John Robert Beamon
John Robert Beamon, 58, died Sunday, April 18, 1999.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Faith Deliverance Church with Edward Mark officiating. Burial was in Old Seymour Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Mr. Beamon was born September 27, 1940, in Cooper, Texas. He and Brenda Russell were married October 23, 1976. He was a farm laborer and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, James, Christopher and Billy Earl, all of Wichita Falls; three daughters, Vera Nell Hardamon of Seymour; Barbara Lockwood of Dallas and Terry Dockins of Munday, Texas; a brother, Willie of Wichita Falls; nine sisters, Clarice Watson, Alma Sims, Ada Vaughn, Celestine Mark and Sharon Flowers, all of Wichita Falls, Betty Patton of Seymour, Patricia Watson and Bernice Flowers, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Rosa Lee of Mansfield, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
Millard Cates, Jr.
Millard Cates, Jr. 76, of Weatherford, Texas, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at his residence in Weatherford.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 1999, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Weatherford with Rev. Kenneth Watson, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery in Olney, Texas, under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Mr. Cates was born June 5, 1922, in Smith Center, Kansas, to the late Millard and Nellie (Logan) Cates, Sr. He and Lillian Kunkel were married September 3, 1944, in Denver, Colorado. He was a charter member of the Trinity Lutheran Church for 40 years. He retired from General Dynamics after 33 years as a technical buyer and was a member of the Management Club. He was also a farmer. He was a resident of Weatherford, Texas, since 1958, moving from Fort Worth, Texas. He was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Dean Cates in 1950; three brothers, Forest, Glen, and James Cates, and one sister, Sylvia Kusel.
Survivors include his wife: Lillian Cates of Weatherford, Texas; one brother, Dale Cates of Smith Center, Kansas; two sisters, Juanita Palmer of Smith Center, Kansas, Laura Elizabeth Hamilton and her husband, Boyd, of Cawker City, Kansas; two brothers-in-law, Leonard Kunkel and his wife Hilda, of Seymour, Texas, Edgar V. Kunkel and his wife Edalene, of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister-in-law, Lu Kunkel of Louisville, Kentucky; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
Viewing on Saturday will be from 10 a.m. until service time at Trinity Lutheran Church in Weatherford, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Building Fund, 1500 Ball Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
H.P. “Pete” Peterson
H.P. “Pete” Peterson, 74, of Olney, Texas, died Monday, March 22, 1999, in an Olney hospital.
Graveside services were held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 1999, in Megargel Cemetery in Megargel, Texas, with Rev. Al Woodard retired former pastor of Megargel Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Mr. Peterson was born June 3, 1924, in West Frankford, Illinois, to the late Hobart G. and Jewel Effie (McKenzie) Peterson. He and Mary Jo Willis were married November 12, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas. She preceded him in death August 24, 1997. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Megargel. He was in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a retired teacher, coach and farmer. He graduated from Texas Wesleyan College in 1949. He coached and taught school in Megargel from 1949 to 1969. He served as Junior High Principal in Seymour from 1969 to 1976. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association in Olney. He moved to Olney in 1982 after having lived in Megargel since 1949. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Paul Peterson, August 15, 1946 and a grandson, Todd Philipp, May 12, 1996.
Survivors include his daughter: Paula Philipp of Olney; one brother, Robert E. Peterson of Bradford, Illinois; one sister, Hope Manninger of Crockett, Texas; three grandsons, Jeff Philipp, Bret Philipp, and Scott Philipp.

Fidelis J. "Slim" Loran
Fidelis J. "Slim" Loran, 84, of Windthorst, Texas, died at residence on Monday, July 19, 1999.
Rosary was said on Tuesday, July 20, at 7 p.m. at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst. Funeral mass was held Wednesday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Rhineland, Texas, with Father Jeremy Myers officiating. Burial was in Saint Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Munday, Texas, under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home in Munday.
Mr. Loran was born December 14, 1914, in Rhineland. He moved from Rhineland to Windthorst in 1969 and was retired from Windthorst I.S.D. He was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst and a member of Knights of Columbus in Windthorst. He married Agnes Redder on May 30, 1950, in Rhineland.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Joe of Windthorst, Michael of Scotland, Texas, James of Seymour, Texas, John of Windthorst and Anthony of Wichita Falls, Texas; five daughters, Rita L. Mooney of Wichita Falls, Joan Atchley of Blanket Texas, Julia Oechsner of Barnhart, Missouri, Christine Brooking of Wichita Falls and Marquita Brooking of Wichita Falls; one brother, Bro. Eric Loran of Subiaco, Arkansas; five sisters, Sister Andrea Loran of N. Littlerock, Arkansas, Roselia Pokorny of Wichita Falls, Mary Kuehler of Rhineland, Jeanette Zeissel of Rhineland and Monica Myers of Harlingen, Texas; and nineteen grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Michael Loran, James Loran, John Loran, Tony Loran, Ray Mooney, Charles Atchley, Nat Oechsner and Eric Brooking.
