Bill R. Moore
1924-2008
Bill R. Moore, 84, was born in the Running Water Creek community in Schwisher County to Charles R. and Nannie Mae Finney Moore on Jan. 10, 1924.
Early in his life, his family relocated to Medina, making their way by wagon and mules. Bill attended school in the Medina School District and graduated in 1943.
Always the cowboy, Bill worked on the family ranch mending fences, working cattle and breaking horses until he entered into World War II in 1944. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater until 1946.
Bill married
Laverne Crider on July 26, 1962, in Hunt. The couple made their life by ranching in West and Central Texas. In 1965, while ranching in Real County on the Chittim Ranch (Bowman Ranch), the Crider’s twin sons, William H. and Robert R., were born.
After retiring in 1986, the couple returned to Medina to work their own ranch. Laverne still resides in Medina.
Bill’s survivors include his wife of 46 years, Laverne; twin sons, Bill and his wife, Tracy, of Hunt and Bob and his wife, Carmen, of Medina; grandchildren, Megan Moore of San Antonio, Morgan Moore and Dakota Moore of Hunt, Christopher Moore and his wife, Sandra, and great-grandchild, Yadira of Decatur; Joseph Moore and Monica of Kerrville; sister Helen Hicks of Medina; and brothers, Charlie Moore and LD Moore of Medina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nannie Mae; brother Clarence Moore; and sister, Medina Brooks Goodenough.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville. Interment followed at a family cemetery across from Crider's Dancehall in Hunt.
Pallbearers were James Brice, David Brice, Mike Keys, Tony Fries, John Allen Henderson and Ed Martin.
When asked by her northern friends if there were real cowboys in Texas, Bill’s granddaughter replied, “My Grandpa.” All his life, Bill Moore remained “A True Cowboy.”
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
David Russell Zwiener Sr.
1940-2008
David Russell Zwiener died on Monday, Dec. 22, in a Boerne care center after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1940, in San Antonio to Russell Leon Zwiener and Lorraine Rae Robinson.
Mr. Zwiener is survived by daughter Kelly Porterfield and her husband, Jimmy, of Pipe Creek; daughter Kerry Zwiener of Phoenix, Arizona; son Rusty Zwiener of San Antonio; sister Sandi Gastine and her husband, Roland, of Pleasanton; and grandchildren JD, Michaela, Evan and Christopher Porterfield, all of Pipe Creek. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends celebrated his life on Monday, Dec. 29 at the Wild Horse Saloon.
Joan Blankenship
1933-2008
Joan Blankenship, 75, of Bandera, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, Dec. 28.
She was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, to Homer and Carrie Drummond on May 15, 1933.
Joan will be remembered as a wonderful cook and an honest and kindhearted person.
Survivors include son Donald Richard Blankenship of Clay, West Virginia; daughters, Deborah Ann Spoonire and her husband, Bobby, of Bandera, and Linda Sue Adkins and her husband, Amos, of Clay; brother William Drummond and his wife, Connie of Hempstead, Maryland; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 2, at Pipe Creek cemetery with Mr. William Bowie officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Bandera Bank to assist with funeral expenses.

Steven Samuel Bodie
1960-2009
Steven Samuel Bodie, 48, of Bandera, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14.
He was born on July 26, 1960, to Richard and Patsy Bodie in Topeka, Kansas.
Steven was veteran of the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division; he was injured during active duty. He belonged to the Disabled American Veterans Association and worked as a dispatcher with the Holloman Fire Department.
As a member of the Church of Christ, Steven lived life daily with God. Especially gifted with his hands, he practiced faith through his woodwork. He also dreamed of being a farmer.
Steven was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Richard and Patsy Bodie of La Luz, New Mexico; wife Carey Bodie of Bandera; daughters, Aubrey Davila and her husband, Gilbert, of Kerrville, and Danielle Markham and her husband, Daniel, of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Gareth Bodie and his wife, Amanda, of San Antonio; brother Thomas Michael Bodie of Alamogordo; grandchildren, Destiny Markham, Devon Markham, Lillyyana Bodie, Makayla Bodie, Emmery Davila and another expected; nephew Ryan Michael Bodie; nieces, Nicole and April Bodie; great grandmother-in-law, Margaret Hayes of Farmington, New Hampshire; mother-in-law, Jane Rose Beck of Alamogordo; father-in-law, Ronald Orin Beck of Alamogordo; and brothers-in-law, Ron, Erich, and Bart Beck, as well as numerous niece and nephews.
A memorial service took place Tuesday, Jan. 20, officiated by Doug Markham at the Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera. Graveside services were held at 11:30 am, Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the Fort Sam Houston cemetery in San Antonio.

Tyrus “Ty” Mills
1927-2009
Tyrus “Ty” Mills, 81, of Helotes, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, in a San Antonio Hospital.
He was born on February 17, 1927, to Clarence and Naomi Mills in San Antonio.
Ty was very proud of his Native American, Lakota Sioux heritage. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Helotes and a member of the Davy Crockett Masonic Lodge. In addition, he was a life member of the NRA and member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Ty was also a veteran of the United States Navy.
A good Christian man, he will be missed by all that knew him.
Ty is survived by his wife, June “Jo” Mills of Helotes; daughter Sharon Chilson of Bandera; son Toby Mills of Pipe Creek; very dear friends, Shawn Keller of Lytle, Max Soffer of Livingston, Odessa Tindal of Helotes and Little Buddy Dog, Lakota; and grandchildren, Cody Mills and Leas Beth Mills of Pipe Creek.
Visitation was from 6 pm until 8 pm, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The funeral service will be Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2 pm, officiated by Brother Earl Belver at the Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera. Interment will follow at the Bandera cemetery.

Linda Ann Necker
1942-2009
Linda Ann Necker, 66, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 17, in San Antonio. She was born on March 23, 1942, to Colin and Bertie Avey, who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Incarnate Word High School, and married
John Leslie Necker in 1961. The couple made their home in San Antonio until moving to Boerne in June 1984.
Linda and her husband owned and operated The Cabaret Restaurant Dance Hall in Bandera from 1993-1996. In addition, they opened The Back Porch Restaurant in Boerne, which they operated until it closed in 2007 due to health problems. Linda was known for her delicious home-cooked food.
A loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, she enjoyed bowling and square dancing, and was a devout Catholic and member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Boerne.
Linda is survived by her husband of 47 years, John; three children, Debora Lynn Jones and her husband, Blake; Brenda Sue Necker; and John Leslie Necker Jr. and his wife, Faith; two grandchildren, Derek Klumpp and Grace Necker; two step-grandchildren, Amanda and Madison Jones; sister Coleen Harris and her husband, Craig; a stepsister, Carol Skloss and her husband, Herman; and three sisters-in-law, Rosemary Tips; Margie Petri and her husband, Max; and Dottie Knodell and her husband, Tom.
A funeral mass was held Thursday, Jan. 22, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Antonio. Entombment followed in Holy Cross cemetery.
