Sara Sue Woodall
Sara Sue Woodall, age 82, of Wichita Falls, Texas died Thursday, December 13, 2001. Services were held Monday December 17, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Seymour. Reverend Jim Bowdin, Pastor of University Methodist Church in Wichita Falls and Reverend Larry Crumpton, Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Seymour officiated. Interment was in the Goree, Texas Cemetery with services under the direction of Archer Funeral Home of Seymour.
Sara Sue Woodall was born June 18, 1919 in Seymour, Texas to Sam Hall and Mabel St. Claire Hall. She lived in Goree, Texas for many years where she worked as a postal clerk until her retirement in 1980. She moved from Goree to Seymour in 1979. Sue and Robert Woodall were married in 1980. He preceded her death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by a son, David Alan Bates in 1973 and a brother, Quince Hall. She was a memebr of the First United Methodist Church and the Seymour Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by: one daughter, Samye Byars of Wichita Falls, Texas; one grandson, Michael David Byars of Wisconsin; two great-grandchildren, Austin David Byars and Tyler John Byars.
If desiring, the family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church in Seymour, Texas or the Methodist Church in Goree, Texas.
Doris Farr Machen
Doris Farr Machen passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2001 in a Houston hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband Lynn Machen who died November 13, 2001. Doris was born January 19, 1934, to Minnie Belle (Weinert) and Claud Herring Farr in Baylor Co. near the Westover community. Doris graduted from Seymour High School in May 1951 and married Lynn Wayne Machen on December 22, 1951.
Doris and Lynn had there children: Debi, Ginger and Don and six grandchildren: Scott, Brian, Jason, Staci, Blake and Gus. Debi, Brian and Scott live in California, Don, Dana, Blake and Gus live in Houston; Ginger in Deer Park and Jason and Staci in the Houston area.
Claud died June 6, 1965 and Mimmie on October 23, 1979, and her brother Bob died in August 1981. She is survived by Joanne, Bob’s sister and by her brothers George and wife Jo and by John Herman and wife Majorie, all of Seymour. She also has several nieces and nephews. Doris’s grandparents were Mary and Buck Farr and Annie and Herman Weinert. The town of Weinert was named for her Grandfather Weinert, who came to Haskell County in 1906 and surveyed the town sites of Weinert and Bomarton.
Services were held Monday, December 17, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the Earthman Funeral Home with Reverend Andy Cherry officiating. Burial was in Forest Park on Westheimer in the crypt with Lynn.
Lynn’s mother, 97 year old, Maude Machen, lives in a rest home in Kathy, Texas near Houston. Doris’s parents are buried in the Westover Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Westover Cemetery Association c/o Bill Alexander, Rt. 2, Box 88, Olney, Texas 76374.
Lura Mae Winstead
Lura Mae Winstead, age 79, of Seymour, Texas died Friday, December 21, 2001 at the Seymour Hospital. Graveside services were held Wednesday, December 26, 2001 at 2 p.m. with A.B. Martin officiating. Burial was at the Gilliland Cemetery, Gilliland, Texas. Services were under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.
Lura Mae Winstead was born January 18, 1922 in Motley County, Texas. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Richard and Robert.
Survivors include: two nieces, Kathy Winstead of North Richland Hills, Texas and Judy Winstead of Dallas, Texas; two nephews, Keith Winstead of Watauga, Texas and Alan Winstead of Dallas, Texas.
Jo Etta Cartwright
Mrs. Jo Etta Cartwright, 65 of Benjamin died early Tuesday morning at Haskell Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday in the Ex-Student Assoc. Bldg. in Benjamin with Hank Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in the Benjamin Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
Her parents were the late Theodore and Ruth Ressel. She graduated from Benjamin High School. She married W.T. Cartwright on May 25, 1952 in Benjamin. They owned and operated Dub’s Grocery for many years. She was also a housewife. She was a member of the Sorosis Club in Benjamin. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Benjamin. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Church of Christ Bldg. Fund, Box 197, Benjamin, TX 79505.
Survivors include: husband, W.T. Cartwright, of the home; two sons, Tracy and his wife, Susan, of Benjamin, Terry and his wife, DeAnne, of Plano; two brothers, Vollie Russel and wife, Margaret, of Clovis, New Mexico, Ronnie Ressel and wife, Juanda, of Dickens; one sister, Katy New and husband Jack, of Liberty Hill; five grandchildren, Phillip, Ashley, Matthew, Lucas, and Andrea; and five nieces.
Pallbearers: Leroy West, Jackie Young, Don Hertel, W.M. Hertel, Wyman Meinzer, Dennis Duke, Charles Jones, Stanton Brown. Honorary pallearers: Bud Conner, Ray Lynn Hardin, Kenneth Hendricks, Bobby Hudson and Kenneth Roberts.
Jessie James Wilson
Jessie James Wilson, age 71, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2001, at the local hospital. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2002, at the Seymour Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Jim Novak and Gene Ed Ryder officiating. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilson was born August 30, 1930, in Gracemont, Oklahoma, to James Frank and Dollie Bell Wilson. He was a machinist for Texas Instruments. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of Korea. He had lived in Seymour for the past ten years.
