Jimmy Garland Sutton
1929-2011
Retired MSGT Jimmy Garland Sutton of the United States Air Force, 81, passed away on Friday, Feb. 18, in a San Antonio Hospital.
He was born on July 11, 1929, in Sweetwater to James Garfield and Etta Mae Calloway Sutton.
Proudly serving his country in the United Stated Air Force for over 30 years, Jimmy was chief mechanic for Air Force One under President Lyndon B. Johnson. Jimmy also served as chief mechanic in the Strategic Air Command. He was honorably discharged from his military duties in September 1977.
Being a man of many talents and trades, Jimmy remained active after his military retirement. He became an entrepreneur, owning, at different times, a gas station and a bowling alley.
Jimmy was also an avid fisherman, and he loved to dance. He was a member of the American Legion Post 410.
Jimmy is survived by his children, Ruth Capps and her husband, Dennis, of Oregon; Paula Lowery and her husband, Roger, of Illinois; and Scott Sutton of Illinois; stepchildren, Larry Moore and Donna Collis, both of San Antonio and Lisa Moore of Bandera; sister Christine of Alabama, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 24, at Pipe Creek cemetery with Pastor Clifton Stringer officiating. Full Military Honors were rendered.
The family requests that memorials be made in Jimmy’s name to American Legion Post 410.

Judith Marie Donovan-Flynn
1989-2011
Judith Marie Donovan-Flynn, 21, passed away Wednesday, March 2, in Bandera.
She was born December 20, 1989, in Lexington, Kentucky.
Judy was married
to Carl Flynn.
Our lives have forever been changed. We have lost a loving mother, devoted wife, caring daughter and stubborn sister. You will never be forgotten. Help us with your ability to be strong, so that we may remember and cherish all the memories you have left behind.
Judith is survived by her parents, Oscar and Beth Martinez, of Bandera; grandparents, Robert Abney of Kentucky and GG Lori of Corpus Christi; daughters, Haily Beth Sturgis and Shylin Marie Flynn; sister Heather Dawn McQueen; niece Serenity Dawn McQueen; and nephew Darin Chase McQueen, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her parents have set up a trust in Judith’s name at Bandera First State Bank to help defray funeral expenses.

Swend Julius “Julio” Sorenson
1923-2011
Swend Julius “Julio” Sorenson, 87, passed away Friday, Feb. 4, at Bandera Rehabilitation & Nursing Center as the result of a fall on Dec. 12.
Julio was born Oct. 23, 1923, to the late Rasmus J. and Selma Sorenson in McAllen.
Julio married
Alma D. Johnson on June 25, 1943. He served in the United States Army during World War II from August 1944 to June 1946, during which time he received four medals. After returning to McAllen, he resumed farming until 1966 when he began working for Burns Motors until his retirement in 1990. After that time, he dabbled in selling cars on his own.
Julio and his wife, Alma, moved to Bandera in April 2005 to be closer to family.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alma Sorenson, daughters, Gerda Weathers and her husband, LA “Red” of Bandera, and Linda Killinger and her husband, Jimmie, of Pipe Creek; and son, Erik Sorenson and his wife, Dana, of Bandera; and grandchildren, Sherry Vargas of San Juan, Texas, Shawn Charmred of St. Hedwig, Kirsten Mann of San Antonio, James Robinson of Kerrville, Michael Killinger of Pipe Creek and Darik Sorenson of Bandera. Julio is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Jimmie Sorenson, Carrie Higdon, Walter Sorenson and son Julius Jimmie Sorenson.
Julius will be buried at a later date in McAllen.
Thomas E. Cavin
1931-2011
Thomas E. Cavin, 79, of Bandera, passed away on Friday, March 18.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1931, in Bexar County to the late HL and Lena Silliman Cavin. In 1954, he married
Betty Jane Richardson in San Antonio.
During the Korean War, Mr. Cavin proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1953.
For over 55 years, he owned and operated Tom Cavin Tile. Mr. Cavin also served with the Bandera County EMS for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Cavin; children, Thomas E. Cavin Jr. and his wife, Sandy; Karon G. Byrd and her husband, Buddy; Darrell G. Byrd and his wife, Tammy; Rebecca A. Braun and her husband, Keith; Timothy A. Cavin; Kimberly D. Campbell and her husband, Leon; and Lynn Y. Cavin; sisters; Peggy Mooney and her husband, Dan; Billie Jo Shelton and her husband, Ralph; and Dorothy Dietmar and her husband, Dan; brothers; Donald Cavin and his wife, Shirley; Douglas Cavin and his wife, Karen; and Wayne Cavin and his wife, Marsha; and grandchildren, Stephanie D’ Spain, Renee Kimbrel, Shay Brown, Thomas Cavin III, Roger Byrd, Michael Campbell, DJ Cavin, Christopher Cavin, Matthew Cavin, Eric Cavin, Courtney Chapelle, Devin Doelling, Kali Doelling, Thomas Keith Braun, JR Fazio, Josh Fazio and Brittney Fazio, as well as by 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cavin was preceded in death by brothers, Mickey Cavin and HL Cavin Jr.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 22, at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera with Bro. Marvin B. Carlton officiating. Interment followed at Bandera cemetery with full military honors.
Bill Wilmoth

