Bertie Lou Franz
1928-2009
Bertie Lou Franz, 80, of San Antonio, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1928, to Harold and Rosa Mae Scofield in Akron, Ohio.
She will be remembered as a dedicated mother and grandmother.
Bertie is survived by daughters, Denna Quinn and her husband, Fred; and Terri Ritchie; son Frederick Franz; grandchildren, Ginger Horchler and her husband, Jim; Tana Martin and her husband, Dale; Tommy Hoffman and his wife, Cathy; Matthew Sites and his wife, Tina; Todd and Corey Ritchie and Casi and Harlee Ritchie; great grandchildren, Jonathan and Julie Horchler; Justin, Nathan, Reagan, Kayla and Jeremy Hoffman; Matthew Jr. and Karlie Lou Sites; Dylan Zinsmeyer; Ethan and Cobe Martin; brother-in-law, Don Bittner; and cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Jordon Weber.
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera, with Martin Smith officiating. Interment was at Pipe Creek cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dale Martin, Dylan Zinsmeyer, Skot Ingram, Wade Ritchie, Todd Ritchie and Corey Ritchie.
A memorial account in the name of Bertie Lou Franz has been set up at the Bandera Bank.

Virginia “Ruthie” Richards
1955-2008
Virginia “Ruthie” Richards, 53, of Medina, passed away on Monday, Dec. 22
She was born Sept. 12, 1955 to LL “Slim” Pitcox and Clara Myrtle Baker Pitcox in Muleshoe.
Ruthie was employed by the Medina Independent School District as the cafeteria supervisor. She was a great lady who will be missed by all who knew her.
Ruthie is survived by her husband, Ronnie Lynn Richards of Medina; sons, Jay Shaw of Bandera, and Chance and Chase Sides of Medina; sisters, Judy Ann Olievira and her husband, Ed, of Fruitvale, and Elain O'Clair and her husband, Bob, of Buffalo Gap; brother Larry Weldon Pitcox of Abilene; and grandchildren,
Justin, Ashley, and Kendra Shaw of Bandera, as well as numerous nephews.
Memorial services will be held at the First Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec. 27, officiated by Connie Simon.

Virginia Gloria Gibson
1926-2008
Virginia Gloria Gibson, 82, of Lakehills, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1926 to Herman and Catherine Hart in North Arlington, New Jersey.
Visitation will be held from 4 pm until 8 pm, Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera. Funeral services will take place in Katy, with arrangements still pending.

Dollie Dugosh Schoenert
1910-2009
Dollie Dugosh Schoenert, 98, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, in a Bandera care facility.
She was born April 15, 1910, near Bandera to Casper Frank Dugosh and Lenora Katherine Aaron Dugosh, who preceded her in death.
Dollie was the second of the couple’s four daughters. Since there were no boys in the family, she helped her father work in the fields and attended school when possible.
She became the bride of Edwin Welder Schoenert at the Baptist parsonage in Bandera on Oct. 6, 1934. Her husband preceded her in death in a tragic accident on Nov. 29, 1953. After Edwin’s death, Dollie learned to drive the family car to be independent. She wanted to drive to work and provide for herself and the couple’s teenage daughter, Margie.
Dollie worked in homes and cafes and as a caretaker for children. For many years, she worked for the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Williams and also served as nursery attendant at the First Baptist Church in Bandera.
Although she was employed away from her home, Dollie still enjoyed growing potted plants and flowers in her yard.
She also made jelly and preserves and baked special pear cakes, which she often shared with others.
However, Dollie’s main interest was quilting, which she continued to do until reaching the age of 97.
She quilted for others and made many beautiful quilts, which she offered for sale or presented to family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Margie Bratton; grandson Billy Bratton and his wife, Kathy; and two great-grandsons, Remington and Kolton Bratton, all of Bandera, as well as four nieces, two nephews and several cousins.
Also preceding her in death were her three sisters, Arena Hager, Clara Duff and Edith Brownlee.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 12, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera with Mr. Martin Smith officiating. Internment followed in the Bandera cemetery by the side of her husband.
Pallbearers were Kelly Scott, Arlen Habenicht, James Duff, Bruce Eliker, Dennis Duff and Les Short. Honorary pallbearers were CL “Cap” James, Roger Roberts, John Scott, Eddie Peters, Eugene Pennington, Joe H. Short, Bill Short, Zane Everett, Kenneth Pawvlik, Sidney Mazurek and Johnny Adamietz.

Randall Wayne Edge
1957-2008
Randall Wayne Edge, son of Ann and Nelson Edge of Bandera, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 21, as the result of a traffic accident while working in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia .
Randy is survived by his mother and father; daughter Dawn Edge and her two children; son Michael Edge; and their mother, Lynn Edge. His brother and sister, Gary and Lesli Edge, also mourn his passing.
Randy was a free spirit, who lived his life to the fullest. He loved to read, travel and be with his family and friends. Randy will be greatly missed.
Hugh L. Lagedrost
1923-2009
Hugh L. Lagedrost, age 85, a resident of Boerne for 36 years, passed away at his home Thursday, Jan. 8.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, on June 9, 1923, he was the son of Frederick Lagedrost and Kathryn Gearin Lagedrost, who preceded him in death.
As a World War II Veteran of the Army Air Force, he proudly served his country in the 95th Heavy Bomber Group.
Hugh was a man who demonstrated outstanding achievements throughout his accomplished professional career.
In addition to earning a PhD degree in architecture, he served as a professional real estate inspector, master real estate appraiser, environmental inspector CEI, CEM, code enforcement officer TDH and interior designer, as well as being a lifetime member of the Chamber of Commerce.
Hugh loved life and had a passion for reading, drawing and spending time with his family and loved ones. He will be remembered most as a beloved dad and grandpa – deeply missed, but never forgotten.
He is survived by the love of his life, Mary Herbert; children, T. Reed Lagedrost; Susan Lagedrost Powell and her husband, Gentry; Scott Lagedrost; Todd Simmons (Ann), Jill Lemper and her husband, Kenneth; Kelly Lagedrost, and his wife, Jessica; Holly Lagedrost, and her husband, Chuck; Eric Lagedrost; and Hugh L. Lagedrost II; 12 grandchildren; sister Janet Bretland; and niece Joann Chambers and nephew Gary Bretland and their families.
Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 13 and a funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 14 at Vaughan’s Funeral Home in Boerne, with Pastor Joe Walts officiating. Burial with military honors followed in the Boerne cemetery.
