Lotella Cox
Lotella Cox, 82, of Abilene and formerly of Seymour, Texas, died Friday, December 21, 2001, at a local medical center.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Church of Christ with David Wray and John Risse officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood Memorial Park directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cox was born on November 20, 1919, in Italy, Texas, and attended public schools and graduated from high school in Seymour. In 1939, she moved from Seymour to Abilene where she and her husband owned both Abilene Kindergarten and Dyess Kindergarten for twenty years. She worked at Abilene State School as Librarian for five years, and also was a real estate owner.
Mrs. Cox was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She left a great legacy of caring for others. Though she was a shrewd businesswoman, she was best known for the way she cared for others, always looking after those with special needs and the elderly.
She married Foster Cox in Abilene on December 23, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Cox was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.
Mrs. Cox was also predeceased by a son, Gary Lynn Cox; her parents, Whit and Iva Daniel Eddlemon; and a sister, Shella Eddlemon.
Survivors include a son, Keith Cox and wife, Donna, of Titusville, FL; two daughters, Paula Fry and husband, Mark, of El Paso, and Janet Ardoyno and husband David, of Abilene; a sister, Clemmie Lucas of Tecumseh, OK; seven grandchildren, Dedra Baca, Marla Cox, Gavin Lynn Cox, Ginger Hafer, Justin Ardoyno, Jonathan Ardoyno, and Emily Ardoyno; and two great-grandchildren, Mitchell Hafer and Garrison Cox. She was a special friend and “foster mother” to James and Betty Slaughter.
Lloyd Gilbert
Lloyd Gilbert, age 79, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2001, in Seymour. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church in Seymour, with Reverend Larry Crumpton, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Henson Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Gilbert was born October 8, 1922, in Seymour, Texas, to Robert Morris and Grace Avery Gilbert. He had been a truck driver for Ayers Oil Company in Holliday, Texas, and had also worked at the Seymour Steam Laundry and the Seymour Hospital. He married Betty Rodgers on October 27, 1990, in Seymour, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Seymour, Texas; by one son, Mike Gilbert of Graham, Texas; by one daughter, Cindy Pope of Seymour, Texas; by one sister, Ann Elliott of Seymour, Texas; by one brother, Bruce Gilbert of La Jolia Beach, California; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by one daughter, Janice Shuts; by four sisters, Morris Sue Price, Ollie King, Grace Allen and Melba Gillman; and by two brothers, Everett Gilbert and Ray Gilbert.
Gregorio Aranda, Jr.
Gregorio Aranda, Jr. age 35, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001, in Seymour. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2001, at the Vera, Texas, Cemetery with Reverend Gilbert Rodriguez officiating, under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Aranda was born April 19, 1966, in Pearsall, Texas, the son of Gregorio Aranda and Alvina Frausto. He worked for Hrncirik Lawn Care Service. He was a member of the New Covenant Church.
He is survived by his mother Alvina Leal of Sulphur Springs, Texas; by three daughters, Valerie Aranda and Lisa Aranda of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Rosalinda Aranda of Sulphur Springs, Texas; by one son, Emillio Aranda of Sulphur Springs, Texas; by five sisters, Martha Luna of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Aurora Swindell of Wichita Falls, Texas and Yolanda Rios, Isabel Aranda and Juanita Aranda, all of Pearsall, Texas; by one brother, David Aranda of Pearsall, Texas; and by one grandson, Anthony Aranda of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Clifford Lee Wisenbaker
Clifford Lee Wisenbaker passed away in Grand Prairie, Texas on July 5, 2001. C.L. was born in Tyler, Texas on July 31, 1912 to Leonard and Dellie Wisenbaker. He married Ella Ree Carter in Hugo, Oklahoma on June 30, 1934 following a six day courtship. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1999. He is at peace now, he “got his woman back.”
He had spent the last few months in Grand Prairie trying to recover from complications of a pedestrian/auto accident on December 19, 2000. He passed away only a few feet from where his beloved wife had died.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Dean Glasco and son-in-law Lee Glasco, Sr. of Grand Prairie, Texas, daughter Barbara Jeanne Ezzell and son-in-law James Charles Ezzell of Seymour, Texas, brother C.A. Wisenbaker of Sulphur Springs, two sisters, Abby Rucker and Zelma Miller of Houston, four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. One granddaughter, Leanna Glasco also preceded him in death.
When Clifford and Ella Ree moved their family to Sulphur Springs in 1943 from Houston, Texas, he was concerned because there was not a local Assemby of God Church. Being a man of action, he talked with Jimmie D. Spence about purchasing land for a church. After reaching an agreement with both Mr. Spence and the Assemblies of God, C.L. made the initial down payment for the property at 434 E. Jefferson Street where the 1st Assembly of God Church in Sulphur Springs is now located.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at Lone Oak Assembly of God Church in Lone Oak, Texas with Reverend Sam Calk and Reverend O.J. Andrews officiating. He was buried next to his wife in Bascom Cemetery in Tyler.
Pallbearers were his nephews Fred Wisenbaker, David Wisenbaker, Daniel Wisenbaker, Donnie Wisenbaker, and grandson James Clifford Ezzell and great-grandson, Nicholas Ezzell.
Jayten Glen Hudson
Jayten Glen Hudson, infant son of Jay and Betty Hudson, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at Wichita Falls, Texas.
