ARLINGTON -- Jake Morris Hayley, 60, of Paradise passed away Thursday, July 13, 2000 in Arlington, of lung, brain and bone cancers..
Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Moore Funeral Home. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Moore Funeral Home. Inurnment: Wilson Prairie Cemetery in Paradise at a later date.
Memorials: Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department or Home Health Care of Wise County.
Jake Morris Hayley was born Sept. 12, 1939, in Seymour. He was a longtime resident of the Arlington and Grand Prairie areas. He worked for Texstar Plastics for over 27 years and for Bell Helicopter for six years.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Jake and Zona Shaw Hayley and Morris and Grace Avary Gilbert.parents, Ollie Gilbert King and Jasper Eric Hayley.
Survivors: Wife of 42 years, Ann Hayley of Paradise; son, James Hayley and Mary of Paradise; daughters, Jamie Burns and husband, Bruce, of Bedford, Janet McCoy and husband, Mitchell, of Arlington; brothers, Cliff Hayley and wife, Delores, of Bedford, Dan Hayley and wife, Lorene, of Winnesboro; sisters, Mary Beth Wines and husband, Donnie, of Lindale, Carol Butler and husband, Dick, of Arlington; stepsisters, Syble Wright and husband, John, of Arlington and Peggy Garvin and husband, Lewis, of Gilmer; stepfather, Archie King and wife, Bonnie, of Arlington; and grandchildren, Jason, Camron and Jamie Taylor, Kimberly Martin and Marissa, Krystal, Adrian and Joey.
Esther Porter
was born in Powell, Texas, on May 24, 1913, the youngest child of the late Robert and Nellie Tillies.
In 1949, Esther moved to Seymour with the Kitts family. She was housekeeper and friend to some of Seymour’s most prominent families. Working for many organizations such as Seymour Day Care Center, she retired from Meals on Wheels.
She united with Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she was president of the choir. Later on, she attended Faith Deliverance Church of God in Christ with her daughter, Gladys Willis.
One thing is certain - everyone that kew Esther knew she always had a smile and a contagious laugh that will be missed by all.
On May 24, 2000, Esther’s 87th birthday, she went to join the loved ones she had lost. Proceding her in death were one son, Robert Tillis; a grandson, Moses A. Brown; a granddaughter, Chastity D. Bradley; 3 sisters, 4 brothers and many more loved ones.
She leaves to mourn her passing, a son, Ellis Dan Brown of Los Angeles, California; three daughters, Audrey Porter, Seymour, Ed and Gladys Porter Willis of Seymour, and Gracie Porter and Gary Stephenson of Sweetwater, Texas; Toby Brown, a son-in-law of 30 years; two sisters, Roise McDade and Bessie Lee Sample of Corsicana, Texas; 13 Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great-Grandchild, 2 Nephews, 1 Niece and 9 Cousin.
Lenora O. Fojtik
Lenora O. Fojtik, age 94, of Seymour, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2000, in the Hospice of Wichita Falls. Christian wake services were held at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2000, at the Seymour Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Richard Eldredge officiating. Interment was in the Seymour Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fojtik was born February 6, 1916, in Snook, Texas. She and Adolph Joseph Fojtik were married February 11, 1929, in Caldwell, Texas. He died August 31, 1976. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A son, Billy Joe Fojtik, preceded her in death on September 19, 1991.
She is survived by two sisters, Libby Nedbalek of Rockdale, Texas, and Reynalda Janac of Bryan, Texas.
Pallbearers were James Styles, Gary Wright, Melvin Motl, Alvin Jungman, Jerry Kuehler, and Danny Lane.
