James Jack Qualls

James Jack Qualls, 68, of Pipe Creek, passed away on Friday, March 12.
He was born to Charles J. Qualls and Mary Loraine Siddall Qualls in Cisco.
Jack had a long career with USAA and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from North Texas University.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gwendolyn Brandt Qualls of Pipe Creek; son Andrew Qualls and his wife, Jessica, of San Antonio; honorary daughter, Katherine Eckert of San Antonio; brothers, F. Ronald Qualls and his wife, Barbara, and C. Robert Qualls and his wife, Pat; and sister Nancy Haynes and her husband, Jesse, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
A private burial took place at Pipe Creek cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, March 28, at the Silver Sage Corral Senior Activity Center, 803 Buck Creek Boulevard. Everyone is invited to attend and share favorite memories of Jack.

Kelly Eugene Lynam
1962-2010
Kelly Eugene Lynam, 47, of Pipe Creek, formerly of Creston, Iowa, died March 6, at his home in Pipe Creek.
Kelly was born Sept. 21, 1962, to Betty and Wayne Lynam. Kelly was a carpenter.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Lynam, and stepfather Larry Williams of Creston; daughter Ashley Smith of Red Oak; grandchildren, Emma and AJ; nephew Dalton Lynam of Pipe Creek; sisters, Melinda Norton of Pennsylvania and Amy Ross of Red Oak; and brother Rodney Lynam of Gretna, Nebraska.
Kelly was preceded in death by his father and brother Lonnie Lynam.

Albert “Boob” Sanchez
1928-2010
Albert “Boob” Sanchez passed away on Saturday, Feb. 27, in Bandera.
Albert is survived by his devoted wife, partner and best friend, Jean Shin Sanchez, and the couple’s son, Ken.
Al was born on June 4, 1928, in Mount Union, Pennsylvania, to Hazel Snyder and Jose Sanchez Irastorza. He was the oldest of four siblings, who include Dolores McCrory and Lee Sanchez of Lewistown, Pennsylvania, and the late Dick Sanchez, formerly of New Carlisle, Ohio.
Al attended Lewistown High School, and then served in the United States Navy for two years. He also worked in government service from 1951 until his retirement from Kelly Air Force base in 1983. In 1966, Al and Jean moved from Pennsylvania to Texas; at which time, Texas became home.
Through the years, Al relished his life with Jean as they worked and played together. They shared many memorable times with family and friends on cruises, trips to Mexico and Big Bend or during simple outings in the backyard or floating on Medina Lake.
Al loved his home and land in Pipe Creek. Over the years, he cleared the land and maintained a garden. In recent years, he spoiled friends with gifts of tomatoes.
Al also had a special fondness for animals. He doted on his pets and admired the wildlife that his land supported. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lakehills Baptist Church.
Al’s sense of humor, good nature, kindness of heart and generosity will always be remembered by his many family and friends. Al, you are loved.
Memorial services were held on Monday, March 8, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera, officiated by Pastor James Ennis of Lakehills Baptist Church.

Henry W. “Buddy” Hubble
1920-2010
Buddy was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Wilmer and went home to be with our Lord, at the age of 90, on Saturday, March 6. He led a full life with a lot of hard work.
When he married
Nora Ann Bendele on Sept. 28, 1940, Buddy was a bull rider. He promised his wife he would quit bull riding after he won the contest on Labor Day 1946. He needed to win enough money to pay Nora Ann’s hospital bill. He won the bull riding contest and $104, which paid for all expenses of the birth of his fourth daughter. After that, he became a judge at local bull riding events at rodeos.
Buddy also worked on the Camp Ranch for five years taking care of the goats, sheep and cattle and breaking horses. He then moved to the Morris Ranch in Bandera for a year where he continued to work with horses. The family then moved back to Medina to stay, where Buddy did custom farming and sheared a lot of sheep and goats in the area.
He loved to hunt deer and a lot of ranchers in the area let him hunt to feed his growing family. Some still have trophy horns which he killed in his pursuit.
Buddy also served as a Bandera County Commissioner for 16 years, from 1957 to 1972. He was considered a working commissioner as his constituents routinely saw him grading a county road. He then served as county road superintendent from 1973-1987, before retiring with 30 years of service with Bandera County.
Buddy retired to his tractor, which he loved working on. He continued to mow in the area until the end of 2009. He also served as director of the Bandera County River Authority and was a member of First Baptist Church, Medina.
He is survived by nine of his 10 children, Frances A Kaiser; J. Elaine Snell and her husband, Gene; Carol J. Bronstad and her husband, Gerald; Terry S. McDonald, Henry L. Hubble and his wife, Chula; Jackie L. Doyle and her husband, Kent; Carl S. Hubble and his wife, Betty Faye; Rocky A. Hubble and his wife, Linda; and Robert W. Hubble and his wife, Annette.
Buddy is also survived by brother Tommy Hubble; sister Victoria Cabiness; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, EC Whitehead and Loraine Hubble, as well as 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Dugosh Hubble; wife of 67 and a half years, Nora Ann; daughter Gail J. Evans; granddaughter Sherrie Rhodes; grandson Ty Massey and son-in-law, Richard Kaiser; and – out of 15 children – brother Leo and 11 sisters, Rena, Eula, Bula; Clare, Angie, Lesa Mae, Charlotte, Cleo, Mickie, Ebbie and Geneive; two sisters-in-law, and numerous brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Family visitation took place at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera on Monday, March 8. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 9, officiated by Brother Bill Moseley, also at Grimes. Interment followed at the West Prong cemetery.
Buddy’s grandsons – Bart Kaiser, Jerry Bronstad, Paxton McDonald, Luke Hubble, Cody Doyle, Mic Hubble, Matt Hubble and Blake Hubble – served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Brett Kaiser, Troy Bronstad, Levi Hubble, Cully Doyle, Ryan Doyle and Cole Hubble. Granddaughters are Karla Nix, Melody Payne, Melissa Poorman, Heather Bonura, Becky Jenkins, Dona Evans, Casey Williams, Ashley Hubble and Kayla Hubble.
The family requests that donations be made in Buddy’s name to the Medina Volunteer Fire Department or to a charity of choice.

Dan Huffman
1923-2010
Dan Huffman, 87, of Bandera, passed away on Saturday, August 14, in a local healthcare facility.
He was born on June 30, 1923, in Humble to Thomas and Willie May Huffman. His parents preceded him in death.
Dan married
Peggy Briscoe on March 23, 1946, in Humble.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Navy. Dan was also vice president of the Atlas Appliance Company.
Dan is survived by his wife, Peggy Huffman, of Bandera; son Brandon Huffman; grandchildren, Harrison Huffman and Lesley Ann Self Walker; and great-grandchildren, Aubry Walker and Brooke Walker.
