Marguerite Stevens
1923-2010
Marguerite Stevens passed away Tuesday, April 13, at her home in Bandera.
She was born July 14, 1923, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Calvin Henry Lankford and Sharlotte Catherine LeCroy.
Marguerite moved to Bandera in 1944 and married
Wesley Ray Stevens in Bandera on Nov. 6, that same year.
Beginning in 1946, Marguerite worked in the office of Bandera County Sheriff WH Burns. She became chief deputy in 1947, serving in that capacity until 1950.
Marguerite was employed in the Bandera County Tax Office in 1966 and worked her way up to the office of Tax Assessor and Collector in 1975. She served in that office for 19 years until her retirement. By December 1994, she had accumulated a total of 32 years of county service.
After retiring, Marguerite enjoyed taking exercise classes at the Silver Sage Corral Senior Activity Center and traveling across the country with her friends. Her favorite post-retirement times were spent attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
One quotation of note from Marguerite in her last days was: “I had a good life and enjoyed every moment.”
Marguerite is survived by her son Wesley and his wife, Vickie; daughter Jan and her husband, Ed; grandchildren, Shaw; Zack; Wesley Ray III and his wife, Becky; Levi; Chris; and Marissa; and great-grandson Lane.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 21, at Bandera cemetery, with Robert Hocker officiating. Friends of Marguerite were invited to her house after the services to share memories of her with the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be sent to the Bandera Sports Complex, PO Box 2901, Bandera 78003. Checks should be notated “Marguerite Stevens.”

Gwyndolyn Y. Mayhew
1924-2010
Gwyndolyn Y. Mayhew, 85, of Pipe Creek, passed away Monday, April 12.
She was born on October 10, 1924 to James and Irene Gardner Wilborn in Olney, Texas.
Mrs. Mayhew was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Mayhew of Pipe Creek; daughters, Shirley Martin and her husband, Keith, of Pipe Creek and Robin Mayhew of Pipe Creek; sons, Royce Mayhew of Pipe Creek; and Jimmie Mayhew and his wife, Wanda, of Pipe Creek; sisters, Nita Bohn of Oregon, Betty Cartwright of Fort Worth, Carol Tetts of Granberry, Essie Kerley of Fort Worth; and Ramona Fest of Granberry; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Friday, April 16, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera, officiated by Richard Cobbler. A graveside service with interment at San Fernando #3 in San Antonio followed later that afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gwyndolyn’s name to Vista Care Hospice, 1001 Water Street, Kerrville 78028.

Larry Dean Park
1951-2010
Larry Dean Park, 58, of Bandera, passed away Tuesday, April 20. He was born to De Nean and Betty Norvell Park on August 27, 1951 in Austin.
Larry was employed as a plumber and was an avid hunter. He loved to spend time with his children and enjoyed snow skiing. He will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Jean Park of Bandera; daughter De Nean Park of Bandera; sons, Allan Moreland of Bryan, and Wesley Moreland and Christopher Orvis, both of Bandera; sisters, Denice Williams and her husband, Ted, of Dickinson; Gwen Janes and her husband, Rick, of Bandera; and Cindy Samford and her husband, Travis, of Hondo.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 24, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera, officiated by Mr. Martin Smith.
In lieu of flowers the family request that you become an organ donor.

