Ota Inez Pruett
Ota Inez Pruett, age 90, of Fairfield, Texas formerly of Seymour, passed away Sunday, December 20, 1998 in a Palestine, Texas hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 23, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at the Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield, Texas with Rev. Johnny Dammon officiating. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 1998 at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas with Joe Chase officiating.
Mrs. Pruett was born August 27, 1908 in Ryan, Oklahoma. She moved with her family to East Texas and then to Seymour in 1920. She married Alma Adlai Pruett March 23, 1924 in Seymour. They moved to Dallas in 1932 where Mr. Pruett worked for Borden's Milk Co. until his retirement in 1964. They returned to Seymour in 1967 where they were faithful members of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Pruett passed away February 9, 1992.
Mrs. Pruett is survived by two daughters, Lois Loyd of Fairfield and Helen Pruett of Mesquite; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and thirteen great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Pruett was preceded in death by two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Ota Inez Wages Pruett
Ota Inez Wages Pruett, born August 27, 1908, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to John Clifton Wages and Maggie Lee Foster Wages, passed away on December 20, 1998, in Memorial Mother Frances Hospital in Palestine, Texas, at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 23 days.
Services were conducted December 23 by Dr. Johnny Dammon at Capps Memorial Chapel. Final resting place was Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas, on December 26, 1998. Conducted by a great-grandson-in-law Joe Chase.
On March 23, 1924, in Seymour, she married Alma Adlai Pruett. As a young couple they farmed, later in 1932 moved to Dallas where in 1965 Adlai retired from Borden Dairy. In 1967, they moved back to Seymour where he passed away in February 1992. Due to ill health on November 1, 1998, Inez moved to Fairfield, Texas.
They were members of the First Baptist Church of Seymour until she moved her membership to the First Baptist Church of Fairfield.
She leaves two daughters: Lois Loyd of Fairfield, Texas, and Helen Pruett, formerly of Seymour, now of Mesquite, Texas; five grandchildren: Diane Mason, Daniel Loyd, Les Akens, Cindy Willis and Mary Stevenson, Deceased: Bill and Phillip Akens; ten great-grandchildren: Daniel Roberts, Colleen McNaughton, Sharon Beantley, Jamie Mason, Jessia Mason, Renee Akens, James Willis, Cheryl Chase, Amy Stevenson and Andy Stevenson, Deceased: April Akens; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Glenn Tilson and Maxine Vick of Terrell, Texas; one brother, Joe Wages of Willis Point, Texas; and two brothers, Deceased, Hobert and Dale Wages. She leaves a host of loved ones and old and dear friends plus a host of new friends since her move to Fairfield.
She is greatly missed by her family.
Thelma Louise Hall
Thelma Louise Hall, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all, passed away Friday, November 20th, 1998. A celebration of Thelma's life was held at Calvary Bible Church, 4850 Manor, Bakersfield, CA.
Born June 28th, 1917 in Vera, Texas, she was married to Rev. Thomas W. Hall for 65 years. As Pentecostal Church of God ministers, they served as pastors at many locations including Earlimart, CA (1938-1940), McFarland, CA (1942-1953), and Bakersfield, CA (1953-1960).
Thelma, or "Sister Hall", touched a multitude of lives in her 81 years. A retired Licensed Vocational Nurse, she was always caring for others. She enjoyed her "job" as an active volunteer at the Cancer Society's Discovery Shop. High spirited and full of life, she enjoyed sewing, quilting and many creative activities, as well as her many friends who will miss her loving touch, sound advice, words of encouragement and countless nuggets of wisdom.
Thelma is survived by her husband, Rev. Thomas W. Hall; siblings J.T. Albright of Porterville, CA and Elaine Moffett of Orofino, ID; sons Wonnie Eugene and wife Jan-Marie of Boise, ID and Donald R. and wife Phyllis of Morro Bay, CA; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Thelma was preceded in death by a brother, Horace, who died in WWII, Horace's son, her mother, Nell Boone Albright and her father, Leslie Albright.
Her husband, Rev. Thomas (Buster) Hall and she lived in Seymour and started a church, Church of God. In a very short time it grew to 100 members.
Roland Craven Webb
Roland Craven Webb, born September 19, 1918 in Waco, Texas and died December 18, 1998. He attended Terrell Preparatory School and Southern Methodist University. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Hella Temple Shrine and served with the 106th Infantry Division in the European Theater during World War II. Mr. Webb was active in the family restaurant business, until his retirement in 1983. Preceded in death by his son, Lyn B. Webb. He is survived by his wife, Sue Kate Irby Webb; daughter, Gail Webb Natale; grandsons, Lyn Kelly and his wife, Kalee and Owen Kelly and his wife, Mandy; great-granddaughter, Kalyn Kelly; sister, Kay Webb Roberts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother, John Webb of Sun City, Arizona; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, December 21, 1998 at Restland Wildwood Chapel, with Rev. Kathleen Baskin officiating.
