Clara Lorene “Clarene” Moore
1948-2016
Mrs. Clara Lorene “Clarene” Moore, 67, years old of Pleasanton, passed away Tuesday, June 21, in San Antonio.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1948, in Atascosa County to Echols and Lorene Scales. Clarene married
Wesley Ray Moore on May 9, 1970 in Pleasanton, and the couple adopted their son, Matthew, on Dec. 5, 1983.
Clarene graduated from Pleasanton High School and worked as daycare teacher for 20 years. Clarene enjoyed collecting dolls and loved to drink Diet Coke.
She is survived by her son, Matthew Moore and his wife, Courtney; nephews, John Hubka and his wife, Sonya Mello; Wayne Hubka and his wife, Eileen; Buddy Scales and his wife, Nicki; Ricky Scales and his wife, Crystal; and Pat Barton and his wife, Patty; niece Gena Scales; cousin Laverne Kidd; sister-in-law Juanita Scales; mother-in-law Bettye Jeane Moore; sister-in-law Sue Green and her husband, Glen; and brothers-in-law, Jim Moore and his wife, Helen, and Steven Moore and his wife, Betty, as well as by numerous family and friends.
Clarene was predeceased by her husband; parents; sister Elva Hubka and her husband, Bill; brothers, Jim Scales and Eugene Scales; and father-in-law Karl Moore.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 27, at Grimes Funeral Home with Brother Bill Kroeger officiating. Burial followed at the family cemetery with pallbearers, Matthew Moore, John Hubka, Wayne Hubka, Steven Moore, Glen Green and Jesse Deimel. Honorary Pallbearer was Jim Moore.
Mary H. Wells
1937-2016
Mary H. Wells, 78, of Bandera, passed away Wednesday, June 15.
She was one born on August 1, 1937, in El Paso to Adolph and Delphina Carson. She had eight siblings. Mary married
James Wells on July 20, 1957.
For 15 to 20 years, she worked for various businesses in Bandera. Mary also accompanied her husband to Madrid, Spain during one of his military tours.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca Ybarra and her husband, Lee Roy; James Wells Jr. and his wife, Patricia; Michael Wells and his wife, Susan; Margret Giesen and her husband, Randy Qullen; Marie Hesskew and her husband, Walter; and siblings, Clara Blancas and Adolph Carson Jr.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, James; parents; and three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 23, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Father John Nolan officiating. Interment followed at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials in Mary’s name be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
Bess Marie Ferlet
1923-2016
Bess Marie Ferlet, 92, of Lakehills, passed away Wednesday, June 29.
She was born in San Antonio on August 12, 1923, to Charles Walter Wofford Jr. and Bess McIlhany.
Bess graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School on May 24, 1941. Her work career as a bookkeeper included founding Ferlet Vending Service Company, and working for Bill Pease & Sons and Shaenfield Materials.
A former selected member of the San Antonio Art League and other art associations, Bess enjoyed china painting and traveling to art shows.
For many years, she was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star and as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Bess is survived by her daughter, Lynn M. Oliver-Laurinavicius and her husband, Rommey; brother Joseph Washington Wofford and his wife, Barbara; sisters-in-law, Lissette Carpenter, Emma Ferlet and brother-in-law, Lorraine Ferlet and wife, Siglinde; nieces, Terry Sue Vick and her husband, Randy, and Barbara Joe Cox and her husband, Bill; and nephew, Joseph Patrick Wofford and his wife, Suzanne, as well as by numerous grand-nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
She was predeceased by her parents; older brother Charles Walter Wofford III; husband, Liberty McKinney Ferlet Jr.; and husband and father of her daughter, August Leonard Moore.
A visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm, Thursday, July 7, at Grimes Chapel of Bandera.
Funeral services will take place at 11 am, Friday, July 8, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera, with Rev. Celia Halfacre officiating. Graveside service will follow at 2:30 pm at San Fernando III cemetery in San Antonio.
Clara Marie Kadura Lee
1934-2016
Clara Marie Kadura Lee, 81, entered eternal rest on Monday, July 4, in Bandera after a lengthy battle from Parkinson’s Disease.
She was born Nov. 10, 1934, in San Antonio to Joseph and Christina Kadura.
Clara graduated from St. Gerard Catholic High School in1953 where she proudly twirled her baton for team spirit.
She married
Damon Lee on July 3, 1953, while he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base. They were married
for 46 years and had three children, Scott, Debby and Diane. After living in San Antonio, Laredo, England and Georgia, the couple retired to Pipe Creek.