Graveside services were held Friday, July 6, 2001 at the Round Timber Cemetery, Round Timber, Texas officiated by Reverend Richard Eldredge. Services were under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Survivors include: parents, Jay and Betty Hudson of Seymour, Texas; one brother, Jayce Macain Hudson of Seymour, Texas; grandparents, Billy Mac & Janie Howe and Don & Sheryl Hudson all of Seymour, Texas and Nancy & Lane Davis of Knox City, Texas; great-grandparents, Dorothy Howe of Round Timber, Texas and Theresia Sykora of Spring Creek, Texas.
Walter Edward Cooper
Walter Edward Cooper, age 88, of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001 at the Seymour Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with A.B. Martin officiating. Interment was in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Cooper was born December 23, 1912 in Olney, Texas. He graduated from Baird, Texas, High School, and attended McMurry College. He was employed by Lone Star Gas Company and worked in their Knox City and Seymour Offices as assistant manager. On August 13, 1938, He married Wanda Jones in Seymour, Texas. She preceded him in death on July 22, 1999. During World War II, He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees at Guadalcanal and the Admirality Islands. After discharge from the Navy, Cooper was employed by Shell Oil Company and worked in the Odessa area until 1957, when he became the owner of the White’s Auto Store in Aransas Pass, Texas. He owned and operated this store for 30 years. He was a director in the First National Bank of Aransas Pass, and Amvestors Financial Corporation of Topeka, Kansas.
Mr. Cooper was a member of the Christian Church, and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is dearly loved and will be missed.
He is survived by his brother, Donald E. Cooper of Midland, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Catherine Hayley
Catherine Hayley, 92, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, July 10, 2001, of Weather-ford, Texas.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 13, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the Normandale Baptist Church in White Settlement, where she was a member since 1978, officiated by Brother Mike Tullos and assisted by Brother Warren Osburn of First Baptist Church of Millsap, followed by a traditional Eastern Star services with a graveside service in Seymour, Texas at 4:00 p.m. officiated by Brother Warren Osburn at the Masonic Cemetery. Grandson were the pallbearers.
Catherine was born May 28, 1909, to James S. and Salley Gore in Seaborn, Texas. On April 27, 1930, she and John Rufus Hayley married in Baylor County. She lived in Seymour until July 1978 when she and John moved to White Settlement, Texas, a suburb of Fort Worth, to be closer to Peggy and John Ed, and Sylvia who also lived there. In 1998, due to failing health she moved to Weatherford nursing homes. She had a full life with many accomplishments. While in Seymour, she was secretary to superintendent of schools for 23 years. After retiring from the school she was a bookkeeper at the local nursing home for four years where her mother was a resident until her death. John died on August 10, 1987, one month before his 83rd birthday. She was a church pianist for both the Calvary Baptist and the Northeast Mission churches for several years and helped John at night in building the Northeast Mission. She was Sunday school teacher and G.A. leader at Calvary. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star for 51 years and attended White Settlement Chapter No. 1053 where she became pianist and was district pianist for two years. She loved to read, crochet and embroider as well as play the piano, all of which she had to give up due to a stroke in 1998.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; a sister, Novena Shawver Richmond; and granddaughter, Mary Kay Hayley.
She is survived by her five children: Glen Hayley and wife, Sue, of Rochester, Peggy Massie and husband, Kenneth, of Millsap, John Ed Hayley and wife, Daisy, of Big Wells, Sylvia Patterson and husband, Buddy, of Granbury, and Jerry Hayley and wife, Billie, of Houston; grandsons, John Ray Hayley, Wesley Glenn Hayley, Ray Massie, John Ed Hayley Jr., Wesley Don Hayley, Eddy Patterson, Waymon Patterson, Jay Hayley and Jared Hayley; granddaughters, Mylinda Hayley Magee, Mylana Hayley Frontz, Cathy Massie Smith, Sharon Massie Knight, Jerrie Hayley Anderson, and Barbee Patterson Jaynes; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; four step great-granddaughters; sister, Julia Richmond; brother-in-law, Wesley Hayley; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hayley and Oleta Hayley; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Paul Clayton Buck
Paul Clayton Buck, age 72, passed away Monday, July 16, 2001 at Vernon, Texas.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at 7 p.m. officiated by Dannie Gwinn, Pastor of New Covenant Church. Burial was at Masonic Cemetery in Seymour under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Survivors include several cousins.
Bergen Elmer Roe
Bergen Elmer Roe, age 80, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at his home in Durango, Colorado.
Graveside services were held Friday, July 13, 2001 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Mr. Roe was born in Seymour on July 2, 1921. After graduating from Seymour High School in 1939 he joined the Navy and served until November 1945. While serving in the Navy he attended Hospital Corps School in San Diego, California and was stationed in Pearl Harbor and the South Pacific aboard the USS Gridley and the USS Holland. He married Evelyn McLarty on January 6, 1943 in Seymour, Texas. They moved to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1951 where he worked for Vought Industries until he retired in 1984. In April 2001 he and Evelyn moved to Durango, Colorado.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Durango; a son, Delbert and daughter-in-law Carolyn of Whitewright, Texas; and a daughter, and son-in-law Mary and Guy Orbison of Durango; five grandchildren, and his sister, Naomi Chilton of Grand Prairie, Texas.
