Kyle Belmont Ritchie
Kyle Belmont Ritchie, 89, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, in Wichita Falls.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at First Baptist Church with Dale Turner officiating. Burial was in Vera Cemetery in Vera, Texas, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Mr. Ritchie was born March 14, 1909. He and Nina Hardin were married November 20, 1927, in Knox County, Texas. She died October 29, 1995. He was a retired farmer and lived in the Vera community until 1988, when he moved to Idalou. He moved to Wichita Falls on June 5, 1997. He was a Primitive Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Wannell Ray of Amarillo, Texas, and Melba Parham of Vera; two sons, Guindell of Wichita Falls and G.L. of Lubbock, Texas; a sister, Susie Thurmond of Garland, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Jerry F. Miller
Jerry F. Miller, 76, of Megargel, Texas, died Monday, March 8, 1999, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Rosary was said at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, with Clara Miller officiating. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, March 10, at St. Theresa Catholic Church of Olney with the Reverend Raymund Mullan, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Megargel Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Mr. Miller was born August 25, 1922, in Weatherford, Texas. He was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of the St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church and was attending St. Theresa Catholic Church in Olney. He served in the Army during World War II. He served in the American Theater Campaign and received the purple heart and three bronze stars. He received victory medals in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He was a member of the KJTZ, the Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Seymour, Texas. He was a resident of Megargel most of his life.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry W. III, Richard A. and Michael F., all of Junction, Texas; two daughters, Lenora of Brownwood, Texas, and Camela Mendez of Graham, Texas; two brothers, Richard S. of Ennis, Texas, and Henry A. of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Helen Shaffer of Wichita Falls, and Agnes Gentry and Rosie Kulhanek, both of Megargel; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation.
Lois Hammett Fancher
Lois Hammett Fancher, 79, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died March 10, 1999, at United Regional Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at Lunn's Colonial Chapel with Minister Jimmie C. Smith of Harrison, Arkansas, officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Fancher was born September 16, 1919, in Wellington, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of Crestview Church of Christ. She had been a resident of Wichita Falls for 60 years. She was married to Ervin Andrew Fancher until his death in 1985.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Crampton and Janie Martin, both of Holliday, Texas, and Betty Shelton of Wichita Falls; two brothers, Charles Hammett of Wichita Falls and J.T. Hammett of Bowie, Texas; one sister, Sarah Glaze of Wichita Falls; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Melvin Leo Bachman
Melvin Leo Bachman, 70, of Amarillo, died Sunday, February 21, 1999.
Services were held at St. Stephen United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry C. Lowe and Dr. Jim W. Smith officiating. The family had private burial services in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St.
Mr. Bachman was born in Meade County, Kansas and went to schools in Sherman County. He was an Army veteran who served in Korea and Japan. He spent most of his life on ranches in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado and then settled in Dalhart.
Mr. Bachman was a rancher and horse trainer. He retired as assistant feed mill manager from Coronado Feeders in Dalhart. He was active with the Dallam County 4-H Equestrian Boys and Girls Club.
In 1994, Mr. Bachman moved to Amarillo. He was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church.
He married Joy Chandler Elliott in 1977, daughter of Earl and Thelma Chandler. Mrs. Bachman's sister, Earldene Chandler, resides in Westview Care Center in Seymour.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark Elliott of Fritch; four daughters, Roberta Hollers of Dalhart and Emma Briggs, Kim Butler and Lori Walterscheid, all of Amarillo; two brothers, Alvin Bachman of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Richard Bachman of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Dorothy Foster of Amarillo and Norma James of Plains, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Etta Letha (Bobbie) Moore Chamberlain
Bobbie, age 86, died Sunday, March 7, 1999 in a Wichita Falls, Texas Hospital.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, 1999 at the Church of Christ in Seymour, Texas. Burial was in the Goree Cemetery under the direction of McCauley/Smith Funeral Home, Munday, Texas.
Bobbie was born August 29, 1912 in Desdemona, Texas. She and Cecil Roy Chamberlain were married on April 10, 1932. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1951. She and Willie Horace Oneal were married on January 1, 1961. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1984.