Bedrich August Peters
Bedrich August "Fred" Peters, 87, of Seymour died Monday, December 14, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Rosary was said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 17, at Seymour Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday morning, December 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Seymour with the Reverend Richard Eldredge officiating. Burial was in Seymour Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Peters was born April 11, 1911, in Baylor County, Texas. He and Christine Marak were married February 24, 1936, in Bomarton, Texas. She died August 16, 1992. He moved to Cache Creek community in 1915. He was a farmer and a school bus driver for Seymour I.S.D. for 20 years. He retired in 1976. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the K.J.T. Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. A son, Fred Peters, Jr., died August 9, 1973.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia John of Brownsville, Texas, Jeanette Campbell of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Pamela Kelley of Mesquite, Texas; a son, Raymond of Keller, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Truman Bryan Quillin, Sr.
Truman Bryan Quillin, Sr., age 74 of Seymour, Texas, passed away on Monday, December 14, 1998. He was born on June 18, 1924, to Paul Bryan and Emma Merphia Quillin in Seymour. He lived a very full and meaningful life.
Truman served his country in the United States Navy in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. After the war, he settled with his family in Vernon, Texas, where he joined the staff of the Vernon Daily Record as an advertising salesman in 1947. In 1952, he became the business manager, and he was eventually named publisher of the Vernon Daily Record in 1960. He served in this capacity fro 1960-1976.
In his most productive years, Truman was active in community affairs. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Wilbarger County Hospital District and the construction of Wilbarger General Hospital, serving the hospital board as chairman during the hospital's planning, construction and initial operational stages.
Along the other community and area leaders, he secured a location for the Vernon MH-MR Center. He also was active in the industrial development of the community helping to locate Stein, Hall and Company's guar processing plant in Vernon. For a period of time, he served as chairman of the Vernon Industrial Foundation. He also served on the Chamber of Commerce Committee that secured the reconstruction of the Wilbarger County Airport.
Truman was a third degree Mason and a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Vernon. He was also active in the Optimist Club.
He and his son established a Golden Fried Chicken, later to become Chicken Express, in Vernon and Seymour.
He married Floy Beth (Binker) Cooper on November 24, 1991, in Seymour, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Floy Beth (Binker) of Seymour; a son, Truman Bryan Quillin, Jr. and wife, Sherian, of Vernon; two daughters, Paula Ford and husband, Bill, of Abilene, and Nancy Long and husband, Derek, of Austin; a sister, Francelle Emmons of Crowley, Texas; and four grandchildren, Shawn, Kelly and Hudson Quillin, and Kristen Ford.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 1998, at Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon, Texas, with Reverend Brad Enloe, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Seymour, officiating. Interment will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Golden Wings Hospice Foundation of Vernon, Texas.
James Michael Conner
James Michael Conner, 30, died Saturday, December 12, 1998, in his residence in Wichita Falls.
Christian wake services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Reverend Chris Davis, chaplain of Notre Dame Catholic School, officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park.
Mr. Conner was born September 23, 1968, in Hereford, Texas. He lived in Arlington for 15 years, moving from Wichita Falls. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Survivors include his parents, James and Martha of Wichita Falls; his maternal grandmother, Mary Pryor of Wichita Falls; his paternal grandparents, J.W. and Ella Conner of Seymour, Texas; a brother, David C. of Wichita Falls; and a sister, Kristen L. of Wichita Falls.
Memorials may be made to the Association for Retarded Citizens of Wichita County.
Joann Harvey
Joann Harvey, 53, died Saturday, December 5, 1998.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Smith and the Rev. Tony McGhee officiating. Burial was in Old Seymour Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harvey was born February 12, 1945, in Weinert, Texas. She and Teddy Harvey were married February 27, 1961. She moved to Seymour in 1957, was a homemaker and a baby sitter, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; mother, Lucy Lucille Burkett of Van Buren, Arkansas; five daughters, Rita Douglas of Spur, Texas, Nancy Jiminez, Laura Maxwell, Melissa Hutchinson and Carmen Renae Harvey, all of Seymour; three sons, Wayne Burkett, Eddie Harvey and Chase Harvey, all of Seymour; five sisters, Irene Walker of Plainview, Texas, Billie Hill of Garland, Texas, Pam Goforth of Chicago, Ill., Vickie Been of Richardson, Texas, and Clara Dodson of Van Buren; four brothers, Clarence Burkett of Deepwater, Mo., Willie Burkett of Stillwater, OK, and Charles Ray Burkett and David Burkett, both Van Buren; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
