At that time, Carrol and her older sister, Sandra “Sandy” went to live with their grandmother, Caroline Moores. When her grandmother passed away in 1954, both girls went to live with their aunt and uncle, Ralph and Arline Downes, and their two children. While living in Lebanon, she became a dedicated member of the Lebanon Emblem Club #358, as well as an avid supporter of the Lebanon Elks #2099. Carrol served as a past president, and received the Sister of the Year and the Marion Hawes awards.

Her true passion was her family and friends. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her daughters and four grandchildren. She never left Bangor, Maine without grabbing a sandwich at her favorite place, the Coffee Pot Sandwich Shop.

Carrol leaves behind her daughters, Kimberly “Kim” Mansell Laine and her husband, Marc, of Pipe Creek; and Tammi Mansell Chaffee and her husband, Shaine, of Post Mills, Vermont; sisters, Sandra Moores Leonard and her partner, Shawn, of Southport, Maine; and Mary Downes Hardy and her husband, Ray, of Fort Myers, Florida; brother-in-law Ralph Mansell and his wife, Debra, of Storrs, Connecticut; sister-in-law Beverly Cole Mansell of Bangor; and four precious grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy, Shaine “Shainey” Chaffee Jr. of Post Mills, and Ryleigh, Madelynn “Mattie” and Robert “Bobby” Laine of Pipe Creek, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