Bobbie served as assistant Postmaster and acting Postmaster at Goree, Texas in the 1950's. During her long life she lived in several Texas towns and after retirement owned a home in Seymour, Texas for twenty years, moving to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1997. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend of people. She had a deep rooted faith and trust in God and was active in the Church of Christ. Many friends and relatives miss her.
Etta Letha (Bobbie) Moore was the ninth of eleven children born to William Leander Moore and Lizabeth Pearl Thornton Moore.
Preceded in death by: her father, W.L. Moore and mother, Lizabeth Pearl Moore; brothers, Nealie, Thomas Leroy (Roy), William Albert (Jack); sisters, Katie Lillian Moore, Mary Lula Loving, Lola Lavera Perdue; son, Kenneth Eugene Chamberlain; Stepson Horace Wayne Oneal.
She is survived by: sons, Alton Keith and Nancy Chamberlain of Henrietta, Texas, Gaylon Cooper and Belva Chamberlain of Halstead, Kansas; brothers, Eldon Troy (Johnny) and Marion Estle (Billy); sisters, Essie May Moore and Alma V. Claburn; step-daughters Elaine and Jack Cooper of Pampa, Texas, June and Pete Rowan of Pampa, Texas; step-daughter-in-law, Lydia Edmondson of Wichita Falls, Texas; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson; nine step grandchildren; seventeen step great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Billy Gene Spikes
Billy Gene Spikes, 73, of Benjamin, Texas, died Sunday, February 28, 1999.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at First Christian Church of Benjamin with Dennis Duke officiating. Burial was in Benjamin Cemetery under the direction of Mansell-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Spikes was born February 10, 1926, in Loraine, Texas. He and Dorothy Faye Campbell were married August 5, 1949, in Odessa, Texas. He was a cowboy and rancher and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Penny Eaton of Nash, Texas; three sons, Rusty of Wichita Falls, Ty of Holcomb, Kansas, and Guy of Seymour, Texas; a sister, Louise George of Wichita Falls; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Mildred Lillian Thomas
Mildred Lillian Thomas, 81, of Oklahoma City passed away on February 21, 1999.
She was born on October 7, 1917 to W.C. and Virgie Snyder of Seymour, Texas. Mildred married the love of her life, J.D. Thomas in May of 1938. Mildred was a beautician for 20 years in Seymour, Oklahoma City, and Bethany, Oklahoma. She is remembered as a wonderful Christian, loving mother, grandmother, and friend to all. Her life was devoted to her family and her church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Thomas, her parents, W.C and Vergie Snyder, her sister, Tillie Richardson, and brother, Troy Snyder.
She is survived by two sons, Paul Thomas of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and David Thomas and his wife, Virginia of Moore, Oklahoma; a daughter, Carol Hoefar and husband Gary of Edmond, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Troy L. Thomas, Carl J. Hoefar, Della G. Green, Donna M Benn, and Kimberly G. Davison; and 4 great-grandchildren. She was a member of Edmond Road Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Services were held at 2 p.m. February 24, 1999 at Edmond Road Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was laid to rest next to her husband in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Steven Ray Stiver
Steven Ray Stiver, age 49, of Arlington, Texas, died Friday, September 1, 2000, in his home.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, at the Seymour Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Johnny Bullard, pastor of the Northeast Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in the Seymour Catholic Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #7871. Services were under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Stiver was born July 13, 1951, in Amherst, Texas. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1969. He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972, being stationed in Korea and Germany. He obtained an Associate Degree in Computer Programming from Cooke County Junior College in Gainesville, Texas. He had been employed by Harris Methodist Hospital of Fort Worth for the past 20 years, as a Systems Programmer Tech III in the Information Technology Department.
Survivors include his mother, Jerry Stiver, of Seymour, Texas; his son, James, of Atlanta, Georgia; two brothers, Tom Stiver of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Bill Stiver of Junction, Texas.
Pallbearers were his co-workers from Harris Hospital.