Bill Wilmoth, 68, died on Sunday, March 7, at his home in Bandera following an extended illness.
As a child, Bill’s life took him from a poor rural farmhouse in northeast Arkansas to working the hops fields of eastern Washington just before joining the Army in 1958. He served all over the globe including Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Okinawa and many stateside posts, eventually retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1978.
Following his retirement in Olympia,Washington, Bill’s skill and reputation as an honest mechanic eventually allowed him to own his own garage. However, after several heart attacks, he and his wife sold everything so they could travel and spend more time together.
For eight years they traveled around the United States, making and visiting friends between Washington and Texas until they finally settled in Bandera and opened the Wind River Saddle Shop. Bill always said it took him that long to find a job he really liked.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carole; daughter Lori and her husband, Steven, and the couple’s children, Steven Jr., who is serving with the 82nd Airborne, and Tiffany Rose of Austin; son Jeff, a major in the US Air Force, stationed at Randolph Air Force Base; granddaughter Machael Wilmoth of Buffalo, West Virginia; and sisters, Pat Stoner of Gilmer, Ruby Adams of Sugar Creek, Missouri, and Nancy Henderson of Shawnee Mission, Missouri, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Henagar, and son Curtis Dean.
Though we will all miss his smile and laugh, remember he is no longer in pain and still remains in our hearts. Bill’s friends are invited to join the family at a gathering at his home at 2 pm, Sunday, March 21.

Rebecca Sue Harrison Baker
1941-2010
Rebecca Sue Harrison Baker passed away Tuesday, March 9.
She born on February 16, 1941, to Sam G. Harrison and Lena Estelle Huebotter Harrison in Houston, where she was also raised.
She was married
to Gerald Lee Baker, of Bandera and Paige, Texas.
Rebecca graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. A 50-year sister in the Delta Gamma Sorority, she was the major force behind the formation of the Reach to Recovery, benefiting the American Cancer Society. Rebecca was also the founder of the Ride for Research, which also benefited the ACS.
One of her lifelong passions was breeding, riding and showing paint and quarterhorses in local and national competitions. She also loved trail riding with her friends and family. A true Texas cattle rancher, Rebecca and her husband Jerry ran a successful cattle outfit for 39 years.
She was an active member in the Bandera United Methodist Church where she enjoyed the fellowship and company of the “cut-ups.”
After moving to Bandera, Rebecca realized her dream of home design and interior decorating. She was always a lady – poised and graceful with a mischievous twinkle in her eye, a song in her heart and a smile to the world.
Rebecca is survived by her husband, Jerry, of Bandera; brother Sam Harrison Jr. of Houston; Mrs. Ellen White of Chappell Hill; and daughters, Holly Ann Baker of Seligman, Arizona, and Heidi Lynn Wyatt of Pipe Creek, as well as a large family of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services took place at Bandera United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 13, officiated by Mr. Don Giles and Reverend Everett Boyce. Interment followed at the family ranch in Bandera.