Marion “Billy” Moore
Marion “Billy” Moore, 89, of Goree, Texas, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Knox City, Texas.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 15th, 2000, at Goree Church of Christ with Greg Melton officiating. Burial was in Goree Cemetery under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Moore was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Merle; a daughter, Marion Cunningham of Goree; a son, Dolan of Goree; two sisters, Essie Mae of Seymour and Alma Claburn of Wichita Falls; a brother, Johnny of Goree; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Lois Aleitha Hughes Sullins
Lois Aleitha Hughes Sullins, 94, died February 23, 2000, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
A long-time resident of Seymour, Mrs. Sullins was born in Vera, Texas, on March 6, 1905, the third child of Tennie and Raleigh Hughes. Her sister, Trudy Russell, and her brother, Byron Hughes, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sullins married Hoyle Aaron Sullins on April 20, 1933. He died on September 20, 1961. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen Joy and Rea Carter of Seymour; three granddaughters, Cecila Hardin of McKinney, Camille Baker of Seymour, Stephanie McMullen of Waco; one grandson, Lindley Carter of Wichita Falls; nine great-grandchildren, Ty and Jacob Hardin, Paige and Thomas Baker, Seth, Samantha and Brynne Carter, Jackson and Lydia McMullen; one niece, Aleitha Beck of Vera; two nephews, Maurice Hughes of Eunice, New Mexico, and Gerald Russell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and grandnieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held February 25, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church of Seymour, Reverend Larry Crumpton officiating. Mrs. Sullins' grandniece, Challa Goedeke of Lubbock, Texas, and cousins, Ronnie Reeves of Seymour and Thelma Lee Coulston of Vera, provided special music, including her favorite hymns "Ivory Palaces", "Evening Prayer" and "I Surrender All". Pallbearers were her grandson, Lindley Carter, grandsons-in-law Tony Hardin, John Baker and Vic McMullen, nephew Gerald Russell and grandnephew, Russell Beck. Interment was at the Vera Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sullins was a farmer and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Seymour where she taught Sunday school and belonged to the Escalator Class. She was a graduate of the University of North Texas and a schoolteacher for 23 years in Knox and Baylor Counties, including Vera and Red Springs.
A recipient of lifetime memberships in the Baylor County American Heart Association and Baylor County Hospital Authority Pink Ladies Auxiliary, she also was a member of the Pierian Club, Methodist Women, Eastern Star and the Retired Teachers Association.
Martha E. Gentry
Martha E. Gentry, 80, our precious mother and mama left us to meet her Lord on Saturday, March 11, 2000, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She will be missed so much by her family and friends. Mother was loved by so many.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, March 13, 2000, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Crestview. Graveside services were conducted on Wednesday, March 15, 2000, in the Lovington City Cemetery in Lovington, New Mexico.
A daughter of the late Enoch and Emma Glaze, she was born March 28, 1919, in Tuscola, Texas. She married Boucher Gentry on September 22, 1947, in Odessa, Texas, and they resided in Eunice until 1965, when Mobil Oil transferred Boucher to Lovington, New Mexico. A member of the Church of Christ, she dearly loved her family and absolutely adored her little dog, "Little Bit".
Preceded in death by her husband on May 13, 1995; her grandson, Blake on April 22, 1975; and her granddaughter, Jackie Jones on March 17, 1978, she is survived by her children, Nell Marler, Jerry and Sue Dodd, Randy and Judy Maples and Sharon and Mike Gibson; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Winifred Farris, Myrtle and Ruel Perkins and Hazel and Gene Lassiter; also numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Robby Maples, Donny Maples, Tim Maples, Darin Doss, Charles Carson and Vern Landavazo.

Roy Elbert Thorn, Sr.
Roy Elbert Thorn, Sr., 65, of Boyd, Texas, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at Denton Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. in Seymour, Texas, at Woodmen of the World Cemetery with Reverend Scott Moore officiating.
Mr. Thorn was born August 10, 1934, in Seymour to Johnny Thorn and Cynthia Elam Thorn. He and had lived in Boyd for 24 years and operated Wild Fire Salvage. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Amber Thorn.
Survivors include two sons, Roy E. Thorn, Jr. and Randy L. Thorn; three stepsons, Jimmy, Kenneth and Charlie Grimsley; five daughters, Rhonda Leatherwood, Ranee Schwandt, Rhenda Ragan, Robbie Moss and Reggie VanOrsow; three brothers, J.D., Wesley and Jerry Thorn; a sister, Janelle Sturgeon of Seymour; thirty-five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Brandon Alls, Poose Alls, Ernie Wilson, Aaron Leatherwood, Phillip Urango and Brian Dowell.
Kenneth Charles Evans
Kenneth Charles Evans, 71, of Haltom City, Texas, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, in his home.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2000, in Roundtimber Cemetery with Reverend Marvin Griffin officiating.
Mr. Evans was born May 16, 1928, in Burkburnett, Texas. He served in the Air Force during World War II. He was married to Theda Davis in Wichita Falls, Texas, where they lived until 1978 when they moved to Haltom City. He was a self-employed subcontractor of floor covering installation. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Olney, Texas.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Rocky; two grandchildren, Stacey and Nicole of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; a godson, Bryan Fergurson of Wichita Falls; a brother, George Evans of Wichita Falls; and two sisters, Frances Armstrong and Estelle Tedford, both of Wichita Falls.