Clara started her Civil Service career in 1962 while her husband was stationed at Moody Air Force base in Georgia. She retired from Joint Personal Property Office (JPPSO) in 1994. Her last position was as a GS-7, Personal Property Inspector for shipping goods for the military in the San Antonio area.
Since 1955, Clara was a member of Hermann Sons, Lodge 160 of San Antonio. She enjoyed riding horses, country-western dancing, playing bingo, camping at Garner State Park and visiting the beach with her family.
Embroidering became a passion for Clara and she loved presenting her embroidered pillowcases and other items to her loved ones. She was also blessed to have traveled to England, Germany, France, Ireland and Cancun.
Clara is survived by her daughter Diane Lee of Bandera, with whom she shared a home; grandson Michael Lee and Brittany Pitts of Pipe Creek; great-grandson Kaden Lee and Chaysen; son Scott Lee and his spouse, Gioconda, of Boerne; granddaughter Jasmine Lee of the United States Navy and her spouse, Chris Pandolfo, of Manhattan, New York; grandson Joseph Lee and Lauren Francis of San Antonio; granddaughter Marie Dawe and her husband, Jeff, of Pipe Creek; great-grandchildren, Alisa, Chelsie and Trey; grandson Robert Lee Murphey of Pipe Creek; sister Florence Tripp of San Antonio; and many nieces and nephews.
Clara was predeceased by her husband, Damon Lee; daughter Debby Windham; granddaughter Christy; great-grandson Alex; her parents; sister Dorothy Willis and her husband, Leroy Willis; and brother in-law Hank Tripp.
Clara’s strong Catholic faith was instilled in her from her Mother, Christina Kadura; St. James Catholic Church; and St. Gerard High School. She also felt the support from her fellow parishioners from St. Victor’s in Lakehills and St. Stanislaus in Bandera, who visited her at home when she was no longer able to attend Mass. The prayer blankets from St. Victor’s always gave her faith in the healing power of prayer.
A special blessing goes to Father John, Rosemary and Ruth for making those much-needed home visits and for the prayers and spiritual support we are blessed with.
Diane Lee and Clara’s family offer heartfelt appreciation to River City Hospice for the care and support provided; the Silver Sage Meals on Wheels program and the staff at Cedar Creek Nursing Center for the care provided to Clara.
Deepest gratitude and love goes out to Nancy Phelps and Shellie Tuma for their care and friendship, to Jackie Blackmore for her longtime friendship and to the extended family at Coventry Health Care-Aetna for the support and prayers.
In honor of Clara’s Catholic faith, a rosary and mass will be held at St. Stanislaus Church at 10 am, Saturday July 9. Burial will take place at Pipe Creek cemetery immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clara’s name to St. Victors Catholic Chapel in Lakehills, St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera or to Silver Sage Meals on Wheels program.
Cheyanne Jenkins Short
1996 – 2016
Cheyanne Jenkins Short, 20, of Bandera, passed away to heaven on Wednesday, Dec. 7, in Beaufort, SC.
Cheyanne was born in Cape Coral, FL. to Clifford & Dennyeill Jenkins on February 9, 1996 and was a 2014 graduate of Bandera High School and had attended Tarleton State University with continuing studies at Northwest Vista College.
Cheyanne was the beloved wife of Joseph Clay (JC) Short, married
only recently, Oct. 25, in Medina.
As an event planner for the City of Bandera, Cheyanne was ever present at the Cowboy Capital’s venues and celebrations year round. Her volunteer spirit and investment of personal time to achieve success set a fine example of community involvement. Her leadership in 4-H and with numerous other clubs and organizations provided guidance, support and mentorship to peers and friends alike.
Known to her close friends as “Jenkies”, with a love for both people & animals, Cheyanne was known for her positive and uplifting outlook on life, great sense of humor and for never taking “NO” for an answer. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Cheyanne is survived by her beloved husband JC Short, sister Cassandra Jenkins, parents Clifford & Dennyeill Jenkins, Grandparents Bob & Eva Stalnaker, along with numerous extended family.
Memorial visitation will be Friday, Dec. 16 from 5 pm until 7 pm and funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, Dec. 17 with both at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Pastor David James & Louada Raschke of Louada Raschke Ministries will officiate.
A reception will follow the funeral services at 1307 Mulberry St., across the street from Grimes.
Graveside services will be in Vanderpool for the friends and families immediately following the Grimes Service.