He is survived by his children, Elaine McDonald and her husband Steve of Grand Prairie, Texas, Wendell Wilson of Coppell, Texas, Nelda Lavarnway of Irving, Texas, Ronnie Wilson of Irving, Texas, Janet Pryor of Ferris, Texas, Janie Stromberg and her husband Mark of Waco, Texas, and Darla Weir and her husband Mike of Houston, Texas; by three sisters, Evelyn Lewis of Seymour, Texas, Rosalee Davis of Irving, Texas, and Mary Ryder of San Antonio, Texas; by two brothers, Alvin Wilson of Mesa, Arizona and Jimmy Wilson of Holbert, Wisconsin; by fifteen grandchildren, Steven McDonald, Nova Barryman, Jason Wilson, Heather, Holly and Craig Lavarnway, Daniel Wilson, Tanessa Gray, Brandon and Max Pryor, Jeff, Crystal, Jessica and Austin Stromberg, and Samantha Weir; by numerous great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
John Alvie Starkey
John Alvie Starkey, age 66, of Lake Kickapoo, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at Wichita Falls, Texas. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 4, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. Deryl Lightfoot, youth minister at Mankins Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Seymour, Texas under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.
John Alvie Starkey was born January 23, 1935 in Seymour, Texas. He attended Seymour High School. He moved to Archer City and worked in oil well servicing until 1988 when he moved to Lake Kickapoo. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include: three daughters, Geneva Wood, Lillian Wheeler, Nita Lewis all of Archer City, Texas; two sons, Delbert Huffman and George Huffman, both of Archer City, Texas; one sister, Peggy Dennis of Vernon, Texas; two brothers, Jerry C. Starkey of Chandler, Texas and Bill Starkey of Colorado Springs, Texas; special friend, Erika Lewallen of Holliday, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at Archer Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m.

Martha Albina Orsak
Martha Albina Orsak, age 87, of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away Friday, January 4, 2002.
Rosary was Sunday, January 6, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. at the Archer Funeral Home in Seymour. Funeral Mass was held Monday, January 7, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiated by Friar Richard Eldredge. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery, Seymour, Texas under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.
Martha Albina Orsak was born December 8, 1914 in Bomarton, Texas. She and John E. Orsak were married November 28, 1933 in Bomarton, Texas. He preceded her death in September of 1992. She worked as a clerk at Flewharty’s Furniture Store and Bickly’s Department Store for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She moved to Wichita in 1997.
She is survived by: two sons, Joe David Orsak and wife, Peggy of Bridgeport, Texas and John Wayne Orsak of Wichita Falls, Texas; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lotus Valeria Martens Murphy
Lotus Valeria Martens Murphy, 82, of Olney, Texas died Saturday, January 5, 2002, in Wichita Falls.
The Wake was held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at Lunn Funeral Home. Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church with Father Raymond Mullan, officiating. Interment was in Restland Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Mrs Murphy was born December 2, 1919, in Goose Creek, Texas to the late Henry and Charlotte (Niedhus) Martens. She and John James Murphy were married October 1, 1942 in Olney, Texas. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1985. She graduated from Olney High Scool in 1937. She studied fashion design through Woodbury College of Los Angeles, California and took nurses training at Wichita Falls General Hospital during WWII. She was a retired private duty and Licensed Vocational Nurse. She was a member of the Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary and a past president of the VFW Auxiliary. She was very active at the Olney Senior Cub Center. She served as an officer of the Young County Democratic Party. She was also an artistic painter. She was a member of the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and was past president of the Altar Society. She moved to Olney in 1924 from Eliasville, Texas.
Survivors include three daughters: Patricia Marie Murphy of Wichita Falls, Texas, Peggy Ann Wilcox of San Antonio, Texas, and Kathleen Diane Whisler and husband, Joe, of Westwood, Kansas; one son: Michael James Murphy and wife, Barbara, of Archer City, Texas; three grandchildren Amanda Moorhouse of Chicago, Illinois and Shane and Jason Murphy of Archer City, Texas; a niece: Laurel Smith of Portland, Oregon; a nephew: Spencer O’Neal of Victorville, California; and her caregiver: Gail Swaim of Olney, Texas.

Sherri Marie Stevens Morgan
Sherri Marie Stevens Morgan, age 36, departed January 1, 2002 at St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Services and Interment were held January 5, 2002 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Sheri Marie Stevens was born in Circleville, Ohio May 6, 1965. She resided in Seymour, Texas for several years in the 1980’s with her mother, brothers and stepfather James Donnell. Sherri is survived by one daugther Ayla, mother Marybeth Morgan, two brothers Shawn and Shannon Stevens. Her husband Jeff Morgan. Sherri was preceded in death by her father Franklin Stevens and both sets of grandparents.
Sherri Marie was a loving mother, daugther, sister and wife. She lived in Florida in the early nineties where she attended North Port Beauty Collage and worked in the area for several years as a hair stylist. Sherri and her daughter Ayla moved to Arizona in 1995 to join her mother in hopes of finding a cure to her illness. She met Jeff Morgan and they married in 1996. Sherri will forever remain with her family and friends, for she is the whisper in the wind, the warmth of the sun, and the light in the stars.