Memorials may be made to the Windthorst Library Fund or Kristi Krahl Scholarship Fund in Scotland, Texas.
Cecil Elkins Winegeart
Cecil Elkins Winegeart, age 78, died Thursday, September 2, 1999, in the Seymour Hospital.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 11, at 10 a.m. at Henson Cemetery in Red Springs, Texas, with Reverend Jack Bennett officiating. Services are under the direction of Archer Funeral Home in Seymour, Texas.
Mr. Winegeart was born December 17, 1920, in Wellington, Texas. He lived in Farwell, Texas, for many years where he farmed until his retirement. He moved to Red Springs, Texas, in 1997 where he was a director and helper of the Red Springs Community Center. He was a Baptist and a member of the Woodmen of the World. He and Jeanne Claire Pennington were married March 26, 1994, in Pampa, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Claire of Red Springs; a son, Jerry Winegeart of Denison, Texas; four brothers, Lawrence of Lindale, Texas, Foster of Pampa, Texas, Gene of Kingston, Oklahoma, and Doyle of Edmond, Oklahoma; and two grandchildren, Kayla and Katelyn.
The family requests memorials to Henson Cemetery Association or the Red Springs Community Center.
Ralph Clinton Wright
Ralph Clinton Wright, 88, died Saturday, September 4, 1999, in Seymour, Texas.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 6, at First Christian Church with Kay Pruitt and Helen Roden officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery in Seymour, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Mr. Wright was born May 18, 1911, in Deport, Texas. He moved to Baylor County in 1931. He and Edna Mae Hennis were married October 14, 1931, in Frederick, Oklahoma. She died February 21, 1999. He worked in paving and road construction. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Clinton of Bridgeport, Texas; three daughters, Oleta Trussell of Rhome, Texas, and Jackie Fay Gleghorn and Billie Jo Stevens, both of Seymour; a sister, Annie Mae King of Munday, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Brenda Norville
Brenda Norville, International Mission Board (IMB) communications missionary for churches in the Caribbean, died February 15, 1999, at her home in Cooper City, Florida, after a long battle with brain cancer.
Norville, from Munday, Texas, edited Sunday School lessons for older children in the English-language churches of the Caribbean Basin. She and her husband, Buddy, have been assigned to the Caribbean Christian Publications Centre in Hollywood, Florida, since 1989.
The Norvilles were first appointed as missionaries to the Ivory Coast in 1974. They resigned in 1978 and were reappointed to Liberia in 1979. They transferred to El Paso, Texas, Baptist Publications in 1988 and moved to the Hollywood area in 1989 when the Caribbean publication division changed from Texas to Florida.
Brenda had been teaching English for speakers of other languages for about ten years.
Norville also showed her missionary spirit when Hurricane Andrew devastated south Florida. The Norvilles traveled to First Baptist Church, Perrine, to help with relief efforts by helping set up a mobile kitchen, distribute donations and provide a neighborhood grocery store for hurricane victims.
Born in Knox City, Texas, Norville attended several universities in Texas and Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth. Even during the early stages of her illness, Norville did not stop studying. She earned a bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1996.
For about the past three years, the Norvilles have been members of First Baptist Church, Pembroke Pines, Florida. Her memorial service was held there on February 17. Paying tribute to her life and ministry were Ron Wilson, International Mission Board regional leader for the Caribbean Basin; Carter Davis, Caribbean Basin administrative associate; and Mickey Searcy, director of the Caribbean media centre.
Guy Melton, the Norville's pastor, spoke on the two Bible passages Brenda had chosen for her memorial service: Isaiah 40: 27-31 and Philippians 2:1-11.
Brenda is survived by her husband; two sons, Scott of Fort Worth, Texas, and Todd of New York City; her mother, Nora (Mrs. Jack) Kennedy of Cisco, Texas; and one sister, Elaine (Mrs. Gary) Key of Spur, Texas.
