and sisters.
Family visitation took place on Tuesday, March 23, at Grimes Funeral Chapels. A Rosary was held on Wednesday, March 24, immediately followed by the funeral at Grimes Funeral Chapels with Deacon Robert Stein officiating. Interment followed at the new Catholic cemetery with grandsons as the pallbearers.

Warren McCollough Murphy
1920-2010
Warren McCollough Murphy, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 21, 2010 just 15 days prior to his 90th birthday.
Warren was a graduate of Texas A&M; and was a World War II Veteran, serving as Captain in the U.S. Army. He received the Purple Heart after being shot in France.
After leaving the Army he headed for the Hill Country looking for seclusion from the world. He bought the Wildcat Ranch, raising sheep and mohair goats. He enjoyed the solitude and beauty of his land. Unfortunately, the State of Texas also saw the beauty of his land, taking a sizable portion of it, now known as Lost Maples.
He was born March 8, 1920 to France Mae McCollough and Horace Stuart Murphy, Sr. He had one older brother, Horace Murphy, Jr. He is survived by a nephew, Horace S. Murphy III, one niece, Helen F. Murphy, four great nephews and seven great-grand nieces and nephews.
He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.

Wesley Ray Moore
1951-2010
Wesley Ray Moore passed away on Saturday, Feb. 27, at his home in Bandera. He was born August 29, 1951, in San Antonio. Wesley managed his family’s ranch and loved collecting guns and knives.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Clarene, of Bandera; son Matthew Moore of Bandera; parents, Karl and Bettye Jeane Moore of San Antonio; brother Jim Moore and his wife, Helen, of San Antonio; brother Steven Moore and his wife, Betty, of Houston; sister Sue Ann and her husband, Glen, of Seguin; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Elva Hubka, of Campbelton; and sister-in-law Juanita Scales and family of Rusk, as well as nine nephews, five nieces, seven great-nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and friends.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, March 3, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera, officiated by Brother Bill Kroeger.
Burial followed at the family cemetery, the John, MayLala, Jones cemetery, on the ranch.
Pallbearers were David Stevens, Kenneth Green, Manuel Salazar, Jimmy Sarabia, Brad Cummings and Preston Calk. Honorary pallbearer was Felix Torres.

Annie L. Turner
1923-2010
Annie L. Turner, 82, of Lakehills, passed away on Saturday, March 13.
She was born to Louis and Josephine Zinsmeister on Jan. 17, 1923, on Park Road 37 in Pipe Creek where the Cline Ranch is currently located.
Annie loved to help her father to fix fences. Her mother raised chickens to sell for Sunday dinner. The family also sold eggs, but Annie didn’t like to gather the eggs because of chicken snakes so her mother had to do it.
While growing up in the Medina Lake area, her brothers, Henry, Johnie and Edward, taught her to hunt. Annie became a good hunter, who bagged a deer almost every year. And, no one dressed out her game or cleaned her fish for the pan.
She worked at Kelly Air Force Base and was very proud of her 31 years of service. She started out as a machinist, but after World War II was assigned to office work. Annie retired from Kelly Air Force Base in 1979.
During this time she also traveled with her husband to the New England states, Colorado and Florida.
A member of the American Legion Association, #410 Lakehills and the Sgt. Association Auxiliary, Annie was also involved in the Medina Lake Volunteer Fire Department and AARP.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Silas Turner of Lakehills; stepson Tim Turner and step-grandson Brandon and their wives; a step-granddaughter; nephews, Edward and John of Boerne and Harold Zinsmeister of Mico; nieces, Maxie of San Antonio; Dorothy Vinsent of San Antonio and Angnes Odom; and cousins, Lee Parker of Delaware, and Marlene Grothues.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers.
Visitation was held Wednesday, March 17, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera. The funeral service will take place at 10 am, Thursday, March 18, also at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera. Interment will follow at Pipe Creek cemetery.