Finn Rasmussen
1964-2010
Finn Rasmussen, 45, of Bandera, passed away Thursday, April 22, in Medina.
He was born June 14, 1964, in Nykobing, Denmark to Jens Aage and Inger Rasmussen.
On Oct. 21, 2004, he married
Gay Guilott in Nykobing, in his family’s church.
Finn came to the United States for a vacation to see Texas and the cowboys. He landed in Dallas and was disappointed. He then traveled to Corpus Christi and to the River Walk in San Antonio and remained extremely disappointed.
On his way back to Dallas, however, he stopped at a convenience store just outside of Boerne when a complete stranger said to him, “You look troubled, what do you need?” Finn told him his story and the stranger replied, “You need to go to Bandera.”
Finn ended up at the Equestrian Lodge, staying with Diane Tobin and Peter Lovett for a few months. He fell in love with the area and was determined to stay. He later met and married
the love of his life, Gay Guilott.
Finn became a US citizen on Sept. 18, 2008. He owned and operated a contracting business, FINN-CAN-FIX-IT, in Bandera for over seven years.
Survivors include son Martin Rasmussen and daughter Kristina Rasmussen of Sonderborge; Demark; brothers, Karl Aage and Bjarne Rasmussen of Nykobing, Denmark; and sister Birthe Larsen of Frederikshavn, Denmark.
In lieu of services and flowers, memorials may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Bandera County at PO Box 3155, Bandera, 78003 in Finn’s name.

Marilyn Mae Gardner Ford
1930-2010
Marilyn Mae Gardner Ford returned to Spirit on Friday, Feb. 26.
She was born March 18, 1930, in Norfolk, Nebraska. A celebration of her exquisite life will occur at 1 pm, Saturday, March 13, at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church on Highway 173 in Bandera
The families of her daughters, Deborah Ford Femat of Austin; Susan Ford Nicholson of Arvada, Colorado; and Lisa Ford Nikkel of Houston, will love her eternally – as will others with whom she shared her joy, grace and beauty.
Her ashes will be interred next to those of her mother, Pearl Harris Gardner, former owner of the Joleta Dude Ranch.
Geneive Francis Hubble Whitehead
1934-2010
Geneive Francis Hubble Whitehead, 75, of Medina, passed away after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, March 2, at a Kerrville care facility.
She was born on April 4, 1934, in Canadian, Texas, to Henry “HY” Hubble and Elizabeth Dugosh Hubble – the youngest of 15 children. The family moved back to Bandera County, where she attended school. As a teenager, Geneive worked at the Best Yet Cafe in Bandera.
She married
EC Whitehead on May 17, 1949, and the couple lived on the Whitehead Ranch in Medina throughout their married
life. She also worked at Live Oak Cafe and Collins of Texas.
Geneive enjoyed hunting and fishing with her family, as well as quilting, knitting, crocheting, oil painting and flower gardening. She also collected rocks on the ranch and completely rocked the exterior of the family ranch house, hunting cabin, fireplaces and flowerbeds.
Geneive could do anything she set her mind to do.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Medina.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, EC Whitehead of Medina; daughter Rita Simons and her husband, Rex; and son EC Whitehead Jr. and his wife, Sandy, all of Medina; grandchildren, Allen Simons and his wife, Lorraine, of Shanghai, China; Rachel Simons; Judy Salazar and her husband, John; Michael Simons and Chris Whitehead and fiancée, Devie George, and her daughter, Katie, all of Medina; great-grandchildren, Anthony and Daniel Oranday, Evie Ruiz, Johnny and Gwen Salazar, all of Medina; and Maximus Simons of Shanghai; brothers, HW “Buddy’ Hubble of Medina and Tommy Hubble of Bandera; and sister Victoria Cabiness of Medina, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends and beloved family dog, Matt.
Geneive was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Deborah Lynn; grandson Kirk Whitehead; sisters, Rena, Eula, Bula, Clara, Angie, Lecamae, Charolette, Cleo, Mickey and Ebbie; and brother Leo.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff, nurses, aides and kitchen staff at River Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they provided for – as they called her – “Miss Whitehead.” The family would also like to express their gratitude to the entire staff of Peterson Pathways for their assistance.
A family visitation held on Wednesday, March 3, at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera and a funeral service, also at Grimes Funeral Chapels, followed on Thursday, March 4, officiated by Dr. Allie Balko and assisted by Brother Bill Mosely. Interment was at Oak Rest cemetery.
Pallbearers included Dr. Henry L. Hubble, Tommy Hubble Jr., John Causey, Tommy Schmidt, Rocky Hubble, Michael Simons, Chris Whitehead and Gary Hubble. The remaining nephews served as honorary pallbearers.
